00:00A 41-year-old woman has been charged with assault after allegedly trying to hug the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizuddin Shah, during the state-level National Day celebration in Ipoh.
00:14Nurhaswani Afni Mohamad Zorki from Kampung Manjoy, Perak was charged under Section 352 of the Penal Code before Magistrate Mohamad Harith Mohamad Mazlan on Monday.
00:24She did not enter a plea. The incident occurred at 8.20 a.m. on August 31st in front of the Ipoh Town Hall as the state anthem was being played.
00:35The woman reportedly rushed the stage and attempted to hug the Sultan before being intercepted by security personnel.
00:42If convicted, she faces up to three months jail, a fine of up to 1,000 ringgit or both.
00:48Deputy Public Prosecutor Nasrul Hadi Abdul Ghani told the court that investigations indicated the accused may suffer from schizophrenia.
