00:00Your honor, I respect you and I respect the jury, but I did not do this.
00:03Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the most shocking times famous people fibbed around and found out.
00:10I know the truth, but it's tough to stop once you start.
00:16Number 50. Khloe Kardashian
00:18Sometimes it's more embarrassing to get busted for a petty lie than a huge scandal.
00:23In 2015, for Thanksgiving, Coco posted a shot of delicious baked goods on her Instagram.
00:28She claimed they were homemade, and a result of, quote, testing herself.
00:32However, the internet soon figured out that some of the pies in the photo were apparently from a bakery called Sweet Lady Jane.
00:40Needless to say, the real baker was pretty ticked off.
00:43However, rather than apologizing or laughing it off, Khloe had a very public crash out.
00:48She shared an expletive written post on X to bring haters down.
00:52However, it only made her look more guilty.
00:55Number 49. Robert Pattinson
00:57Making up white lies for the sake of entertainment screams chaotic neutral.
01:02Robert Pattinson has a bit of a reputation for lying in interviews.
01:06One of the strangest stories he came up with was about a circus experience gone wrong.
01:11No, the first time I went to a circus, somebody died. One of the clowns died.
01:15Speaking with Matt Lauer on Today, he claimed that when he went to the circus for the first time,
01:20he witnessed a car explosion that killed a clown.
01:23How did the clown die?
01:25His little car exploded. The joke car exploded on him.
01:29Obviously, that was a lie, and he admitted it himself in a separate interview.
01:33The Twilight star also added that he developed this habit of fibbing because the redundant line of questioning in interviews sent him into a so-called fugue state.
01:40I sort of think it is true, but it probably isn't.
01:45Number 48. Post Malone
01:47When Rolling Stone profiled Postie back in 2017, the rapper couldn't stop gushing over his friend Justin Bieber.
01:54However, in the same breath, he also called him out for being, quote,
01:57real culty. The Sunflower singer claimed Bieber had contributed $10 million to the Hillsong megachurch.
02:04However, he didn't stop there. He threw some major shade Justin's way, saying that God didn't care about gold-roofed churches.
02:11Former Hillsong New York City pastor Carl Lentz strongly opposed Post Malone's claims, stating that JB had not made such a lavish donation.
02:18He also shot down the gold ceiling allegation, claiming the church didn't even own a physical building at the time, let alone boast gilded roofs.
02:26Number 47. Dove Cameron
02:29This one might be a tamer lie in comparison to some others on this list, but the emotion behind it will tug at your heartstrings.
02:36Dove Cameron was named Chloe Celeste Hosterman at birth. However, we've always known her as Dove.
02:42Early in her career, fans assumed it was her real first name, and she didn't exactly offer a correction.
02:47However, she later revealed that she had legally changed her name from Chloe to Dove in honor of her father, who lovingly called her by that name.
02:55Dove's dad, Philip Allen Hosterman, passed away when she was a young teen, so going by Dove was a meaningful choice rather than a lie.
03:03Number 46. Ben Affleck
03:05The goodwill hunting actor once lied to the press out of sheer spite after the paparazzi invaded his privacy.
03:11It all went down in 2015 when Affleck was photographed with a majestic phoenix tattoo on his back.
03:16This is Phoenix, rising from my ass, and I was about to say it represents something really important to me, but you know what, maybe just, we'll skip that.
03:24At the time, he told Mario Lopez in an interview that the ink was fake and for a movie.
03:29However, it was very much real, as he later revealed.
03:32Ben even admitted to the New York Times that he felt resentful about the piece being sneakily exposed by the paparazzi, hence the lie.
03:39More recently, his back tattoo seems to have changed.
03:43We wonder if it's real or fake this time.
03:45It has too many colors. His tattoos always had too many colors.
03:48Number 45. Alex Rodriguez
03:50When a 2009 Sports Illustrated story exposed A-Rod for using performance-enhancing substances in 2003, he went after the reporter who broke the story, Selena Roberts.
04:00The former MLB star claimed Roberts had been stalking him and alleged that she had attempted to break into his home.
04:06However, the police clarified that Selena had not been reported for any of those supposed crimes.
04:11Soon after, Alex apologized for his accusations.
04:15I did take a banned substance.
04:18And, you know, for that, I'm very sorry.
04:22Years later, he was caught up in another PES controversy, known as the Biogenesis Scandal.
04:27He denied involvement at first, but that too was apparently a lie.
04:31And he had to face suspension.
04:33One of the biggest names on that list, New York Yankee star Alex Rodriguez.
04:36Number 44. Kylie Jenner
04:39When this young icon first got her lips done, she had everyone talking about them.
04:43It was a cultural shift, and you just had to be there.
04:46However, the big change was intimidating for King Kylie.
04:49Your lips look amazing.
04:51Really?
04:51Yeah.
04:52I almost said they were too big yesterday.
04:53She told everyone she had achieved her signature pout with Lip Liner alone before admitting to temporary lip fillers.
04:59Later on, she confessed that she, quote,
05:02tiptoed around the truth out of fear of being judged.
05:04I have temporary lip fillers.
05:06It's just an insecurity of mine, and it's what I wanted to do.
05:10Nevertheless, the millionaire socialite took all the traction her new look got and turned it into a genius business idea,
05:16launching her famous Kylie lip kit.
05:18That is how her journey to becoming one of America's richest self-made women began.
05:23I never imagined that Kylie Cosmetics would grow to what it has.
05:27Number 43. Terrence Howard
05:29The Oscar-nominated actor once told Jimmy Kimmel that he had a PhD in chemical engineering.
05:35He even specified that he received the degree from South Carolina State University.
05:39It didn't take people long to figure out that the university doesn't even offer such a program.
05:44More importantly, Howard was never a student there.
05:48In fact, he didn't even complete his undergraduate studies in chemical engineering from Pratt Institute.
05:53The only connection he had to SCSU was an honorary doctorate of humane letters degree he had been awarded by it.
05:59The PhD hoax was probably meant to lend some credibility to his teriology claims.
06:04Remember when he tried to prove 1 times 1 equals 2?
06:07I don't have an issue with multiplication.
06:09Well, then 1 times 1 is what?
06:121 times 1 should equal 2.
06:14Neil deGrasse Tyson later called him out for misinformation.
06:17Terrence Howard attempting to reinvent mathematics and physics.
06:23Number 42. Tori Spelling
06:25Number 4. Now, they welcome son Finn Davey is his name.
06:29After giving birth to her son Finn in 2012, the Beverly Hills 90210 star told Us Weekly that she dropped her baby weight by exercising and eating healthy.
06:38In no way, shape or form did anything that was completely unhealthy for my body.
06:43However, in her memoir, Spelling It Like It Is, she came clean and revealed that her initial comments were made at the suggestion of her publicist.
06:51Her weight loss was actually caused by extreme dieting.
06:54But the optics of such a revelation wouldn't be ideal.
06:57So, she said she was shedding pounds by swimming a lot.
07:00Years later, Tori admitted to using Ozempic and Monjaro to lose weight after having her youngest son, Beau.
07:06Number 41. Suki Waterhouse
07:09The Daisy Jones and the Six actress took a page out of her fiancé Robert Pattinson's Book of Lies for this one.
07:14She once told Us Weekly that she liked washing her hair with Coca-Cola because it gave her otherwise fine and lifeless hair some texture.
07:22Quote,
07:23Coca-Cola makes it tousled, like I've gone through the Amazon or something, she said.
07:27Needless to say, the model underestimated her influence because fans rushed to incorporate the soda into their hair care routines.
07:34It was only after years had passed that Suki owned up to fibbing and revealed on X that she made up the style tip out of boredom.
07:41Number 40. Brian Dennehy
07:42For years, the storied actor lied about his military record.
07:46He claimed to have served in Vietnam, but it turned out to be a case of stolen valor.
07:51While it was true that he was a part of the United States Marine Corps,
07:54he completely lied about fighting in the Vietnam War and getting injured in combat.
07:59When the truth eventually came out, Dennehy apologized for his fabrication,
08:03explaining that he didn't know how to clear things up after starting the rumor.
08:06Even after acknowledging this, the death of a salesman actor reportedly continued running with his Vietnam story,
08:11showing a lack of remorse.
08:14Number 39. Charlie Puth
08:16Remember when the Light Switch singer reportedly had a thing going on with Bella Thorne in 2016?
08:21Well, it didn't last long, and Charlie supposedly wrote the song Attention About Her.
08:26He explained to Genius that he was singing about someone who was manipulating him to be, quote,
08:30attached to her hip.
08:31Which was, for me, to be attached to her hip at all times.
08:34Years later, Little Mix's Jade said she wouldn't collaborate with Puth,
08:38presumably because of their past drama over him allegedly hitting on her while she was taken.
08:43It was then that Thorne chimed in with a revelation of her own.
08:46She claimed that Charlie, quote,
08:48started a hate train against her because she wouldn't get intimate with him.
08:51The jury is still out on whose account is true.
08:54Number 38. Kate Winslet
08:56The Titanic actress is a fierce feminist, but even she succumbed to societal pressure after the birth of her daughter Mia.
09:02The star had undergone an emergency C-section to bring Mia into the world,
09:06but initially told the press it was a, quote,
09:08uncomplicated natural birth.
09:10The Oscar winner was so traumatized by the fact that she hadn't delivered her baby naturally
09:14that she took extreme measures to hide the truth.
09:17After birthing her son Joe, naturally,
09:19she told Gotham Magazine that she lied about Mia's birth because she thought of herself as a, quote,
09:24complete failure and felt locked out of the, quote,
09:26powerful women's club.
09:28That tells you all you need to know about the stigma surrounding cesarean childbirth
09:32that continues to plague mothers even today.
09:35Number 37. Vin Diesel
09:37The Fast and Furious actor has bragging rights for a lot of things.
09:41Being a Beastie Boys dancer is not one of them.
09:44During an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live,
09:46the action star shared that he danced for the group when he was a teenager.
09:49He claimed that the rap collective lived in his neighborhood
09:52and took him in as their dancer after watching him perform on the street.
09:55This helped him enter Danceteria, a club he wanted to get into.
09:59However, Adam Horowitz told Seth Meyers that the story wasn't true.
10:03Claimed on Jimmy Kimmel's show last week
10:06that he was a break dancer for Beastie Boys, and he was not.
10:10He admitted that Adam Yauch may have acted like an underage Vin was with the band
10:14so he could enter Danceteria.
10:16However, the actor was never officially associated with the band.
10:20He said he was a break dancer for the Beastie Boys.
10:22That's weird, you guys.
10:24Well done.
10:24Number 36. Lindsay Lohan
10:27The loss of Whitney Houston was mourned by the world.
10:30So it was particularly upsetting when Lindsay Lohan falsely claimed
10:33she was assigned to work with her remains
10:36during her 2012 community service stint at the LA County morgue.
10:39The Mean Girls star said it was messed up and, quote,
10:42inappropriate that she had to roll the plastic for the late icon's body.
10:46However, in the actress's own words, she, quote,
10:49thought it would be a lot worse.
10:50Not long after Lohan made the shocking claim,
10:53the coroner's office set the record straight by denying
10:55that she was ever involved with handling Houston's body.
10:59Number 35. Tyrese Gibson
11:01In 2017, the Transformers actor was accused of assaulting his firstborn child,
11:06Shayla, which led to him having a very public meltdown.
11:09During this rough patch, he told fans that Will and Jada Pinkett Smith
11:13had given him $5 million to make ends meet.
11:16At the time, he referred to the couple as his brother and sister.
11:19However, insiders told TMZ that the Smiths had not offered
11:22any such monetary help to Gibson.
11:24Soon after, Tyrese clarified on Instagram that he had lied.
11:28Years passed and he brought it up again in an interview,
11:31admitting that he was struggling with his mental health at the time.
11:34Quote, I was out of my mind, he said,
11:36blaming his medication for the outrageous claim.
11:39Will Smith is gonna give me $5 million.
11:41I never even talked to Will Smith.
11:43I was out of my mind.
11:44Number 34. Sharon Stone
11:46The Basic Instinct star is not only one of the sexiest women in Hollywood,
11:51but also one of the smartest.
11:52In fact, she is intelligent enough to be in Mensa.
11:56However, that's not exactly the same as actually being a Mensa member.
12:00I'm not stupid.
12:01We know you're not stupid, Ms. Tramiel.
12:03For a long time, Sharon Stone seemingly said she was one
12:06until a Mensa representative, Jim Blackstone,
12:09reportedly debunked the claim.
12:11He also explained that the iconic star
12:13couldn't have attended a Mensa program in high school
12:15as she once dated.
12:16This was seemingly because no such programs were offered
12:19when Stone was a student.
12:21The Oscar-nominated performer took back her assertion in 2002.
12:25Number 33. Todd Lawson Ladourette
12:28When the Better Call Saul actor was starting out in the entertainment industry,
12:31he pretended to be a war veteran who lost an arm in combat.
12:35This helped him stand out and book roles.
12:37In reality, Todd Lawson Ladourette amputated his own limb
12:40during a mental health episode.
12:42The actor, who reportedly has bipolar disorder,
12:45had not been taking his medication,
12:46which led him to commit such a self-destructive act.
12:49After working as an actor for years,
12:51he fessed up about falsifying his military record out of guilt.
12:55Having done so, Ladourette took the opportunity
12:57to spread awareness about the importance of medication
12:59for mental health issues.
13:01Number 32. Meghan Markle
13:03Ever since the suit's actress became the Duchess of Sussex,
13:07she has been grilled by the media for allegedly making up stories
13:10that many consider to be outright lies.
13:12One such instance was when Meghan claimed
13:14that a South African actor had likened her and Prince Harry's marriage
13:17to Nelson Mandela's release from prison.
13:20According to The Mom of Two,
13:21it happened at the 2019 premiere of The Lion King,
13:24and the actor in question had been a cast member.
13:27Well, the person she was probably talking about,
13:30renowned actor John Connie,
13:31told The Telegraph that he neither attended the premiere
13:33nor remembered talking to Meghan.
13:35The Black Panther star further added
13:37that the comparison was, quote,
13:38baffling and possibly a, quote,
13:40faux pas on her part.
13:42Number 31. Robin Thicke
13:44When Blurred Lines first came out,
13:46it was as catchy as it was controversial.
13:49Critics condemned the song for its misogynistic themes
13:51and explicit music video.
13:54It was also said to be a rip-off of Marvin Gaye's Got to Give It Up,
14:04which resulted in a prolonged legal battle.
14:06Ahead of the plagiarism lawsuit,
14:08Thicke had been bragging about co-writing the track in interviews.
14:11However, he was quick to backtrack during his deposition,
14:14admitting that Pharrell Williams,
14:15who is featured in the song,
14:17wrote virtually all of it.
14:18Meanwhile, Thicke said he was too intoxicated in the studio
14:22to contribute in any significant way.
14:29Number 30. SZA
14:31If people already love you for your music,
14:33there's no need to lie just to impress them.
14:35R&B singer SZA told fans that she had never owned a TV,
14:39only for a picture to emerge of her supposedly with one she owned.
14:42Then, she said her freckles were natural.
14:44They weren't.
14:45And that she wasn't, quote,
14:46a cake or pie person,
14:48but had been photographed enjoying a birthday cake.
14:51That all paled in comparison to her claim
14:53of earning a degree in marine biology from an Ivy League school.
14:59In reality,
15:00she had enrolled in Delaware State University for that program,
15:03but dropped out to pursue music.
15:05Considering how well that worked out,
15:06it's a mystery why she felt the need to tweak the story.
15:18Number 29. Elon Musk
15:20In 2022,
15:23the Tesla CEO took a stand
15:24against conspiracy theorist Alex Jones,
15:26who had allegedly been spreading false information
15:29about the Sandy Hook tragedy.
15:31His account on Twitter had been banned
15:32before Musk became chairman,
15:34and he refused to reinstate it.
15:35Elon explained that he had zero tolerance
15:38for people who capitalized on the deaths of children
15:40because he knew the pain of losing a child.
15:43The billionaire's firstborn son
15:44passed away from sudden infant death syndrome,
15:46and he claimed he was holding the little one
15:48when he left the world.
15:50However,
15:50his ex-wife and the mother of the child,
15:52Justine Wilson,
15:53alleged that her son died in her arms.
15:55While we may never know the truth,
15:57Musk did not contest her claim.
16:00Number 28.
16:01Victoria Beckham
16:02Victoria Beckham reveals
16:03she had her breast implants removed
16:05in the upcoming issue of Allure magazine.
16:08After giving birth to her first son in 1999,
16:11fans noticed something had changed
16:12about Victoria Beckham.
16:14Her bust size had gotten dramatically bigger.
16:16Sure, motherhood comes with a myriad of physical changes,
16:19but this one seemed a little too enhanced.
16:21Back then,
16:22Beckham shut down rumors of cosmetic surgery,
16:25insisting that she was, quote,
16:26According to the former Spice Girl,
16:29her increased bust size was a result of support tape
16:32and push-up bras.
16:33The denials continued until 2005,
16:35when her lawyers let it slip
16:37that she had actually undergone breast augmentation.
16:40But it would take until 2014
16:41for Beckham to finally confess herself,
16:43revealing that she had removed the implants
16:45and regretted ever having them in the first place.
16:48And she does say she regretted it
16:49and she was very insecure about the way she looked.
16:52Number 27.
16:53Olivia Jade
16:54Getting into a prestigious university can be tough.
16:57Unless, of course,
16:58your wealthy, well-connected parents
16:59are willing to grease a few palms.
17:01The daughter of fashion designer Massimo Giannulli
17:03and actress Lori Loughlin,
17:05Olivia Jade was at the center of a scandal in 2019
17:08due to her parents paying to get her admitted
17:10into the University of Southern California.
17:12This morning, Olivia Jade Giannulli
17:14is at the center of a new twist
17:16in the college admissions scandal.
17:18Lauren, do you want to say anything
17:18to the other young students out there?
17:20A scandal that has already engulfed her parents,
17:23actress Lori Loughlin
17:24and fashion designer Massimo Giannulli,
17:26who were fighting charges
17:27they paid $500,000 in bribes
17:30to get their daughters into USC.
17:32Prosecutors charged them with fraud and bribery
17:34and uncovered a fake athletic profile
17:37that painted Jade as a champion rower,
17:39despite never having played the sport.
17:41The deception also included staged pictures
17:43of Jade and her sister Isabella
17:45posing on rowing machines.
17:47Although both girls initially secured spots at USC,
17:50their enrollment didn't last long
17:51once the truth emerged.
17:52Olivia Jade not to,
17:54and to try to take one of those legitimate spots
17:57for of another athlete,
18:00I just think is deplorable.
18:02And she didn't address that.
18:03Number 26, Hasan Minhaj.
18:05This former Daily Show correspondent
18:07was a shoo-in to take over as host
18:09until The New Yorker published an article
18:11accusing him of embellishing the stories
18:13in his stand-up routines.
18:14In Minhaj's special, The King's Jester,
18:17he recounted receiving an envelope of white powder
18:19he initially believed was anthrax.
18:21The powder then spilled on his daughter,
18:23and he rushed her to the hospital
18:24only to learn it was harmless.
18:26He detailed another story about an FBI informant
18:28infiltrating his mosque and physically assaulting him.
18:31It was kind of storytelling,
18:33and it turns out that he made a lot of it up
18:36and said, he kept on using the phrase with me,
18:38there was an emotional truth to it.
18:40So, you know, and I think what he means by that is,
18:42he's right, people after 9-11 who are Muslim
18:45did feel a sense of danger,
18:47but again, like, things didn't happen to him.
18:49And the New Yorker claimed
18:50that both stories were exaggerated,
18:53which Minhaj more or less acknowledged.
18:55However, in a YouTube video,
18:57he called the article, quote,
18:58needlessly misleading,
19:00insisting that his embellishments weren't deception,
19:02but only a storytelling technique.
19:04But this New Yorker article
19:05definitely makes me look like one.
19:07It was so needlessly misleading,
19:09not just about my stand-up,
19:11but also me as a person.
19:15The truth is, racism, FBI surveillance,
19:19and threats to my family happened.
19:22Number 25, Ilaria Baldwin.
19:24How's married life?
19:25Married life is really nice.
19:27Born Hilary Lynn Hayward Thomas
19:29in Boston, Massachusetts,
19:30this yoga instructor and entrepreneur
19:32eventually reinvented herself as Ilaria.
19:35In 2020, after noticing that Ilaria Baldwin
19:38had been misrepresenting herself as Spanish,
19:40one Twitter user compiled a thread exposing her.
19:43This included a clip from the Today Show
19:45where Baldwin appeared to forget
19:46the English word for cucumber
19:47and various interviews of her speaking
19:49in a Spanish accent.
19:51We have, um, what is it saying?
19:53Cucumber?
19:54Cucumber.
19:54This thread unleashed a wave of more inconsistencies,
19:58like her agency's website falsely listing
20:00her birthplace as Mallorca
20:01and her willingness to let people believe
20:03she was half Spanish.
20:04Baldwin eventually apologized for the falsehoods,
20:07explaining that though she was raised
20:09with both American and Spanish cultures,
20:11she should have been clearer about her actual roots.
20:14There's been some questions about where I'm born.
20:18I'm born in Boston.
20:19And then I spent some of my childhood in Boston,
20:22some of my childhood in Spain.
20:24But her biography on her agency's website states,
20:27Baldwin was born in Mallorca, Spain.
20:29Number 24.
20:30Hulk Hogan.
20:31The late Hulk Hogan was a wrestling legend,
20:34but he was also a master at rewriting history
20:36to make himself look cooler.
20:38Perhaps his most outrageous tale involved
20:40the king of rock and roll, Elvis Presley.
20:43According to Hogan's WWE-produced autobiography,
20:46Presley was a diehard fan of his
20:48who would swing by to watch him wrestle live in Memphis.
20:50But when I started wrestling in Memphis,
20:53he used to ride a Harley and put a helmet on at night.
20:57He'd go out at night and ride his Harley around.
20:59And then he'd come to the Mid-South Coliseum
21:00and sit way up in the top of the building
21:02and watch wrestling.
21:03Sounds impressive.
21:05Until you realize that Presley passed away in 1977,
21:09two full years before Hogan even set foot
21:11in a Memphis ring.
21:12That was far from his only lie.
21:14Hogan also claimed that both the Rolling Stones
21:17and Metallica wanted him as their bassist
21:19and that he was Darren Aronofsky's first pick
21:21for the lead role in The Wrestler.
21:23Both claims have since been debunked.
21:25Well, I quit playing music when I started wrestling in 77,
21:30you know, and this was, I don't know.
21:34He's Hulk Hogan and he still wants to be a rock star.
21:36Everyone wants to be a goddamn rock star.
21:38Brother, can you imagine being in Metallica
21:40in The Rolling Stones?
21:41Are you kidding me?
21:42Number 23, Tonya Harding.
21:45In arguably the most notorious scandal in figure skating,
21:48Olympian Nancy Kerrigan was ambushed in January 1994,
21:52leaving her with a bruised leg
21:53and her career in jeopardy.
21:55The attack was meant to sideline her from competing
21:57and was eventually traced to Jeff Galluli,
22:00the then husband of Kerrigan's rival, Tonya Harding.
22:03Naturally, suspicion fell on Harding.
22:06Although she denied prior knowledge of the attack,
22:08Harding later pleaded guilty to covering it up
22:10and earned a lifetime ban
22:12from the U.S. Figure Skating Association.
22:14Tonya Harding always denied any involvement in the attack,
22:17but she was fined $100,000
22:19and banned for life from competitive skating.
22:22For decades, she stuck to the story,
22:25until 2018 when she finally admitted in an ABC special
22:28that she knew about the plot beforehand.
22:31But of course, she maintained that she had nothing to do
22:34with actually carrying it out.
22:35We talked, we were at an event four years after I was attacked,
22:41but we didn't really speak to each other,
22:42so it was very awkward and strange.
22:44So you don't feel like you ever got an apology?
22:48Not a direct.
22:49It doesn't matter at this point.
22:52Number 22, Prince Andrew.
22:54Prince Andrew shared a close friendship
22:56with disgraced financier and sex trafficker
22:58Jeffrey Epstein for years.
22:59During this period,
23:00he was accused of engaging in unlawful activities
23:03with Virginia Giuffre,
23:05allegedly with Epstein's help.
23:06Following Epstein's death in 2019,
23:09Andrew sat for a disastrous interview
23:11with BBC's Newsnight,
23:12where he denied having sex with Giuffre
23:14and claimed to have only met Epstein once
23:17after his 2008 conviction to sever ties.
23:20That, however, turned out to be a lie.
23:22Court documents have revealed
23:23that may not be the case.
23:26One email sent to Jeffrey Epstein
23:28from a member of the British royal family
23:30in February 2011,
23:33said keep in close touch
23:34and will play some more soon.
23:37Court papers from a separate civil case
23:39revealed emails showing
23:40that Andrew arranged a meeting with Epstein
23:42in February 2011,
23:44despite his claims that their last encounter
23:46was in December 2010.
23:48Although he denied Giuffre's allegations,
23:50he later settled with her
23:52for a reported 5 million pounds.
23:54The problem was the fact
23:55that once he had been convicted...
23:59You stayed with him?
24:00I stayed with him.
24:01And that's the bit that,
24:04as it were,
24:06I kick myself for on a daily basis.
24:09Number 21, James Fry.
24:11In this corner, there's Oprah.
24:12In this corner,
24:13we've got James Fry to defend himself.
24:15I don't know why he's there,
24:16but he's there trying to defend himself.
24:18Back when the Oprah Winfrey show
24:20ruled daytime TV,
24:21every author dreamed of making it
24:23onto Oprah's book club.
24:24In September 2005,
24:26James Fry hit the jackpot
24:28when his memoir,
24:29A Million Little Pieces,
24:30got the coveted nod,
24:31turning it into a cultural phenomenon.
24:33The book detailed Fry's experience
24:35with substance use disorder
24:36and journey to sobriety.
24:38However, a few months later,
24:40an investigative website accused Fry
24:41of fabricating multiple details in the book.
24:44Winfrey initially stood by Fry,
24:46but as the evidence mounted,
24:48she brought him onto her show
24:49and grilled him about the memoir's authenticity.
24:51I was defending my turf
24:53and defending every single viewer
24:57who had bought that book.
25:00I am standing here on behalf of the reader
25:02who's pissed off.
25:04Fry ultimately admitted
25:05to embellishing parts of the story,
25:07leaving Winfrey and her audience disappointed.
25:09As a result,
25:10subsequent editions of the book
25:11included a disclaimer.
25:13If this came as clear as,
25:15you know,
25:15as if it were being spoken to me,
25:17is that what people saw
25:20was my lack of compassion.
25:23Number 20,
25:24Tiger Woods.
25:25Needless to say,
25:26a successful marriage hinges on openness
25:28and honesty among all parties involved.
25:31Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren
25:33were once the picture-perfect couple,
25:35the golf great,
25:37and his model wife.
25:38Hence,
25:39it's understandable
25:40why professional golfer Tiger Woods
25:42and Elin Nordegren's marriage fell apart
25:44when it was revealed
25:45that he engaged in extramarital affairs
25:47and lied about them.
25:48This shocking revelation came in 2009
25:50after Woods crashed his car
25:52just outside his Florida home,
25:54triggering media scrutiny
25:55into his personal life.
25:57Subsequently,
25:58several women came forward
25:59alleging that they had had affairs
26:00with the golfer.
26:01Woods eventually owned up to the claims,
26:04admitting that he had lied
26:05to a lot of people,
26:06including himself.
26:07I am deeply sorry
26:09for my irresponsible
26:11and selfish behavior
26:13I engaged in.
26:14The fallout from the scandal
26:16not only cost him his marriage,
26:18it also had significant consequences
26:20for his career.
26:21Number 19,
26:22Star Jones.
26:23The long-running daytime talk show
26:25The View
26:25was designed as a platform
26:27for women to engage
26:28in candid discussions
26:29about various topical issues.
26:31But it turns out
26:32one of its original panelists,
26:33Star Jones,
26:34wasn't so candid
26:35about her personal life.
26:36I was struggling with my weight
26:38since I was 18 years old.
26:41Fitness wasn't important to me.
26:43Nutrition wasn't important to me.
26:46Food was my vice
26:47and my comfort.
26:49In 2003,
26:50Jones,
26:50who was once diagnosed
26:52as morbidly obese,
26:53began to lose weight
26:54in a rather dramatic fashion.
26:56According to her,
26:57this was the result
26:58of a strict dieting
26:59and exercise regimen.
27:00She also vaguely alluded
27:02to receiving a, quote,
27:03medical intervention.
27:04However,
27:05rumors persisted
27:06that seemed
27:07to suggest otherwise.
27:09Finally,
27:09in 2007,
27:11Jones confirmed
27:11the speculations,
27:13disclosing that she had
27:14indeed undergone
27:15gastric bypass surgery
27:16to help with her weight loss.
27:17In 2003,
27:19I took control
27:19and underwent
27:20gastric bypass surgery.
27:22I went from 307 pounds
27:24to, at the lowest,
27:26142 pounds.
27:28Number 18,
27:29Rick Ross.
27:30In 2008,
27:32a photograph emerged
27:33in the media
27:33showing Rick Ross
27:34dressed as a correctional officer.
27:36The rapper took offense
27:37to its publication,
27:39insisting that his face
27:40had been digitally manipulated
27:41onto someone else's body
27:42by, quote,
27:43online hackers.
27:44It's a lot of people
27:45that don't understand it.
27:46I don't blame them.
27:47In fact,
27:48he took things
27:49a step further
27:49by challenging anyone
27:51to provide solid proof
27:52that he ever worked
27:53in the prison system.
27:54Well,
27:55investigative website
27:56The Smoking Gun
27:57decided to take him up
27:58on the challenge.
27:59They unearthed
28:00his personal record
28:01with the Department
28:01of Corrections,
28:02complete with his
28:03social security number
28:04and copies
28:05of his birth certificate.
28:07Faced with
28:07the overwhelming evidence,
28:09Ross confessed
28:09to his past job
28:10as a corrections officer
28:11in Florida
28:12between 1995
28:13and 1997.
28:15What made you
28:16want to do that?
28:16One of my big homies.
28:18One of my big homies
28:19that just got in trouble
28:20and a lot of people,
28:22a lot of things
28:22were going on
28:23and he just suggested it.
28:25Number 17.
28:26Rebel Wilson
28:26The film industry
28:28is often seen
28:29as a realm
28:29of smoke and mirrors,
28:30a reputation
28:31that was certainly
28:32not helped
28:32by Australian actress
28:34Rebel Wilson.
28:35Back in 2015,
28:36an Australian magazine
28:37alleged that Wilson
28:38had fabricated
28:39several aspects
28:40of her personal history.
28:41People were calling me
28:42a liar and a fake
28:44and for someone like me
28:46who prides herself
28:47on being very candid
28:48and authentic.
28:49It was just probably
28:51the most devastating
28:52thing they could have
28:53said to me.
28:54The actress had claimed
28:55to be 29 years old
28:56that year
28:57and asserted that
28:58Rebel was her birth name.
28:59However,
29:00a former classmate
29:01countered this,
29:02stating that she was
29:03actually 36 at the time
29:05and official records
29:06revealed her birth name
29:07as Melanie Elizabeth Bounds.
29:09I pity her
29:10and I feel
29:10really sad for her
29:12that she would do that
29:13because now
29:14she would have that
29:15on her conscience
29:16and I feel like
29:17that's kind of
29:18probably calmer enough
29:21for her.
29:22In addition,
29:23Wilson's claim
29:24of a rough upbringing
29:25in the quote-unquote
29:26ghetto of Sydney
29:27was debunked,
29:28as evidence pointed
29:29to a quote,
29:30very normal
29:31upper-middle-class
29:32background.
29:33Number 16.
29:34Bow Wow
29:35Sometimes celebrities
29:36tell lies
29:37that seem understandable.
29:38Other times,
29:39such as in the case
29:40of Bow Wow,
29:41their fabrications
29:42are so ridiculous
29:43and unnecessary
29:44they leave you wondering
29:45why.
29:46In 2017,
29:48Bow Wow shared a picture
29:49of a private jet
29:49on his Instagram,
29:51claiming he was flying
29:51to New York
29:52with the aircraft.
29:53Yet shortly after,
29:55a fan spotted him
29:56seated in economy class
29:57on a New York-bound
29:58commercial flight.
29:59Oh, you just posted
30:00a picture you like?
30:00Yeah.
30:01What the hell?
30:02What the hell's the problem?
30:03Because the way it looked,
30:04it looked as if
30:05I was taking
30:06the big boy jet
30:06going to New York
30:07and really I was on Delta.
30:09A quick reverse image search
30:10revealed that the original
30:11picture Bow Wow posted
30:12was actually a stock photo
30:14from the website
30:14of a private transport service.
30:16This led to social media
30:18users ridiculing the rapper,
30:20sparking the hashtag
30:21Bow Wow challenge,
30:22in which they shared
30:23side-by-side pictures
30:24depicting a glamorous
30:25falsehood alongside
30:26their mundane reality.
30:28If I fly commercial,
30:29no lie,
30:29this is real shit.
30:29But you know a private jet
30:30means it's just for you,
30:32not for other people
30:32who can buy tickets.
30:33No.
30:34Well they got this thing
30:35called Jet Smarter.
30:36Are you up on that?
30:36Yeah, Jet Smarter.
30:36No.
30:3715.
30:38Ryan Lochte
30:38All eyes were on
30:40decorated swimmer
30:41Ryan Lochte
30:41at the 2016 Summer Olympics
30:43in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
30:45However,
30:46Lochte misused
30:47that attention
30:47and effectively
30:48derailed his career
30:49after falsely claiming
30:51to have been robbed
30:51at gunpoint
30:52by individuals
30:53impersonating
30:54police officers.
30:54These guys came out
30:56with a badge,
30:58a police badge.
30:59No lights,
31:00no nothing,
31:00just a police badge.
31:02They pulled us over,
31:03they pulled out their guns,
31:05they told the other
31:07swimmers
31:08to get down on the ground.
31:09The incident generated
31:10international attention,
31:12but as more details emerged,
31:13it became apparent
31:14that Lochte
31:15and three other swimmers
31:16allegedly vandalized
31:17a gas station bathroom
31:18and were made
31:19to pay for the damages.
31:21Lochte eventually apologized
31:22for over-exaggerating
31:24his story
31:24and was charged
31:25in Brazil
31:26with falsely
31:27reporting a crime.
31:28I did lie about
31:29that one part
31:29and I take full responsibility.
31:32I'm human.
31:33I made a mistake,
31:34a very big mistake
31:35and it's something
31:36that I learned from
31:38and I know
31:39that that will
31:40never happen again.
31:41Although the charges
31:42were later dropped,
31:43the repercussions
31:44to his career
31:45were severe.
31:46He lost multiple endorsements
31:47and received
31:48a 10-month suspension
31:49from competitive swimming.
31:51Number 14,
31:52Brandy.
31:53In 2002,
31:54then 23-year-old singer
31:56Brandy appeared
31:56on The Oprah Winfrey Show
31:58where she announced
31:59that she was expecting
32:00her first child
32:00with music producer
32:01Robert Smith.
32:02We recently learned
32:03that she got married
32:04and is...
32:06She's married now
32:09and is expecting
32:11a baby girl
32:12this summer.
32:14But that wasn't
32:15her only big announcement.
32:16She also revealed
32:17that she and Smith
32:18had gotten married
32:19in a secret ceremony
32:20months earlier.
32:21However,
32:22it turns out
32:22only one of those
32:23statements was true.
32:24After their relationship
32:25ended,
32:26Smith admitted
32:27that they had
32:27actually never
32:28gotten married.
32:29This claim
32:29was later confirmed
32:30by Brandy
32:31to none other
32:32than Oprah herself.
32:33I felt the pressure
32:34of, again,
32:37having to be perfect.
32:39And I was scared.
32:42According to the singer,
32:44they had fabricated
32:44the marriage story
32:45to protect her innocent image
32:47as she desired
32:48to maintain the perception
32:49of not having a child
32:50out of wedlock.
32:52Number 13,
32:53The White Stripes
32:54When Jack and Meg White
32:55first started gaining traction
32:56in the Detroit music scene
32:58as the indie rock duo
32:59The White Stripes,
33:00they made everyone
33:01believe they were siblings.
33:02Hello,
33:02my sister and I
33:03would like to thank
33:04Mass Music
33:05and everyone who voted for us
33:06for Best International Video.
33:08This image persisted,
33:10even as the two
33:11rose to international fame.
33:13However,
33:13in 2002,
33:15a local Detroit paper
33:16did some digging
33:16and uncovered the truth.
33:18Jack and Meg
33:19were once married.
33:20They tied the knot
33:21in 1996,
33:22shortly before forming
33:23the band,
33:24and divorced in 2000,
33:26just as they began
33:27gaining widespread attention.
33:28Despite this revelation,
33:30they maintained
33:31that they were siblings.
33:32It wasn't until 2005
33:33that Jack publicly
33:35acknowledged the deception,
33:36stating that they had
33:37propagated the lie
33:38so as to be taken
33:39more seriously as musicians.
33:41And that ain't
33:42what you want to hear,
33:43but that's what I'll do.
33:46Number 12,
33:47Bill O'Reilly
33:47Conservative journalist
33:49Bill O'Reilly
33:50has faced scrutiny
33:50over some of his
33:51exaggerated claims.
33:53In 2013,
33:54O'Reilly asserted
33:55in a book
33:56that he was present
33:57outside the home
33:58where George
33:58DeMorenschild
33:59fatally shot himself
34:00and had heard
34:01the shotgun blast.
34:02That's what O'Reilly
34:03wrote in the book,
34:04plain and simple,
34:04right there.
34:05O'Reilly says
34:05he was outside
34:06the guy's house
34:06in Florida
34:07when he heard
34:08the fatal gunshot.
34:09And he said
34:10basically the same thing
34:11on Fox News
34:11while promoting his book.
34:13DeMorenschild
34:13had gained notoriety
34:14for his association
34:15with Lee Harvey Oswald
34:17before the assassination
34:18of President John F. Kennedy.
34:19However,
34:20this was later
34:21debunked as false.
34:23Then,
34:23in 2015,
34:24Mother Jones Magazine
34:25published an article
34:26which disputed
34:27O'Reilly's claims
34:28that he was on
34:28the Falkland Islands
34:29during the 1982 war.
34:31Because I was in a situation
34:32one time in a war zone
34:34in Argentina
34:35in the Falklands
34:36where my photographer
34:37got run down.
34:39The controversy
34:40that ensued
34:41led O'Reilly
34:41to retract
34:42previous assertions
34:43that he had witnessed
34:44extreme violence
34:45during conflicts
34:45in El Salvador
34:46and Northern Ireland.
34:48Number 11.
34:49Steven Seagal
34:49In addition to his roles
34:51in action films,
34:52Steven Seagal
34:53has also dabbled
34:54in reality TV,
34:55most notably
34:56the A&E series
34:57Steven Seagal Lawman.
34:58That's him
34:59in the white t-shirt,
35:00Joaquin.
35:01That's him.
35:02The show trailed him
35:03as a reserve deputy sheriff
35:04in Arizona and Louisiana.
35:06During his work
35:07on the series,
35:08Seagal claimed
35:08to be a licensed
35:09law enforcement officer
35:10in California.
35:11But when the LA Times
35:12did a little research,
35:13they found no evidence
35:15of such certification
35:16in either California
35:17or Louisiana.
35:18In fact,
35:19his role as a sheriff's deputy
35:21in Louisiana
35:21was purely ceremonial,
35:23handed to him
35:23by longtime sheriff
35:24Harry Lee.
35:26Seagal has also claimed
35:27that he once helped
35:28train CIA agents,
35:29but shockingly,
35:30there's no proof
35:31of that either.
35:32What do you think
35:33about this case?
35:34Well, I mean,
35:34unfortunately,
35:35I don't have all the details.
35:37I've been a police officer.
35:38Number 10.
35:39Angelina Jolie
35:40and Brad Pitt
35:41Though Angelina Jolie
35:42and Brad Pitt
35:43would initially deny
35:44allegations of an affair,
35:46many did think
35:47it was a very big coincidence
35:48that the scandal
35:49broke out the same year
35:50that Pitt and then-wife
35:51Jennifer Aniston
35:52ultimately divorced.
35:53At least I read this
35:54in the Vanity Fair article
35:55where you were saying
35:56that maybe it's not,
35:58maybe two people,
35:59the nature of two people
36:00is not meant to be
36:01with each other forever.
36:03Well, I don't know.
36:04I'm not sure
36:05what I was talking about.
36:06Okay.
36:07Yes, but there's just
36:08so much pressure on that
36:09from day one.
36:11During the proceedings,
36:12Jolie would claim
36:13no infidelity took place
36:15and cited her father's
36:16cheating on her mother
36:17as ample deterrent.
36:19And yet,
36:19just a few months
36:20after the divorce
36:20was finalized,
36:21Jolie announced
36:22her pregnancy
36:23with Pitt's child.
36:25So, did they
36:25or didn't they?
36:27Well, in 2008,
36:28both Jolie and Pitt
36:29would refer to
36:30Mr. and Mrs. Smith
36:30as the movie
36:31where they, quote,
36:33fell in love
36:33in two separate articles.
36:35So, we guess
36:36that answers that.
36:38Hey, honey,
36:38I should probably tell you.
36:41I was married once before.
36:42Number 9.
36:43Lil' Kim
36:44Some lies
36:45can get you jail time.
36:46That's what Lil' Kim
36:47found out
36:47during a court proceeding
36:48in 2005.
36:50She told a federal
36:50grand jury
36:51that her co-manager
36:52Damian Butler
36:53and bodyguard
36:54Swift Jackson
36:55were not involved
36:56in a 2001 shootout
36:57in front of radio station
36:58Hot 97
36:59in New York.
37:00Two camps, I guess,
37:02saw each other here
37:02and there was
37:04a war of words
37:04that were on records
37:05already between
37:06Foxy and Lil' Kim.
37:07It got out of hand,
37:08words were exchanged
37:09and shots were fired.
37:10She also claimed
37:11to have not been
37:12on the scene
37:13or to know
37:13one of the suspects.
37:15But Lil' Kim
37:15ran into big problems
37:16when security footage
37:17was released
37:18showing that
37:19not only was Kim there
37:20but so were
37:21Butler and Jackson.
37:23This misrecollection
37:24earned the rapper
37:24366 days in prison,
37:2730 days house arrest
37:28and 3 years probation.
37:29I'm turning myself
37:31in to the U.S. Marshals.
37:33It still feels surreal
37:35but I gotta do
37:36what I gotta do.
37:37I thank all my fans
37:39and friends
37:40for all of their support.
37:42Number 8
37:42Paris Hilton
37:43After serving jail time,
37:45Paris Hilton
37:46appeared on Larry King Live
37:47to talk about the experience.
37:48During the interview,
37:49King asked the heiress
37:50if she'd ever taken drugs
37:51and twice she denied it,
37:54claiming all she's taken
37:55were meds for ADHD.
37:57I've been on medication
37:58since I was a child.
37:59I have ADD
38:00so I take medication
38:01for that.
38:03Just that's the only thing
38:04you do with
38:05attention deficit disorder?
38:06Yes.
38:07Photos began to pop up
38:08showing Hilton
38:09smoking the green stuff though
38:10and perpetrators
38:11of a 2008 robbery
38:12claimed to have found
38:13other narcotics
38:14in her Hollywood mansion.
38:15However,
38:16what cast the most out
38:17on Paris' drug-free claims
38:18was when she was arrested
38:19on suspicion
38:20of drug possession
38:21in 2010.
38:22A suspicion cast
38:23due to 0.8 grams
38:25of the stuff
38:25being found
38:26found in a handbag
38:26that also contained
38:27her credit cards,
38:28phone,
38:29and driver's license.
38:30Today,
38:31she admitted she lied.
38:32I was in possession
38:33as well as
38:35telling the officer
38:36that the bag was mine.
38:37Number 7.
38:38Beyoncé
38:39In a 2008 interview
38:40with Marie Claire UK,
38:42Beyoncé appeared
38:43to imply
38:43that some of the lyrics
38:44to her 2006 single
38:45Irreplaceable
38:46weren't actually aimed
38:47at Jay-Z.
38:57Prompted by an onstage claim
38:59that B wrote the song
39:00for her ladies,
39:02Neo came forward
39:02saying he had written
39:03the lyrics himself
39:04for himself.
39:06Neo went so far
39:07as to express regret
39:08for giving the song up,
39:09although he acknowledged
39:10it was better suited
39:11to a female artist.
39:12The singer also confirmed
39:13that Beyoncé rewrote
39:15the song's harmony
39:15and melody lines
39:16and thus did,
39:18in fact,
39:18earn her songwriting credit,
39:20just not for the lyrics.
39:21For her to take the song
39:22and make it hers,
39:23I didn't mind her saying
39:24I wrote this for my girls
39:25at a concert
39:26or whatever the case may be
39:27because in a way,
39:28technically,
39:29in a way,
39:29she did.
39:30You know,
39:30she put her spin on it.
39:31If you're gonna do it
39:32the exact same way I did it,
39:33you might as well
39:33let me keep it.
39:34Number 6.
39:35Steven Ranazzisi
39:36Given the profound tragedy
39:38of the September 11th attacks,
39:39it's certainly not a good idea
39:41to falsely claim
39:42to be a survivor.
39:43If only someone had told that
39:44to Steven Ranazzisi beforehand.
39:46Did you out yourself
39:48or did somebody bust you?
39:49The Times.
39:50The New York Times, yeah.
39:51The New York Times figured this out.
39:52Did you figure out
39:53how they figured out
39:54that you were lying
39:55about your experience
39:56during 9-11?
39:57Did you ever figure out
39:57how they busted you?
39:58No, no, I don't.
39:59The comedian and actor
40:00had previously described
40:01working as an account manager
40:02at Merrill Lynch
40:03in the South Tower
40:04on that fateful day.
40:05He claimed to have
40:06narrowly escaped the building
40:08shortly before
40:09the second plane hit,
40:10citing the experience
40:11as his motivation
40:12to move to Los Angeles
40:13to pursue an entertainment career.
40:15However,
40:16a New York Times investigation
40:17proved that it was all
40:18a bold-faced lie.
40:20Not only did Ranazzisi
40:21never work for Merrill Lynch,
40:23the company didn't even have
40:25offices in either tower
40:26at the time.
40:27but I truly,
40:28in all of my heart,
40:29wished that I had
40:31that voice
40:31that I feel like I have now
40:33that said,
40:33hey man,
40:34take a breath,
40:35relax.
40:36People are going to like you.
40:37People are going to understand
40:38who you are
40:39when they get to know you.
40:40You don't need to lie about that.
40:41Take that back.
40:42Number five,
40:43Milli Vanilli.
40:44They certainly can't blame
40:45this one on the rain.
40:46Blame it on the rain.
40:49Yeah, yeah.
40:51Milli Vanilli was hot
40:53in the late 80s,
40:53but soon after,
40:55their lip-syncing facade
40:56began to crack.
40:57Charles Shaw,
40:58one of the actual singers,
41:00came forward in 1989
41:01and revealed he was
41:03one of three vocalists
41:04who recorded the tracks.
41:05As the vocals were attributed
41:07to Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus,
41:09things got messy fast.
41:11Morvan and Pilatus
41:12had to ultimately
41:13relinquish their Grammy
41:14and lawsuits were sprung on them
41:16and Arista Records,
41:18citing consumer fraud
41:19protection laws.
41:20While Morvan recovered
41:21from the humiliation,
41:22Pilatus did not,
41:24as he grappled
41:25with substance use disorder
41:26until his death in 1998.
41:28But with us,
41:29it went from one day
41:31to the next.
41:32We lost the fame.
41:34We were pushed aside,
41:35suddenly.
41:36And you had to live with that.
41:37Number four,
41:38Kim Kardashian.
41:40In 2007,
41:41when Kim Kardashian
41:41was only semi-famous,
41:43rumors emerged
41:44about a sex tape
41:45made by her
41:46and her ex,
41:47Ray J.
41:47Whatever we did
41:48in our private time
41:49was our private time.
41:51and never once
41:52did we think
41:52that it would get out.
41:53In an interview
41:54with Complex Magazine,
41:55she publicly denied
41:56that any sex tape
41:58was made.
41:59Even worse,
42:00she denied it
42:00to her then-boyfriend,
42:01Nick Cannon.
42:02When the tape
42:03finally did get leaked,
42:04Nick called it quits,
42:06saying it was mostly
42:07the deception
42:07that pushed him away.
42:08Despite claiming
42:09she wouldn't release
42:10a sex tape
42:11for any amount of money,
42:12Kim is reported
42:13to have settled
42:13for a $5 million payout
42:15from Vivid Entertainment
42:16and has long-battled
42:18armchair speculation
42:19that she herself
42:20was directly involved
42:22in the leak.
42:22You know there are people
42:23who say that
42:23you put it out yourself.
42:24You know that.
42:25Yeah.
42:26And, you know,
42:27I think why would anyone
42:28put that humiliation
42:30on their family
42:31like that?
42:33Number 3.
42:34Jussie Smollett.
42:35One of the most
42:36confounding celebrity lies
42:37ever told
42:38remains that
42:39involving actor
42:39Jussie Smollett.
42:41In January 2019,
42:43Smollett made headlines
42:44after claiming
42:44to have been
42:45the victim
42:45of a hate crime
42:46in Chicago.
42:47I was just jumped
42:47and then I looked down
42:49and I see that
42:50there's a rope
42:50around my neck,
42:51which I hadn't
42:52obviously noticed it
42:53before.
42:54No, because it was so fast.
42:55You know what I'm saying?
42:55It was so fast.
42:56How long did this all
42:57take?
42:58It felt like minutes
42:59but it probably
42:59was like 30 seconds.
43:01Smollett alleged
43:02that he was attacked
43:03by two individuals
43:04who hurled homophobic
43:05and racial slurs,
43:06doused him
43:07with an unknown
43:08chemical substance
43:08and placed a noose
43:10around his neck.
43:11The news sent shockwaves
43:12throughout the country
43:13with many high-profile figures
43:15expressing their support.
43:16But as the Chicago PD
43:17investigated the incident,
43:19several inconsistencies
43:20in Smollett's story emerged.
43:22That was because
43:23it was all staged.
43:24Smollett was subsequently
43:26convicted of felony
43:27disorderly conduct
43:28for lying to the police,
43:29effectively derailing
43:30his career.
43:31This was planned.
43:33This was premeditated.
43:34Premeditated the extreme.
43:36They idolized you
43:37and they would have done
43:37anything for you
43:38and you chose them
43:39because you knew
43:40that you could trust them,
43:42that they were loyal to you.
43:43Number two,
43:43Brian Williams.
43:45In 2003,
43:46while on assignment
43:47in Iraq,
43:48Brian Williams
43:48was traveling
43:49on a military Chinook
43:50helicopter
43:50when the chopper ahead
43:52was hit by RPG fire.
43:53On the ground,
43:54we learned the Chinook
43:55ahead of us
43:56was almost blown
43:57out of the sky.
43:58That hole was made
44:00by a rocket-propelled grenade
44:02or RPG.
44:03Williams reported a story
44:05to this effect at the time,
44:06but as the years passed,
44:08the story morphed
44:09until he was no longer
44:10a mere witness,
44:11but a victim of the attack.
44:13Williams chalked up
44:14the mistelling
44:14as a bungled attempt
44:16to thank a vet
44:17involved in the incident,
44:18an explanation
44:19that seemingly overlooked
44:20his past reimaginings
44:21of the event.
44:22I want to apologize.
44:23I said I was traveling
44:25in an aircraft
44:26that was hit by RPG fire.
44:27I was instead
44:29in a following aircraft.
44:31The fallout
44:32was a six-month suspension
44:33from NBC Nightly News
44:35and a serious blow
44:36to his professional reputation.

44:55Number 1.
44:56Lance Armstrong.
44:57Cancer survivor
44:58and Tour de France champion
44:59Lance Armstrong
45:00always maintained
45:01that his legacy
45:02was drug-free.
45:03For seven straight years,
45:04he dominated arguably
45:06the hardest sporting event
45:07in the world.
45:08History in the making,
45:09seven times a winner
45:10of the Tour de France.
45:11Around him grew an empire
45:12that included
45:13a powerful foundation
45:14dedicated to fighting cancer.
45:16But in 2012,
45:17after years of denying
45:18charges to the contrary,
45:20the U.S. anti-doping agency
45:21determined that was a lie.
45:23By October of that year,
45:25Armstrong had forfeited prizes
45:27and awards dating back
45:28to 1998.
45:30He was stripped
45:30of all seven Tour de France titles
45:32and he was banned for life
45:34from Olympic sports.
45:36The IOC would later delete
45:37Armstrong's Olympic results
45:38and take back his bronze medal.
45:40I'd love to,
45:41we'd all love to go back in life
45:42and have a few do-overs.
45:44Yep.
45:46Never should have taken it on,
45:47especially knowing that,
45:49that most of what they said
45:51was true.
45:52Additionally,
45:53he was forced out of the foundation
45:54that once carried his name,
45:56lost multiple sponsorships,
45:57and even saw the episodes
45:59of Arthur he appeared in
46:00be banned.
46:01All due to this one
46:02massive,
46:03long-running lie.
46:05Did you ever see
46:06these lies coming?
46:07Tell us in the comments section.
46:08Your very name
46:09has become an adverb
46:10for lying.
46:12And thank you
