Arizona Senator Ruben Gallego introduced the You Earn It, You Keep It Act to permanently eliminate federal taxes on Social Security benefits, according to CNBC. The Democratic Senator's proposal would also expand the payroll tax to earnings above $250,000, compared to the current cap of $176,100 in 2025. Gallego said the bill ensures seniors keep more of their benefits while requiring wealthy earners to contribute more. Supporters say it would extend the program’s trust fund to 2058, compared to the revenue-reducing impact of Trump’s temporary senior deduction enacted through his “big beautiful bill.”
