00:00Hello and welcome to the Edutrainix learning channel. I am Anurag, your expert and in this
00:16video we are going to learn about the essential English grammar in the easiest way possible.
00:21This grammar will not only help you in your PT preparation but also in your day-to-day life.
00:27This video is the first video of the EZPT grammar series and we are going to focus on the parts
00:33of speech. Some people also call it word types. So what are parts of speech? Parts of speech indicates
00:41how the word functions in meaning as well as grammatically within the sentence. There are
00:46eight parts of speech and now begins the fun part. We will quickly look at what they are and then
00:53understand them in the simplest way. The eight parts of speech include noun, pronoun, verb,
01:01adjective, adverb, preposition, conjunction and interjection. Let's begin with the nouns. A
01:08person, place or thing and it can also be an idea like freedom or inspiration. Take this pen for example.
01:17What is it? It's a thing. So nouns. Within nouns there are eight types of nouns. They include singular,
01:23plural, countable nouns like this pen is one pen, uncountable nouns like time, weather, collective
01:30nouns like a team or expert like us and abstract nouns like love, honesty, courage, etc. Now if I say I have a pen,
01:39it is a thing. So what is it here? A pronoun. So pronouns are something that replaces nouns. Now if
01:46I say this pen is beautiful, so what is beautiful here? Beautiful is describing the pen and pen is a
01:52noun. So any word that describes or modify a noun or pronoun are adjectives. So beautiful here is an
02:00adjective. Next if I say I write with this pen. So I am doing something here. What is write here? It's an
02:08action. So write is a verb and verb always describes an action. Things like eating, drinking, walking and so
02:16on. Cool. Now if I say I am writing with this pen slowly. You see the relation between slowly and
02:23writing? Slowly is describing how I am writing and as just understood that writing is a verb,
02:30so what does slowly become? It becomes an adverb because it is describing an adjective or a verb or even
02:36an adverb. So if I say write very slowly. So what is very here? Again it's further describing another
02:43adverb. See how easily how you were able to understand the paths of speech. Out of the remaining,
02:50preposition shows relation between nouns or pronouns and other words. So if I say the pen is on the table,
02:58so on here is our preposition as it shows relation between pen and the table.
03:05Next is conjunction. So they are basically words that we use to join words or phrases together in a
03:11sentence. So if I say I have a pen and I used to write, so an here is a conjunction. Other examples include
03:19but, because, therefore and so on. These are also called as transition words as they show relationships
03:27in a sentence. And finally are the interjections. An interjection is a word or phrase that is
03:33grammatically independent from the words around it and mainly expresses a feeling rather than a meaning.
03:39Words like oh, ouch, wow, hooray are interjections. In the next EZPTE grammar video, we are going to
03:48discuss the verbs and tenses in detail but again in a simple way. So stay tuned and in the meantime,
03:55don't forget to like and subscribe. See you soon.
