00:01Police emergency.
00:03Every night in Britain.
00:05Okay, we'll get police making to you as a grade one emergency.
00:08Officers of the law.
00:10Yeah, that's noted, we're just round the corner.
00:12Clock on.
00:13You'll have to put the stop on tonight.
00:15I lock the door! I lock the door now!
00:17To keep the peace.
00:19That's the light!
00:20And protect us.
00:21Sorry!
00:22I need to get you home safe.
00:23While we sleep.
00:25Police officer, Caesar! Stay with me now!
00:27You're under a referee because I actually uploaded an article.
00:29I love the night shift.
00:31It's my favourite shift.
00:32I'm not having now!
00:33Oi!
00:34Sometimes it can just go mental for no reason.
00:36Hey!
00:37Can you get a sack of cups on here?
00:38Move, move, move!
00:39Hey, hey, hey!
00:40Down on the ground!
00:42We filmed with Gloucestershire Constabulary.
00:45Is Gloucestershire a teaser?
00:47Shall we get your hands down?
00:48Following their 999 response team.
00:51Gloucester Tanger 59.
00:52Gloucester Tanger 59.
00:53Mate! Move on!
00:55Stay where you are!
00:56And specialist units.
00:58Thank God, too.
00:59There's more fighting going on.
01:00I'm winning!
01:01Can we have an ambush, I think?
01:04To show the highs.
01:06Snakes.
01:07Shall we go?
01:08Yeah, let's go.
01:09And the lows.
01:10Got any weapons on you or anything like that?
01:11Weapons?
01:12It's got to be Willy.
01:13I'm so sorry, my darling.
01:15Not darling.
01:16Of the night shift.
01:17The night shift is really where the danger's at.
01:20It's always lurking around the corner somewhere.
01:22You never know when it's going to come and jump out on you.
01:24That escalated quickly, didn't it?
01:25It's the start of another summer night shift for Rhodes Policing Officer Sergeant Gladwin.
01:43I've always lived in Gloucester, never left the county, so I feel it's home and I feel like it's a place I want to protect and I just want to do the best for the area I live.
01:55His first job has taken him out to the Gloucestershire countryside.
02:00I'm trained to the highest level possible within traffic, being an advanced TPAC driver.
02:05That gives me the skills to be able to negotiate most situations you come across.
02:09It's such a varied situation between like city driving and rural driving.
02:14But the rural tranquility is shattered by an oncoming driver.
02:20It's gone for it.
02:26It's probably gone Bradley.
02:29The vehicle just overtaken right, straight towards us.
02:33We had to brake to avoid it.
02:36Now he's just literally clawed it.
02:39Sergeant Gladwin is trying to catch up with the car that almost caused a head-on collision.
02:44So we're just going to find the car.
02:48He's hidden.
02:50But it appears the driver hasn't hidden.
02:53Yeah, he's called in there.
02:56It was incredibly dangerous.
02:58It could have easily been a fatal or a serious injury collision.
03:02It's the sort of thing we're trying to avoid.
03:04He indicates for the driver to pull into a farm track.
03:09You should be.
03:10Yeah, honestly.
03:11How do you carry kids in here?
03:12Sorry.
03:13I was literally in a rush to get back.
03:16A rush where you could be the one who's dead as a result of that.
03:31We could be the one to .
03:33As you should be.
03:34Because that was dangerous, wasn't it?
03:35It was, yeah.
03:36Like I've had to almost do an emergency stop then to avoid you.
03:39Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to...
03:41Yeah, I'm so sorry.
03:42It's a 40 mile an hour limit in that bit there.
03:46And you were probably doing considerably more than that, weren't you?
03:49Well, I...
03:50Yeah.
03:51Because I was trying to get around the first one and then the second one was...
03:54Being in a rush.
03:55Oh.
03:56If you're not going to make it home, look at what it's done to you.
03:59It's so dreadful.
04:00So sorry.
04:01Yeah.
04:02Right, have you got your licence on here?
04:03I haven't.
04:04He realised he'd made a silly error.
04:05He said he was rushing to get home.
04:08It was the wrong thing to do and just apologised and accepted his error.
04:14I've stayed up to you.
04:16Can you do a DM for me, please?
04:18Yes.
04:19Have you got any points at the moment?
04:21I'm sorry.
04:22In turn 255, we've spoken to a lot of people down there.
04:26What, two different lots of speeding, is it?
04:30It's not good, is it?
04:32No idea.
04:33Because this is...
04:35More than just a speeding offence.
04:38This is at least a due care, if not a dangerous drive.
04:42Okay, good.
04:44I've got...
04:46Two points.
04:49Two?
04:50Yes, yes.
04:51Yeah, no, thank you.
04:52You've got two points left at the moment, apparently.
04:55That means the driver has four more points than he remembers and risks losing his licence.
05:01What I'm going to do is I'm going to give you a ticket for driving without due care and recommend you go on a driver improvement course.
05:09No, I've never been offered one in my life because of Covid.
05:12No, well...
05:13Yeah, well, I'm going to recommend that because I think that probably will do you better than anything to try and slow you down.
05:18Yeah.
05:19Because you need to realise the consequences of driving in such a manner, especially if you're carrying kids in the car.
05:25Like, yes, you haven't got any in there now, but what's to say you don't drive like that when you have got your kids with you?
05:33It is a lenient way of dealing with it.
05:35But that was the decision I made because I felt that would have far more of an impact on someone than getting six points or losing a licence for six months.
05:44Sometimes education is far more impactive and the way he was being, he accepted it was an error.
05:50It was what I can only call a moment of madness.
05:53Right, if I can get you to sign in this yellow box, I'm going to print everything off and I'll explain everything to you.
05:58For this driver, it could be his lucky night.
06:01You'll get a letter through the post within the next 14 days.
06:04As long as you comply with that letter, that will be the end of the matter.
06:07Alright?
06:08It should be to recommend the course, hopefully.
06:10If it's not, then it would be six points.
06:12And I'm fine.
06:13Now, hopefully it'll just be the course because I'll recommend the course, but it's not my decision in the end of the day.
06:17Do you understand everything?
06:18Yeah, completely.
06:19There you go.
06:20Slow it down.
06:21Sorry.
06:22Alright, because next time it could be absolutely worse.
06:34Hopefully he's learnt a lesson from this tonight.
06:36I know this road very well, I drive it every day.
06:39So, I know that's not an overtaking place.
06:43Sometimes it's either wrong place, right time, or right place, wrong time.
06:48Who knows?
06:49Do you want any traffic on this channel, please, can make to a stolen vehicle?
06:50That's received.
06:51If you want any traffic on this channel, please, can make to a stolen vehicle.
07:04That's received.
07:05On the outskirts of Cheltenham town centre, PC Merchant is on the hunt for a man suspected of driving a stolen car.
07:09There was a vehicle that failed stop for officers the night before.
07:10The registration was gained by that officer.
07:11The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:12Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:13Let's see where it goes.
07:14Let's see where it goes.
07:15The registration was gained by that officer.
07:16The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:17Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:18Let's see where it goes.
07:19On the outskirts of Cheltenham Town Centre,
07:22PC Merchant is on the hunt for a man suspected of driving a stolen car.
07:27There was a vehicle that failed stop for officers the night before.
07:30The registration was gained by that officer.
07:32The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:36Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:40Let's see where it goes.
07:42Trained in pursuit driving,
07:45PC Merchant is trying to get ahead of the car to assist with a stop.
07:49I didn't have a chance to do any pre-emptive tactics like get a stinger out,
07:54so unfortunately it was, let's see if it'll stop.
07:56Oh, there he is, yeah.
07:59He's coming up.
08:02When that vehicle came down the road,
08:05I knew full well this vehicle was not going to stop.
08:08We've gone through a light and then we've made off.
08:12We've turned on to a sort of windy road.
08:15Not a great road to drive at speed on.
08:19Luckily, no more vehicles were coming.
08:21Heading out of Cheltenham, PC Merchant is thinking ahead.
08:25He knows the roads.
08:27The suspect does not.
08:29As I'm driving along, I'm constantly reassessing the risk level.
08:32We've gone up a road closed, and I know that road's closed,
08:38and I know that they're doing bridge repairs.
08:40Aware of the risk, he pulls back.
08:43But the driver has other ideas.
08:45He then decides to do a U-turn,
08:50and I could see that there were two occupants of that vehicle.
08:54But there are more dangers ahead, as the cars approach a turning.
08:58At the last minute, he thinks he's going to take a left-hand turn.
09:02But we're doing 60 miles an hour.
09:05It's not going to end well.
09:06Outside Cheltenham, PC Merchant is on the tail of a stolen car.
09:25At the last minute, he thinks he's going to take a left-hand turn.
09:30But we're doing 60 miles an hour.
09:33It's not going to end well.
09:33He's just flown through the air, and I'm thinking,
09:41I hope you're wearing a seatbelt, for starters.
09:45Fearing the worst, PC Merchant is surprised
09:48to see the passenger step out of the car, unharmed.
09:52Lay on the floor! Lay on the floor!
09:55It was clear at that stage, someone had run from the driver's seat
09:58because the door was open.
09:59Dog handlers arrived, and got a really strong sense.
10:10Help me lift this fence up. He's gone in there.
10:12No, under. Lift the fence up.
10:15On foot, PC Merchant takes up the chase alongside PC Council.
10:19Under! Under! Under!
10:21Good girl! Hold the line, hold the line.
10:24And police dog, Harren.
10:27Good afternoon, I need the drone up here.
10:31Also joining the search is another specialist unit,
10:34launching a drone with a heat-seeking camera.
10:36Officer with a drone's got a person in the field towards Cheltenham.
10:42It's also difficult to work out which field it is at the moment.
10:47Stand by.
10:48I can lift over behind her legs.
10:51We're going through gates, we're going through fields.
10:54Good girl.
10:56And between the dog and the drone,
10:58they've located a figure in a field, walking around.
11:02Look, look, please. Can you see Danvers?
11:05No response to that.
11:07If you can see the drone, they're going to go directly over the person now.
11:15It's up there.
11:16Go on.
11:17Half corner of that field, the dog's tracking.
11:19You've got an airman in the direction that you'll go to.
11:26Where is it?
11:28Where's the drone?
11:30It's got energy metres.
11:32On the right hand side to where the dog is.
11:34He's led down, arms out to the side.
11:36He's parking the game's up.
11:38Yeah, keep going, keep going, keep going.
11:42Come on, now!
11:43Police officer of the dog, you walk back through!
11:46You crawl back through!
11:48You walk back through there!
11:54Come through the head!
11:56Where are my torches?
11:59Come steady, but don't do anything silly.
12:01I'm not, boss.
12:02There's a very good result for us.
12:06A very good result for us, no one's injured, we've got a stolen vehicle back and we've
12:24also got someone detained who shouldn't be on our roads.
12:54He just wants to get away. Whether it's a game for him, I don't know. Just stop, speak to officers,
13:04take it on the chin, done.
13:19Crewed together on the midnight shift are PC Foxall and Special Constable Weber.
13:24I come in on a couple of weekends a month and basically just help where I can and go out
13:33with regular officers and do exactly the same thing.
13:35Let's see what happens tonight with tonight's forming. It's a bit ominous tonight. It's been
13:42absolutely mental. It was okay last night. It wasn't too bad. I mean...
13:47The night is still young.
13:52Adam definitely stayed until the end now.
13:56The police emergency. There's a fire.
14:04Three fires.
14:06So we've just gone into Johnworth where we've had a report of three vehicles on fire.
14:13It's a bit strange because we've had quite a few reports in the exact same area over the
14:18last couple of days of vehicles being done over with their tyres getting slashed and things
14:22being broken. So it could be the case, it could be the same suspect and they've increased their
14:28and now they've gone to setting a light to things which is a massive concern.
14:33It's a full moon tonight so that could explain it as well.
14:36Yeah.
14:37There's fire.
14:40That's a proper job isn't it?
14:53Well there were three cars on fire. Fire were in attendance and battling the blazes as they
15:00were. It's one of the first instances where I get to a job and I think this is serious.
15:04You know somebody could have been dead at the end of this.
15:08Got suspected arson?
15:10Absolutely, yeah.
15:11Another thing is that the fuel tank and one of the car is completely off so they're going
15:16to show up with the fuel tank so when we came in they were well alive.
15:19The initial response from the fire and rescue team, one of their witnesses said they could
15:24see a petrol cam on one of the vehicles that were ablaze was open so it's quite clear that
15:29someone has committed arson here.
15:31Okay, perfect.
15:32It looks like there's two cars here and one down.
15:34It's still the same property as well so it looks like it's targeted.
15:38Oh, okay.
15:39Yeah, okay.
15:40Have you been able to identify any accelerants or anything like that?
15:43I haven't.
15:44We've only been in five minutes.
15:45Okay, oh that's fine then.
15:47We're quite used to going out to car fires but obviously it's a bit of an anomaly having
15:54two incidents very close together.
15:56PC Foxall reports back to base.
15:59So we've got like three cars completely burnt out and damaged to the third party's vehicle
16:06and potentially another vehicle so we've got quite a few vehicles.
16:13The fire in the car at the front may have spread to a second car.
16:20There is no explanation as to why another car at the back of the house had been set alight.
16:26At the moment I'm just trying to liaise between fire and the victims.
16:32It's vital the police find as many clues as possible to try and identify who's done this.
16:38But with the cars being so badly damaged, it's not going to be easy.
16:44Can I just have a quick word here, Sack?
16:46Although it's the middle of the night, many residents have been woken up.
16:50Have you seen anything or heard anything?
16:53Uh, I had a sleep.
16:55Heard the bangs.
16:58Fireworks.
17:00And you thought it was fireworks, did you say?
17:02Yeah.
17:03The cars on the front were very close to a hedge which had actually burnt
17:09and obviously had a big garden in the houses
17:11so the first thing they thought was,
17:13is this going to set fire to my house?
17:15And then what happened after that?
17:17I got up to have a look because I could see the lights in my bedroom window
17:22I could see that that car was on fire.
17:26Have you seen anything else over the last couple of days?
17:28Anything suspicious or anything?
17:29Yeah.
17:30You've got to go out Friday morning and get back to my truck.
17:33Yeah.
17:34And, um, I've got food stacked cars out there.
17:38They've been evangelised.
17:39Would you be up for making a statement?
17:41Yeah.
17:42Yeah?
17:47Obviously Fire Brigade are doing their thing.
17:49Um, me and my colleague are just trying to get statements from everyone,
17:53figure out what's happened,
17:55seeing if anyone's found anything and also speaking to neighbours,
17:58see if anyone has seen anything.
18:00The one round the back, you know, could have set houses, garages on fire
18:04and I think people don't understand the danger that this can really cause.
18:08And the danger is not just from the fire itself.
18:12Yeah, I'm now into the sort of, uh, the warmer weather in the summer.
18:17People probably have a lot of windows open.
18:19So, um, yeah, you do get an awful lot of toxic gases coming off of, um, fires
18:24due to all the sort of, uh, manmade materials that they're made of these days.
18:28Thankfully, you know, if we're in the height of summer,
18:33that grass would have quite easily run up in flames and burnt the whole property
18:36and could have killed someone very easily.
18:38Two of the cars belong to the same household.
18:42One that the police had been called to two nights before
18:46when a young female reported problems with a man hanging around
18:50and harassing her.
18:52And she said, like, he's exhibited some sort of odd behaviours towards her,
18:56but she just wanted him to be told to clear off
18:58and now tonight all the cars to the property have been vandalised.
19:02Yep, there he is. Cheers, Billy. Bye.
19:05He needs to stay well away from me.
19:08He got told.
19:09The young woman tells the police she's received a number of voicemail messages
19:13which she claims are from the man.
19:15Right, so what's he been messaging you?
19:19Uh, just finding out now.
19:21Just trying to find out this other voicemail quickly.
19:23When was the last message you had off him?
19:25The message is seen to suggest
19:29that the man may have been involved in some way with the fires.
19:33Why are we, Hotel 3-5?
19:36Two, Miss one, did not bring me to a quad.
19:40Have we got any more units available to assist with this job?
19:43All the evidence and statements collected
19:47will be passed on to the Criminal Investigation Department.
19:51They will then work out if there's a strong enough case to press charges.
19:56At the moment, there's only two of us.
19:59We need to close the road off and create a scene.
20:01Obviously, as we see I do, that's their advice.
20:04And we've also got some evidence to lead us to a suspect as well.
20:07These poor, poor victims, you know, who probably work and put their livelihoods into getting
20:24a nice car only for it to be burnt.
20:45QR2, Foxtrot, Hotel 2-5.
20:47Yes, yes, go ahead.
20:49The male you're with, has he got any obvious injuries?
20:51Again, lots of calls about an R2-3.
20:54Reports are coming in of a road traffic accident in a rural area.
20:58Just over five minutes from the scene is PC Merchant.
21:04Reports that someone's been thrown from the vehicle,
21:07and the driver of the other vehicle has run away.
21:11If you're thrown from a vehicle, it's probably quite a high impact.
21:16Were they wearing a seatbelt?
21:17Were they not wearing a seatbelt?
21:19So we're on route to an RTC.
21:33Reports that someone's been thrown from the vehicle,
21:35and the driver of the other vehicle has run away.
21:40PC Merchant is heading to a road traffic accident in a rural area.
21:46I mean, if you're thrown from a vehicle,
21:50it's probably quite a high impact.
21:53Were they wearing a seatbelt?
21:54Were they not wearing a seatbelt?
21:56Initially, the reports came in that there could be someone seriously injured.
22:00So, of course, you try and get there as quickly as possible
22:03to try and save their life if needed.
22:05So we're going to go, first of all,
22:08make sure the person's okay that's been thrown from the vehicle,
22:10and then look for the person who decided that he doesn't want to hang around.
22:15PC Merchant isn't the only officer responding to the call.
22:21It's important to get as many units there as possible,
22:23because then it means that one person can treat the casualty,
22:29and the others can go looking for the person who's run away
22:33to find out what they're hiding.
22:36Oscar Tango 6-1, State 6.
22:41As he arrives, a family member who's turned up to help
22:45is the first to greet him.
22:47Hey, are you okay?
22:48Who's the driver of this one?
22:54Who's the driver that's not longer around?
22:56So, basically, this driver's not that bad.
22:59There's another driver over there.
23:00Yeah?
23:01The two of them that need some attention is right here.
23:05In where? In here?
23:06They probably need some, like,
23:08they've got the biggest impact.
23:10Oh, okay.
23:11Especially the one in the front,
23:13but she refuses to let anybody do it.
23:15Yeah, yeah.
23:16Okay.
23:19While PC Merchant tries to find out the extent
23:22of the female's injuries,
23:24the driver of the car, hit by the van,
23:26is giving his version of events
23:28to Rhodes Policing Officer Sergeant Gladwin.
23:31Just driving down here,
23:33and he doesn't stop.
23:34He's just come straight across.
23:36It could have been any car along here.
23:41Travelling with the driver were his wife
23:43and the two women have been injured.
23:47One of the ladies in the car
23:49is a Ukrainian lady
23:51whose daughter is staying with us
23:53as part of the homes for Ukraine.
23:55So, she's going to school in Cheltenham
23:57and she comes over about every
24:00three to six months.
24:01So, you know, I feel sorry for her,
24:04really, anything else.
24:05So, my wife has been doing a great job
24:07with all these Ukrainians
24:09and then we get hit like this.
24:13I mean, and then,
24:14well, I've obviously pulled a fast one on me,
24:16but what could you do?
24:19There's only so much you can do on the brakes.
24:21Yeah.
24:22And luckily, no one's still seen anything.
24:24So, this is the vehicle
24:26that's been hit by the van
24:28and as you'll see from the near side,
24:30there is quite a lot of damage to it.
24:32The damage is mostly to the rear of the car
24:35and it's such a high impact
24:37that it's actually taken the wheel off the rear.
24:40A smaller vehicle,
24:43the car would possibly roll multiple times
24:46and you're looking at a lot,
24:48you're looking at different injuries
24:50from what we've got.
24:52But luckily, it's well built.
24:53It's protected the occupants in the vehicle,
24:54which is what the car is designed to do.
24:57Luckily, the occupants haven't been thrown
25:00from the vehicle is what was first reported
25:02and it looks like minor injury.
25:04However, they are injured.
25:05One of the women has complained of neck pain
25:08and is now being seen by paramedics
25:11on the ambulance that's arrived.
25:13So, what impact does this have on you now?
25:15I don't know.
25:17I guess you need your car for going around?
25:21Well, I do.
25:22I've got the golf clubs in the back.
25:23That's a major problem, isn't it?
25:24I'm sure they'll be damaged, won't they?
25:30Although the driver of the van has disappeared,
25:33he did leave his name and phone number.
25:36So, what's right?
25:37Give me a ring.
25:38I'm just going to do it now,
25:39but let's have a look where they're coming back to.
25:41But when they call the van driver,
25:43there's no response.
25:45He gave his name to the other person,
25:48which does actually match the vehicle in question.
25:51He's also given a phone number.
25:52Now, that didn't come back to anything when we tried to call it.
25:54Whether he's given a false phone number
25:56or whether it's just been taken down wrong,
25:57I'm open to judge at that moment.
25:59It just raises our suspicions a little bit
26:01when someone decides to leave the scene
26:03before we get there.
26:04And it could be an innocent...
26:06It could genuinely have been an innocent thing
26:09that he thought, I've exchanged my details.
26:10I'll come and sort my van tomorrow.
26:14Even though the police haven't got the driver of the van,
26:17they will check everyone involved as a matter of routine.
26:20At any RTC, we'll do a roadside drink test.
26:24The insurance companies will ask for it anyway,
26:26so we'll do that.
26:27Let's do a big breath test.
26:29The breath test of the driver whose car was hit is negative.
26:38But even with police searching the area,
26:53there is still no sign of the van driver.
26:57So the dog handler's just gone to see if he can locate them.
27:00We've also got another unit just doing an area search.
27:03They're relatively local,
27:06but it would take them a long time to get home.
27:08So hopefully we'll be able to intercept them
27:10and find out why they've decided to leave the scene
27:13with their van just left on the side of the road badly damaged.
27:16You'd like to think that people's morals,
27:18they'd stay around and make sure everyone's okay before walking away.
27:21I'm just going to get recovery for the vehicles.
27:26At the junction where the crash happened,
27:29there are clear signs to slow drivers down.
27:32You've got warning signs up there saying there's a junction ahead
27:35and also change of speed limit to 50.
27:38This van for some reason hasn't stopped
27:41and has come straight out of the junction.
27:43So as you can see,
27:45it's unlit round here as well.
27:48So if you don't know the area,
27:49you've got to pay attention to the street signs.
27:52We won't get this in the city.
27:54You wouldn't see the stars.
27:55Look at that moon, it's lighting up the whole hill.
27:59Being where we are, literally in the middle of nowhere,
28:02we're not going to get a lot of evidential opportunities
28:05from any dash cam or any C3.
28:08So that makes it a little bit more challenging.
28:29Does he want me to take his golf clubs and off?
28:36Probably.
28:37I follow the most important, to be fair.
28:40The club's alright.
28:41The things you do for your parents.
28:43Stay.
28:57Stay.
28:58P.C. Smith has always teamed up with the same crewmate.
29:03Arnie.
29:05Yeah, he's got to be up there with the top crewmates that I've had.
29:13Being a dog handler, going into work, be your best mate.
29:17You know, you can patrol the county.
29:20You get called to some really, really good incidents.
29:23Helping people and trying to make a difference as well.
29:26Their first job tonight is about a car in Gloucester, eight miles away.
29:44So our intention is to get that vehicle stopped.
29:48Oscar down to six weeks.
29:50Can I put OBS out for a vehicle?
29:52That's AMPR in Gloucester, please.
29:56There's intel on that vehicle regarding drug drive.
29:59And I don't think it's got any tax either.
30:02I don't know if anyone's available in Gloucester.
30:05Throughout that evening, the vehicle had been driving around Gloucester.
30:10And the vehicle wasn't taxed.
30:12And the intelligence was that the driver was driving the vehicle
30:17under the influence of drugs.
30:20The traffic sergeant is behind that car.
30:24It has activated our AMPR cameras.
30:27And he's going to be putting a stop in.
30:32Sergeant Gladwin from the Roots policing unit was also on duty.
30:36And the information was shared with him.
30:39Let the lights now. He's going to go left of the light now.
30:43Within minutes, the car is pulled over.
30:46The vehicle's been stopped.
30:48It's going to be seized for no tax.
30:53As PC Smith called it in, he's going to give Sergeant Gladwin backup.
31:01Just on a drug swipe.
31:02I'm waiting for the results for now to see what's come back from that.
31:04But the vehicle has shown up as being untaxed since December last year.
31:09While they wait for the results of the drugs test, they also need to confirm who the driver is.
31:19Let's have a look.
31:21As he doesn't have his license on him, the police are accessing the photo on file at the DVLA.
31:26Er, no, it doesn't, does it?
31:27Er, no, it doesn't, does it?
31:29I've got a bigger face on him than I was on here.
31:33Unless you've lost a lot of weight recently, I don't believe that.
31:35Do you have your driving license on you? That would make it a lot easier.
31:37How long is that picture for me?
31:38I don't know.
31:39Exactly. So what are you talking about?
31:40So that's why I want...
31:41It could well be.
31:42You don't know, so then do your fucking...
31:44Yeah, he reacted in sort of such a way which was more abuse towards the police.
31:51What's your bank number?
31:52I've just said, 2700.
31:53What's your bank number?
31:54200.
31:55200.
31:56Do you have any ID that's got your photograph on you?
31:58So, is that me or no?
32:00Well, no, we need to prove it is you, because at the moment you could be anybody.
32:05Take your fingerprint from here.
32:07Now to confirm your identity.
32:08Do you agree to comply with that?
32:09It's a problem, man.
32:11So we tried to identify him, and yeah, he wasn't sort of playing ball.
32:16He gave a name, but we wanted to just, you know, confirm who he was.
32:22Yeah, because you can't know who you are.
32:24So you're committing an offence at the moment, I believe, by...
32:26Why are you telling the truth to you, though?
32:28By giving me the wrong details, I believe.
32:30So at the moment you're at risk of getting arrested.
32:32So, I've got my ID.
32:33Come on up.
32:34You're stalling it, you're stalling it.
32:35It feels like you're...
32:36I'm not stalling it.
32:37You are.
32:38I'm telling the truth for it.
32:39That's fine if you're telling the truth, that's fine.
32:41You get it?
32:42Yeah, but if you show me a picture...
32:43You get what I'm saying?
32:44...then I can confirm that, can't I?
32:45This could have been done about two minutes ago.
32:48I still need something to prove, like a debit card or something with your name on.
32:52Can you say debit card?
32:53Yeah?
32:54Yeah.
32:55I still don't believe in that.
32:56No.
32:57Because that picture just doesn't look like you.
33:00Yeah.
33:01His identification is the least of his worries now.
33:05The result of the drug test has come through.
33:08What is it positive for?
33:09Cannabis.
33:10Cannabis.
33:11I'm going to do a section 23 search, JJ.
33:22As the driver is suspected of drug driving, they are going to search both him and his vehicle.
33:28You ain't going to find shit.
33:29The vehicle's been stopped and seized on behalf of DVLA.
33:39And then the driver has been arrested for drug drive.
33:46You're cocky.
33:47Cheeky.
33:48Whilst PC Smith continues searching the car, it's not just the driver's ID that's raising
33:56questions.
33:57There's a balaclava there as well.
33:59Have you got anything on you to be aware of?
34:00You lot.
34:01Like, you individuals.
34:02You, you.
34:03Stop talking for a minute.
34:04It's hard, right?
34:05You, you.
34:06Just stop talking.
34:07Have you got anything on you that needs to be aware of?
34:10I'm not talking about you, actually.
34:11But I'm serious.
34:12You lot.
34:13Okay.
34:14So you're suing the PC's.
34:15You got no road tax and you've been arrested for drug abuse.
34:17You, you.
34:18You, you.
34:19You, you.
34:20You, you.
34:21You, you.
34:22You, you.
34:23You, you.
34:24You, you.
34:25You, you.
34:26You, you.
34:27Because you got no road tax and you've been arrested for drug driving.
34:30Watch my balls.
34:32He doesn't like us.
34:34There's a bit of bravado, I think.
34:36He's probably been stopped a few times, which he's suggesting.
34:40And obviously that's our fault, not his fault.
34:42He forgets he's the one who's driving around with no tax.
34:45And he's the one who's drug driving right now.
34:50He's gone off to cells.
34:52The blood's been sent off to a laboratory.
34:55And from there, we'll be able to see how much, you know, what's in his system.
34:59Watch your head as you get in, okay?
35:00I'll support you.
35:01There we go.
35:02All right.
35:03We'll see you down there.
35:05We took his car off him on behalf of DVLA, and DVLA sent him a nice bill.
35:26It's freezing, isn't it?
35:27What?
35:28Freezing, mate?
35:29It's a busy night in Cheltenham town centre, and PC's Williamson and Gorton are on patrol.
35:35When you born on the sun.
35:36You know that beautiful weather that we have in Birmingham all the time.
35:40I'll have you know, twenty degrees in my back garden today.
35:41It's not exactly God's country, though.
35:42Yeah, it was a lot.
35:43Which is where?
35:44Liverpool, Mersey Track.
35:45God's country.

37:20if she's okay get her out of the car I've quick chat with you PC Williamson wants to make sure the
37:27woman is safe so needs to talk to her it's not about the woman potentially driving that PC Williamson wants
37:47a word and to keep the conversation private PC Gorton make sure the man stays put what's your name
37:56sir no fella just stay in the car for me mate come with me just for a second well she was a little bit
38:00obstructive she didn't really want to talk to me she was clearly intoxicated I could smell the alcohol
38:04someone's just flagged me down to say that is that your fella yeah yeah right okay someone was a
38:11little bit worried about you because they were saying that he was and just while PC Williamson talks to
38:19the girlfriend PC Gorton tries to find out from the man his side of the story does anything happen that
38:27you want to tell me about what's going on okay was there any reason why my colleagues gone off to talk to
38:32your girlfriend I don't know what happened all right he's fine you sure absolutely fine so has
38:40there been an argument that that's it there has been right okay so you guys are just having a shot
38:44about it in the car right okay it happens every week right but he's never hurt you nothing
38:49like that so you just get frustrated my colleagues have to come over here
38:58so there you go you've had an argument okay so something's happened so we're duty bound to
39:04investigate I understand you're angry I understand you're frustrated I understand you you're having a
39:17debate with your partner don't take it out on me he just became belligerent and argumentative with me

39:56level of abuse and accept it as though it's a part of our everyday job I disagree I'm a member
40:02of the public at the end of the day all right thank you I accept your apology your apology is

40:23well can you go away then no not until I've established my colleague is okay and that
40:27female is safe I appreciate your girlfriend but you know unfortunately most murders are
40:32committed by people who know each other including people in relationships all right yeah take your
40:40girlfriend's advice get back in the car and stop it standard verbals so they've had an argument
40:58they've come to sit in the car and talk about it rather than argue in public um she's said he's never
41:03hurt me anything like that no physical injuries to her um she said we're quite happy to leave them
41:09together yeah at the moment yeah okay cool what does he say to you oh apparently I'm a sausage
41:15apparently I should go out and catch criminals I mean he ain't wrong about the sausage business but
41:22like what's that I don't do anything it just turns out that it was a barney and they've gone somewhere
41:30private to have that barney but yeah when I went up to the window she was literally she weren't sat
41:36like this she was sat sideways on yeah I mean you could see the keys weren't needed yeah you know so
41:40I weren't going to be horrible and have her for in charge the fact that you know we are professionally
41:45nosy that that's that's our point that's that's our purpose we don't get the answers if we don't ask
41:50the questions I'd rather her be safe and I don't need to do anything then you know she's in danger
41:55and I just ignored it not far away at one of the clubs in Cheltenham officers are dealing with the
42:08aftermath of a fight one man has been kicking off to door staff so the police have been
42:20called and are putting him in the van in the hope that he'll simmer down
42:25I really enjoy calming suspects down I'll talk in a really nice tone even if they're shouting at me
42:49why you fucking make chill out I don't like to shout I don't like to raise my voice I don't like
42:54my heart rate getting over a certain number um so I'll very much just calmly communicate with them
43:00until they're at the same level as me all right mate you all right now just calm down for a second
43:05all right we'll just chill out of course sometimes it doesn't go go that well this time PC Cahill's
43:13dulcet tones haven't worked so the police are left with no alternative the man is off to custody
43:22and we'll be staying there till he sobers out but he's not the only person out tonight that's getting
43:30carried away by the police she said I'm not leaving until I pinch it I said you're not pinching it
43:47I stepped into the van and she did it my mate was like you in a knicker for that I was like no
