00:01Police emergency.
00:03Every night in Britain.
00:05Okay, we'll get police making to you as a grade one emergency.
00:08Officers of the law.
00:10Yeah, that's noted, we're just round the corner.
00:12Clock on.
00:13You'll have to put the stop on tonight.
00:15I lock the door! I lock the door now!
00:17To keep the peace.
00:19That's the light!
00:20And protect us.
00:21Sorry!
00:22I need to get you home safe.
00:23While we sleep.
00:25Police officer, Caesar! Stay with me now!
00:27You're under a referee because I actually uploaded an article.
00:29I love the night shift.
00:31It's my favourite shift.
00:32I'm not having now!
00:33Oi!
00:34Sometimes it can just go mental for no reason.
00:36Hey!
00:37Can you get a sack of cups on here?
00:38Move, move, move!
00:39Hey, hey, hey!
00:40Down on the ground!
00:42We filmed with Gloucestershire Constabulary.
00:45Is Gloucestershire a teaser?
00:47Shall we get your hands down?
00:48Following their 999 response team.
00:51Gloucester Tanger 59.
00:52Gloucester Tanger 59.
00:53Mate! Move on!
00:55Stay where you are!
00:56And specialist units.
00:58Thank God, too.
00:59There's more fighting going on.
01:00I'm winning!
01:01Can we have an ambush, I think?
01:04To show the highs.
01:06Snakes.
01:07Shall we go?
01:08Yeah, let's go.
01:09And the lows.
01:10Got any weapons on you or anything like that?
01:11Weapons?
01:12It's got to be Willy.
01:13I'm so sorry, my darling.
01:15Not darling.
01:16Of the night shift.
01:17The night shift is really where the danger's at.
01:20It's always lurking around the corner somewhere.
01:22You never know when it's going to come and jump out on you.
01:24That escalated quickly, didn't it?
01:25It's the start of another summer night shift for Rhodes Policing Officer Sergeant Gladwin.
01:43I've always lived in Gloucester, never left the county, so I feel it's home and I feel like it's a place I want to protect and I just want to do the best for the area I live.
01:55His first job has taken him out to the Gloucestershire countryside.
02:00I'm trained to the highest level possible within traffic, being an advanced TPAC driver.
02:05That gives me the skills to be able to negotiate most situations you come across.
02:09It's such a varied situation between like city driving and rural driving.
02:14But the rural tranquility is shattered by an oncoming driver.
02:20It's gone for it.
02:26It's probably gone Bradley.
02:29The vehicle just overtaken right, straight towards us.
02:33We had to brake to avoid it.
02:36Now he's just literally clawed it.
02:39Sergeant Gladwin is trying to catch up with the car that almost caused a head-on collision.
02:44So we're just going to find the car.
02:48He's hidden.
02:50But it appears the driver hasn't hidden.
02:53Yeah, he's called in there.
02:56It was incredibly dangerous.
02:58It could have easily been a fatal or a serious injury collision.
03:02It's the sort of thing we're trying to avoid.
03:04He indicates for the driver to pull into a farm track.
03:09You should be.
03:10Yeah, honestly.
03:11How do you carry kids in here?
03:12Sorry.
03:13I was literally in a rush to get back.
03:16A rush where you could be the one who's dead as a result of that.
03:31We could be the one to .
03:33As you should be.
03:34Because that was dangerous, wasn't it?
03:35It was, yeah.
03:36Like I've had to almost do an emergency stop then to avoid you.
03:39Yeah, I wasn't sure whether to...
03:41Yeah, I'm so sorry.
03:42It's a 40 mile an hour limit in that bit there.
03:46And you were probably doing considerably more than that, weren't you?
03:49Well, I...
03:50Yeah.
03:51Because I was trying to get around the first one and then the second one was...
03:54Being in a rush.
03:55Oh.
03:56If you're not going to make it home, look at what it's done to you.
03:59It's so dreadful.
04:00So sorry.
04:01Yeah.
04:02Right, have you got your licence on here?
04:03I haven't.
04:04He realised he'd made a silly error.
04:05He said he was rushing to get home.
04:08It was the wrong thing to do and just apologised and accepted his error.
04:14I've stayed up to you.
04:16Can you do a DM for me, please?
04:18Yes.
04:19Have you got any points at the moment?
04:21I'm sorry.
04:22In turn 255, we've spoken to a lot of people down there.
04:26What, two different lots of speeding, is it?
04:30It's not good, is it?
04:32No idea.
04:33Because this is...
04:35More than just a speeding offence.
04:38This is at least a due care, if not a dangerous drive.
04:42Okay, good.
04:44I've got...
04:46Two points.
04:49Two?
04:50Yes, yes.
04:51Yeah, no, thank you.
04:52You've got two points left at the moment, apparently.
04:55That means the driver has four more points than he remembers and risks losing his licence.
05:01What I'm going to do is I'm going to give you a ticket for driving without due care and recommend you go on a driver improvement course.
05:09No, I've never been offered one in my life because of Covid.
05:12No, well...
05:13Yeah, well, I'm going to recommend that because I think that probably will do you better than anything to try and slow you down.
05:18Yeah.
05:19Because you need to realise the consequences of driving in such a manner, especially if you're carrying kids in the car.
05:25Like, yes, you haven't got any in there now, but what's to say you don't drive like that when you have got your kids with you?
05:33It is a lenient way of dealing with it.
05:35But that was the decision I made because I felt that would have far more of an impact on someone than getting six points or losing a licence for six months.
05:44Sometimes education is far more impactive and the way he was being, he accepted it was an error.
05:50It was what I can only call a moment of madness.
05:53Right, if I can get you to sign in this yellow box, I'm going to print everything off and I'll explain everything to you.
05:58For this driver, it could be his lucky night.
06:01You'll get a letter through the post within the next 14 days.
06:04As long as you comply with that letter, that will be the end of the matter.
06:07Alright?
06:08It should be to recommend the course, hopefully.
06:10If it's not, then it would be six points.
06:12And I'm fine.
06:13Now, hopefully it'll just be the course because I'll recommend the course, but it's not my decision in the end of the day.
06:17Do you understand everything?
06:18Yeah, completely.
06:19There you go.
06:20Slow it down.
06:21Sorry.
06:22Alright, because next time it could be absolutely worse.
06:34Hopefully he's learnt a lesson from this tonight.
06:36I know this road very well, I drive it every day.
06:39So, I know that's not an overtaking place.
06:43Sometimes it's either wrong place, right time, or right place, wrong time.
06:48Who knows?
06:49Do you want any traffic on this channel, please, can make to a stolen vehicle?
06:50That's received.
06:51If you want any traffic on this channel, please, can make to a stolen vehicle.
07:04That's received.
07:05On the outskirts of Cheltenham town centre, PC Merchant is on the hunt for a man suspected of driving a stolen car.
07:09There was a vehicle that failed stop for officers the night before.
07:10The registration was gained by that officer.
07:11The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:12Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:13Let's see where it goes.
07:14Let's see where it goes.
07:15Let's see where it goes.
07:16The registration was gained by that officer.
07:17The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:18Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:20Let's see where it goes.
07:21Let's see where it goes.
07:22Trained in pursuit driving, PC Merchant is trying to get ahead of the car to assist with
07:23the stop.
07:24It didn't have Cheltenham.
07:25It didn't have Cheltenham.
07:26It didn't have Cheltenham.
07:27There was a vehicle that failed stop for officers the night before.
07:30The registration was gained by that officer.
07:33The vehicle has been seen coming into Cheltenham.
07:36Other units are following the car at a distance.
07:40Let's see where it goes.
07:43Trained in pursuit driving, PC Merchant is trying to get ahead of the car to assist with
07:48the stop.
07:49It didn't have a chance to do any pre-emptive tactics like get a stinger out.
07:54So unfortunately it was, let's see if it'll stop.
07:56Oh, there he is.
07:58Yeah.
07:59He's coming up.
08:02When that vehicle came down the road, I knew full well this vehicle was not going to
08:07stop.
08:08We've gone through a light and then we've made off.
08:12We've turned onto a sort of windy road.
08:15Not a great road to drive at speed on.
08:18Luckily no more vehicles were coming.
08:21Heading out of Cheltenham, PC Merchant is thinking ahead.
08:25He knows the roads.
08:27The suspect does not.
08:29As I'm driving along, I'm constantly reassessing the risk level.
08:33We've gone up a road closed.
08:36And I know that road's closed.
08:37And I know that they're doing bridge repairs.
08:40Aware of the risk, he pulls back.
08:43But the driver has other ideas.
08:46He then decides to do a U-turn.
08:50And I could see that there were two occupants of that vehicle.
08:53But there are more dangers ahead as the cars approach a turning.
08:57The last minute, he thinks he's going to take a left-hand turn.
09:02But we're doing 60 miles an hour.
09:04It's not going to end well.
09:06The last minute, he thinks he's going to take a left-hand turn.
09:19But we're doing 60 miles an hour.
09:21It's not going to end well.
09:22He's just flown through the air and I'm thinking,
09:27I hope you're wearing a seatbelt, for starters.
09:30Fearing the worst, PC Merchant is surprised to see the passengers
09:33step out of the car, unharmed and unharmed.
09:35Here he's going to go down a road as well.
09:36It's not going to end well.
09:39But if you've got something close to the car,
09:41it might be never seen either.
09:44It might be some point of a social insurance you can get.
09:47The last minute, he thinks he's going to take a left-hand turn.
09:49But we're doing 60 miles an hour.
09:50unharmed lay on the floor lay on the floor it was clear at that stage someone had run from the
09:57driver's seat because the door was open dog handlers arrived and got a really strong sense
10:09help me lift this fence up he's gone in there no under lift the fence up on foot pc merchant
10:17takes up the chase alongside pc council under under under good girl hold the line hold the line and police
10:24dog harren also joining the search is another specialist unit launching a drone with a heat
10:35seeking camera
10:51we're going through gates we're going through fields
10:56and between the dog and the drone they've located a figure in a field walking around
11:05uh no response to that if you can see the drone they're going to go directly over the uh
11:12posting now
11:14it's up there go on
11:16where's the drone
11:30he's got energy meters uh on the right hand side to where the dog is
11:34he's led down arms out to the side keep piping the games up
11:38yeah uh keep going keep going keep going

12:25someone detained who shouldn't be on our roads
12:39good girl
12:41good girl
12:43good girl
12:45good girl
12:47good girl
12:49good girl
12:51good girl
12:53good girl
12:57he just wants to get away whether it's a game for him i don't know just stop speak to officers
13:04take it on the chin done
13:12yeah he's been sitting in my seat
13:17crewed together on the midnight shift are pc foxhall and special constable weber
13:25but i come in on a couple of weekends a month
13:30and basically just help where i can and go out with regular officers and do exactly the same thing
13:35we'll see what happens tonight with tonight's forming
13:39yeah it's a bit ominous tonight
13:41it's been absolutely mental it was okay last night it wasn't too bad i mean
13:46i don't know what i've got there
13:48i don't know if i have to stay until he has now
14:00police emergency
14:03there's a fire
14:05three fires
14:06so we just go into Johnworth where we've had a report of three vehicles on fire and it's a bit
14:14strange as we've had quite a few reports in the exact same area over the last couple of days of
14:19vehicles being done over with their tires getting slashed and things being broken so it could be
14:25the case it could be the same suspect and they've increased in their behavior and now they've gone
14:29to setting a light to things which is a massive concern it's a full moon tonight so that could
14:35explain it as well there's fire all right you guys
14:47brother three five six six that's a proper job in it but there were three cars on fire fire in attendance
14:58and bustling the blazes as they were it's one of the first instances where I get to a job I think
15:04this is serious you know somebody somebody could have been dead at the end of this
15:08I've got suspected arson absolutely yeah another thing is that um the fuel tank and
15:14one of the cars are really off so they're going to show up with the fuel tank so when we came in
15:18it was well alive
15:20initial response from the fire rescue team uh one of the witnesses said they could see a petrol cam on
15:26one of the vehicles that were ablaze was open so it's quite clear that someone has committed arson
15:31here okay perfect it looks like there's two cars here one it's it's all the same property as well so it
15:37looks like it's targeted yeah okay have you been able to identify any accelerants or anything like that
15:43i haven't but we've only been in five minutes okay oh that's fine then
15:48we're quite used to going out to to car fires but obviously it's a bit of an anomaly having um two
15:54incidents very close together pc foxall reports back to base so we've got like three cars completely burnt
16:02out and damaged to um the third party's vehicle and potentially another vehicle so we've got quite a few vehicles
16:13the fire in the car at the front may have spread to a second car
16:20there is no explanation as to why another car at the back of the house had been set alight
16:26i'm just trying to liaise between fire and the victims
16:32it's vital the police find as many clues as possible to try and identify who's done this
16:38but with the cars being so badly damaged it's not going to be easy
16:44can i just have a quick word you said although it's the middle of the night
16:48many residents have been woken up have you seen anything or heard anything uh i had to sleep
16:55heard the bangs
16:56and you thought it was fireworks did you say yeah the cars on the front were very close to a hedge
17:07which is actually burnt and obviously had a big garden in the houses so the first thing they thought
17:12was is this going to set fire to my house and then what happened after that i got up to have a look
17:19because i could see the lights in my bedroom window could see that that car was on fire
17:23you've seen anything else over the last couple of days or anything suspicious or anything yeah
17:31like i'm actually in the morning to get back to my truck yeah and um i've got food
17:37about cars right there they've been vandalized would you be up to making a statement yeah yeah
17:43obviously fire brigade are doing their thing um me and my colleague are just trying to get statements
17:53from everyone figure out what's happened seeing if anyone's found anything and also speaking to
17:58neighbors see if anyone has seen anything the one around the back you know could have set houses
18:03garages on fire and i think people don't understand that the danger that this can really cause
18:08the danger is not just from the fire itself yeah i'm now into the sort of uh the warmer weather in
18:17the summer people probably have a lot of windows open so um yeah you do get an awful lot of toxic
18:22gases coming off of um fires due to all the sort of man-made materials that they're made of these days
18:31thankfully you know if we're in the height of summer that grass would quite easy
18:34run up in flames and burnt the whole property and it could have killed someone very easily
18:39two of the cars belonged to the same household one that the police had been called to two nights
18:45before when a young female reported problems with a man hanging around and harassing her
18:52and she said like he's exhibited some sort of odd behaviors towards her but she just wanted him to
18:57to be told to clear off and now tonight all the cars to the property have been vandalized
19:02the young woman tells the police she's received a number of voicemail messages
19:14which she claims are from the man
19:15right so what's the message you knew uh just finding out now i'm just trying to find out this other
19:23voicemail when was the last message you had off him the messages seem to suggest that the man may
19:29have been involved in some way with the fires
19:34well hotel three five
19:39thank you have we got any more units available to assist with this job
19:42all the evidence and statements collected will be passed on to the criminal investigation department
19:51they will then work out if there's a strong enough case to press charges
19:56the moment there's only two of us we need to close the road off and create a scene of liaises we see i do
20:02that's their advice and we've also got some evidence to lead us to a suspect as well
20:19these poor poor victims you know who who probably work and put their livelihoods into getting a nice car
20:25only for it to be burnt
20:45can you add to foxtrot hotel two five yes yes go ahead the male you're with has he got any obvious
20:51injuries reports are coming in of a road traffic accident in a rural area just over five minutes
21:01from the scene is pc merchant and reports that someone's been thrown from the vehicle and the driver
21:07of the other vehicle has uh run away if you're thrown from a vehicle um it's probably quite a high
21:15impact were they wearing a seat belt were they not wearing a seat belt
21:29so we're on route to an rtc um reports that someone's been thrown from the vehicle and the driver of the other vehicle has uh run away
21:37pc merchant is heading to a road traffic accident in a rural area
21:48i mean if you're thrown from a vehicle it's probably quite a high impact were they wearing a seat belt were
21:54they not wearing a seat belt initially the reports came in that there could be someone seriously injured
22:00um so of course you try and get there as quickly as possible to try and save their life if needed
22:06so we're going to go first of all make sure the person's okay it's been thrown from the vehicle
22:11and then look for the um person who decided that he doesn't want to hang around
22:17pc merchant isn't the only officer responding to the call
22:21it's important to get as many units there as possible because then it means that one person can treat the uh
22:25um casualty and the uh others can go looking for the person who's run away to find out what they're
22:34hiding oscar tango six one state six
22:41as he arrives a family member who's turned up to help is the first to greet him hey are you okay
22:47who's the driver of this one who's the driver that's not longer around uh so basically this driver's
22:58on foot guard there's another driver over there yeah two of them that needs some attention is right
23:06in where in here they probably need someone like uh they've got the biggest impact okay
23:12especially the one in the front but she refuses to let anybody do it yeah yeah
23:17um while pc merchant tries to find out the extent of the female's injuries
23:24the driver of the car hit by the van is giving his version of events to rhodes policing officer
23:30sergeant gladwin just driving down here and he doesn't stop he's just gone come straight across
23:37it could have been any car along here traveling with the driver were his wife and the two women
23:45have been injured one of the ladies in the car is a ukrainian lady um whose daughter is staying with
23:53us as part of the homes for ukraine so she's going to school in cheltenham and she comes over about every
24:00three to six months so you know i feel sorry for her really anything else so my wife has been doing a
24:07great job with all these ukrainians and um and then we get hit like this i mean and then well i've
24:15obviously pulled a fast one on me but what could you do
24:20there's only so much you can do on the brakes there and luckily no one's here so this is the vehicle
24:27that's been hit by the van um and as you'll see from the near side uh there is quite a lot of damage to
24:32it and the damage is mostly to the to the rear of the car and it's such a high impact that it's
24:38actually taking the wheel off the rear a smaller vehicle um the car would possibly roll multiple
24:45times and and you're looking at a lot uh you're looking at um different injuries from from what
24:51we've got but luckily it's well built it's protected the occupants in the vehicle which is what the car
24:55designed to do luckily the um occupants um haven't been thrown from the vehicle is what was first reported
25:02um and it looks like minor injury however they are injured one of the women has complained of neck
25:08pain and is now being seen by paramedics on the ambulance that's arrived so what impact does this
25:15have on you now i don't know i guess you need your car for going around well i do i've got the golf clubs
25:23in the back that's a major problem isn't it i'm sure they'll be damaged won't they
25:27although the driver of the van has disappeared he did leave his name and phone number
25:36so what's right give me a ring i'm just gonna do it now but let's have a look where they're coming back
25:41but when they call the van driver there's no response he gave his name to the the other person
25:48which does actually match the vehicle in question he's also given a phone number now that didn't come
25:53back to anything when we try to call it whether he's given a false phone number or whether it's
25:56just been taken down wrong i'm open to judging that moment it just raises our suspicions a little bit
26:01when someone decides to leave the scene before we get there and it could be an innocent it could
26:07genuinely have been an innocent thing that he thought i've exchanged my details i'll come and sort my van
26:12tomorrow even though the police haven't got the driver of the van they will check everyone involved
26:19as a matter of routine at any rtc we'll do a roadside drink test the insurance companies ask for
26:25it anyway um so we'll do that
26:33that's what he wants the breath test of the driver whose car was hit is negative
26:51but even with police searching the area there is still no sign of the van driver
26:57so the dog handler's just gone to see if he can locate them we've also got another unit just doing
27:01a um area search uh they're relatively local but um it would take them a long time to get home
27:09so um hopefully we'll be able to intercept them and find out why they've um decided to leave the
27:13scene with their van just left inside the road badly damaged you'd like to think that people's
27:18morals they'd stay around and make sure everyone's okay before walking away i'm just gonna get recovery
27:23for the vehicles
27:24at the junction where the crash happened there are clear signs to slow drivers down you've got warning
27:33signs up there saying there's a junction ahead and also change the speed limit to 50. um this van
27:39for some reason hasn't stopped and has come straight out of the junction so as you can see the um
27:47it's unlit around here as well so if you don't know the area you've got to pay attention to the street
27:51signs we won't get this in the city you wouldn't see the stars look at that moon it's lighting up the
27:56whole hill being where we are literally in the middle of nowhere we're not going to get a lot of
28:04evidential opportunities from any dash cam or any c3 so that makes it a little bit more challenging
28:21so
28:34does he want me to take his um golf clubs and art probably
28:38not probably the most important thing to be fair club's all right things you do for your parents
28:51stay stay pc smith has always teamed up with the same crew mate arnie
29:04uh yeah he's got to be up there so like uh with uh you know the top crew mates that i've had
29:14being dog handler going into work you be your best mate you know you can patrol the county
29:20you get called to some really really good incidents um helping people and trying to make a difference as well
29:39their first job tonight is about a car in gloucester eight miles away
29:44so our intention is to get that vehicle stopped
29:49what's good at six weeks can i put ops eight for a vehicle that's ampr uh in gloucester please
29:54uh there's intel on that vehicle regarding drug drive and i don't think it's got any tax either
30:03i don't know if anyone's available in gloucester throughout that evening the uh the vehicle had
30:09been driving around gloucester and the vehicle wasn't taxed and the intelligence was that the driver
30:16was driving the vehicle under the influence of drugs the traffic sergeant was behind that car
30:24um just activated our npr cameras and uh he's going to be putting a stop in
30:33sergeant gladwin from the roots policing unit was also on duty
30:37and uh the information was shared with him the lights now he's going to go left of the light now
30:42within minutes the car is pulled over the vehicle's been stopped it's going to be seized for no tax
30:53as pc smith called it in he's going to give sergeant gladwin back up
31:01um just on the drugs right which i'm waiting for the results for now to see what's come back from that
31:04but it vehicle has shown up has been untaxed since december last year while they wait for the results of
31:11the drugs test they also need to confirm who the driver is
31:20let's have a look as he doesn't have his license on him the police are accessing the photo on file
31:26of the dvla uh no can't no it doesn't does it bigger face
31:34unless you guys got a lot of weight recently i don't believe that you have your driving license
31:37on you that would make it a lot easier how long is that picture for me i don't know exactly so what
31:41are you talking about so that's why i want in your picture it could well don't know so then do you
31:45what are you talking about yeah he reacted in sort of such a way which was uh more abuse towards
31:51the police what's your bank number i've just said two seven hundred what's your bank number
31:57do you have any id that's got your photograph on so is that me or no well no we need to prove
32:02it is you because at the moment you could be anybody so we tried to identify him and yeah he
32:16wasn't sort of playing ball he gave a name but we wanted to just you know confirm who he was
32:22this could have been done about two minutes ago i still need something to prove like a debit card or
32:51something with your name on yeah yeah yeah i still don't believe in that no because that picture
32:59just doesn't look like you his identification is the least of his worries now the result of the
33:07drug test has come through what is it positive for cannabis
33:11you're gonna do a section 23 search gg
33:23as the driver is suspected of drug driving they are going to search both him and his vehicle
33:32you ain't gonna find
33:33shit the vehicle's been stopped uh and seized on behalf of dvla and then the driver uh the driver
33:42has been uh arrested for uh drug drive you're cocky well cheeky
33:51whilst bc smith continues searching the car it's not just the driver's id that's raising questions
33:57so there's a balaclava there as well
34:08they've told me that i'm not the right person i've got this i've got that
34:12have you got anything on you to be aware of you lot like you individuals
34:17so you're asking for a minute it's hard right you just stop talking have you got anything on you
34:22not to be aware of you actually okay you're just gonna get you in you love okay so you're suing
34:27the pieces you got no road tax and you've been arrested for drug driving
34:34he doesn't like us this bit of bravado i think um he's probably been stopped a few times
34:39which is suggesting and obviously that's our fault not his fault he gets he's the one
34:44who's driving around with no tax and he's the one who's drug driving right now
34:47uh he's going off to cells uh the blood's been sent off to a laboratory and from there uh we'll
34:57be able to see how much uh you know what's in his system watch your head as you get in okay
35:01i'll support you there we go all right we'll see you down there
35:17we took his car off him on behalf dvla and uh dvla of uh sent him a nice bill

41:47that's that's our purpose we don't get the answers if we don't ask the questions i'd rather her be safe
41:52and i don't need to do anything than you know she's in danger and i just ignored it
42:03not far away at one of the clubs in cheltenham officers are dealing with the aftermath of a fight
42:09one man has been kicking off to door staff so the police have been called and are putting him

42:46really nice tone even if they're shouting at me why are you my chiller i don't like to shout i don't
42:52like to raise my voice i don't like my heart rate getting over a certain number um so i'll very much

43:04just calm down for a second all right we'll just chill out of course sometimes it doesn't go go that
43:10well this time pc cahill's dulcet tones haven't worked so the police are left with no alternative
