00:00My biggest regret is letting other people down and now I want to prove to the world that I've
00:08changed. Welcome to WatchMojo and today we're looking at celebrities whose already negative
00:13reputation led to a cathartic comeuppance. Clearly this is a blow for Prince Andrew
00:18and this is a major fall from grace. Timothee Chalamet at the Oscars. Not today Chalamet!
00:26As a presumptive front-runner for the Best Actor category for his titular role in Marty
00:30Supreme, Chalamet's already fairly large ego had inflated throughout awards season. His
00:35unbecoming attitude culminated in the now notorious town hall interview in which he dissed theater
00:40arts, a comment that rubbed many fans and fellow artists the wrong way.
00:44I don't want to be working in ballet or opera or you know things where it's like hey keep
00:49this thing alive even though it's like no one cares about this anymore. At the Oscars,
00:53Kona made an early jab at Chalamet's anti-opera and ballet sentiments, clearly mocking the absurdity
00:58of his beliefs. Security is extremely tight tonight. Just gotta mention that, yeah. I'm told there's
01:04concerns about attacks from both the opera and ballet communities. When he left the ceremony
01:11empty-handed, many felt he was knocked down a few deserved pegs. All respect to the ballet
01:16and opera people out there. I just lost 14 cents in viewership.
01:20Humbling Hugh Grant. The talent and charm of actor Hugh Grant were all the more impressive for his
01:25off-camera reputation during the 90s.
01:27I was under pressure, I was overtired or I was lonely or I fell down the stairs when I was
01:32a child or whatever.
01:40Behind the public image of a mild-mannered pretty boy was a smug, short-tempered cynic. The wholesome
01:46facade humiliatingly collapsed during the press tour for 1995's Nine Months when Grant was arrested
01:52with a sex worker in Los Angeles. What the hell were you thinking? His relationship with Elizabeth Hurley
01:59intensified the tabloid scrutiny of this rom-com sweetheart. Since then, Grant has become more
02:04open about his disdain towards showbiz and the unflattering anecdotes about his character.
02:08I think you know in life, uh, pretty much what's a good thing to do and what's a bad thing
02:13and, um,
02:14I did a bad thing and there you have it. He's even boosted his on-screen reputation by embracing more
02:19uncouth lead and villain roles. Perhaps he needed that humbling, though it reportedly didn't make him any nicer.
02:24The second the movie came out and was a hit, the offers just kept pouring in.
02:30Yeah, well, that's right. That seems to be the Hollywood way. As long as you make money,
02:33they don't care what you get up to. Lizzo's Lawsuit
02:42The unapologetic attitude is what turned Lizzo from a pop sensation into an empowering icon. It's
02:47reportedly less inspiring to work with. The singer has been embroiled in a lot of public and legal drama,
02:52including being sued by a Postmates courier she accused of stealing her food on social media.
02:57Two lawsuits filed in 2023 by former employees hit particularly hard, though,
03:02with allegations of workplace harassment and bigotry that painted Lizzo as a hypocrite.
03:07I know it's alarming to hear that Lizzo, a plus-sized woman who preaches body positivity,
03:13would be fatphobic, essentially. But I want to challenge people to understand that, you know,
03:23hurt people hurt people. She has denied these claims and courted further controversy by attributing
03:28backlash to hypersensitivity in the public. Whether Lizzo has indeed pushed her diva brand too far,
03:33this scandal has made it harder to root for her. The actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin
03:47were both beloved for their wholesome images until 2019. Then, in a scandal that sounded more like
03:53Desperate Housewives than Full House, Operation Varsity Blues implicated them in a conspiracy to
03:58bribe their daughters into the University of Southern California. The massive trial exemplified
04:03public perceptions about the hubris of social elites. In court, Huffman told the judge, her voice
04:08shaking, I'm deeply sorry, I've inflicted more damage than I could ever imagine. She said her
04:13daughter told her, I don't know who you are anymore. Huffman didn't help her case with the court of
04:17public opinion when she claimed that the scheme was the best way to give her daughter a chance at
04:21a future. At least she pleaded guilty sooner than the inappropriately strong-willed Loughlin.
04:25Some found catharsis in these and other wealthy conspirators disgrace, though the relatively
04:30meager fines and prison sentences hardly felt like justice. In a statement released after
04:36sentencing, Huffman said, I accept the court's decision today without reservations. There are
04:41no excuses or justifications for my actions, period. Russell Brand's unsurprising warning.
04:47While comedy and an even wilder personal life have always made Russell Brand a divisive figure,
04:52after alienating one wing of the political spectrum by becoming a left-wing commentator,
04:57he began shifting rhetoric more toward the right during the 2020s. Finally, in 23,
05:02he tried to ingratiate the public by addressing both his dark past and a conspiracy theory.
05:07The day before the release of an article in which five women accused him of abuse,
05:11Brand took to social media to preemptively deny the allegations.
05:14Russell Brand, the comedian and actor, was charged with five counts in relation to four alleged
05:21victims. It was really a reminder that many people have accused him of predatory behavior for years.
05:26Whether he's truly guilty, Brand's already polarizing reputation had folded by the time
05:31criminal charges came in 2025. There's no way I ain't getting laid after the show tonight!
05:36TJ Miller's arrest. It turned out comedian and actor TJ Miller's abrasive persona wasn't just an act.
05:53In 2016, he got into a political argument with an Uber driver that ended with him being charged with
05:58assault. This was just the first exposure of the open secret about Miller's difficulty,
06:03particularly on the set of HBO's Silicon Valley. His firing from the show a year later preceded
06:08revelations of on-set tension and an accusation of committing sexual assault in college.
06:13Miller slammed Silicon Valley, called the allegation of an addictive lie,
06:18and attributed making a false bomb report in 2021 to mental illness.
06:21TJ Miller is under arrest accused of calling in a fake bomb threat.
06:26With all these scandals and no sign of accountability,
06:29Miller's smugness on the screen has gotten much less endearing.
06:32An organic sort of out arose, they had a cliffhanger, and I thought it would be funny just to exit.
06:38Kanye West goes south. Being a titan of hip-hop evidently went to Kanye West's head. He has
06:43gradually become very outspoken about topics, ranging from politics to Beyoncé deserving a
06:48video music award over Taylor Swift. As his views gradually became more outrageous,
06:53West boasted about his career being invincible. He finally went too far by peddling anti-Semitic
06:58conspiracy theories and explicitly identifying as a Nazi in 2022. He lost so many endorsements,
07:04representatives, and fans that his net worth ultimately took a more than $1 billion hit.
07:10As long as I breathe, I'm here for all of my artists, all of my peers, and all the people.
07:16West has since become more fickle in his statements, including on mental health issues that have been
07:20partly linked to his behavior. There's still no excuse for certain ways he's used his dwindling power.
07:25We're all worried about Kanye, but at this point we're all also angry and offended and hurt.
07:31James Corden gets banned. British comedic actor and singer James Corden made his name in America
07:36as a nice guy. A lot of people didn't buy it, especially with his sometimes abrasive antics as
07:41host of The Late Late Show. I really couldn't be more honored to be stood here talking to you now,
07:47and believe me, however shocked you are that I am doing this job, you will never be as shocked as
07:52I am.
07:53Corden was able to sneak away from harassment allegations during a Reddit Q&A in 2019.
07:57Then the tabloids reported his ban from the New York restaurant Balthazar over abuse of a waiter in
08:022022. The restaurant manager and the server, they were lovely. They were lovely. They brought out
08:07four glasses of champagne as an apology, but we were like, that's not necessary. We don't need it.
08:12We'd had a great time. Even for me, it was too early to start drinking. Further stories of behind
08:17the scenes drama follow Corden's announcement that he would be leaving his talk show in pursuit of other
08:22projects, but with those projects being limited by the controversy, not many people were sad to see
08:26Corden go. Kevin Spacey gets himself cancelled. Perhaps being hailed as one of the greatest
08:43actors in Hollywood should have afforded Kevin Spacey some ego, but that should have been humbled
08:47in 2017 when actor Anthony Rapp came forward with accusations of sexual misconduct when he was a
08:52minor. In a responding statement, Spacey came out as gay. Spacey made sexual advances toward him after
08:59a party when they were both on Broadway. Spacey was 26. This would-be triumphant breakthrough was
09:04condemned as an offensive deflection of the allegation. As several more quickly followed,
09:09Spacey was fired from all of his projects and effectively blacklisted. The occasional bizarre
09:14statement or interview in his defense has been the most we've seen of him since. Though Spacey
09:18has never been convicted, his flippancy on the matter is alienating enough.
09:22After that, my guess is you'll never hear from him again.
09:27Ellen DeGeneres retires
09:28For almost 20 years, comedian and talk show host Ellen DeGeneres was thought to be the nicest
09:34person on daytime TV. Apparently, nobody thought to ask her staff before Kevin T. Porter requested
09:39negative stories on Twitter in 2020. The ensuing comment thread presented DeGeneres as a tyrant
09:45who abused her employees and enabled a toxic work environment.
09:48As a host, she's amazing. As a host. But as a boss and someone who's behind the scenes running the
09:55show,
09:55she's a different person. She's not the person people see in front of the camera.
09:59She accepted responsibility amid a formal studio investigation that aimed to change the culture
10:04of the Ellen DeGeneres show. The host instead announced that the 2021-22 season would be the
10:09last. Since this disappointing end to a seemingly uplifting program, DeGeneres has usually gotten
10:15media attention for exemplifying elitism at its most unlikable.
10:18Oh yeah, I got kicked out of show business.
10:21Ryan Lochte's robbery hoax
10:23Heavy is the head that wears 12 Olympic medals under its chin. Champion swimmer Ryan Lochte's affable
10:29personality was often overshadowed by his lavish lifestyle. After winning gold at the Rio
10:34de Janeiro games in 2016, he reported being humbled when fake police officers robbed him at gunpoint.
10:49However, it was soon revealed that he actually paid off security guards after vandalizing a gas
10:54station during a night of partying. Now, two of the quartet of swimmers in this now infamous video
10:59blaming Lochte for inflaming a standoff that had them hauled into two police stations in Rio.
11:06Lochtegate, as the scandal was called, jeopardized the reputation of both Brazil and American tourists.
11:12It certainly destroyed Lochte's reputation as sponsors fled the sinking ship of charm to his
11:16bumbling public image. He ended his stellar athletic career a few years later with little fanfare.
11:22Lochte had released his own tepid apology on Friday for, quote,
11:25not being more careful and candid in how I described the events.
11:29Fan Bingbing's taxes. Once China's highest paid celebrity, actress Fan Bingbing was renowned by
11:35most as an icon of fashion and glamour. For some though, her luxurious image merely represented elitism
11:41with no self-awareness. Fan's rude awakening came in 2018, when it was revealed that she and her
11:47company owed the equivalent of 129 million US dollars in evaded taxes. Fan has been missing
11:53since July 1st, and today China's state administration of taxation has fined the celebrity
11:58129 million dollars for tax evasion. She paid off her debt, but her career in the Chinese
12:04entertainment industry was effectively finished. Her corruption was considered a gross betrayal of
12:09the nation's socialist ideals, sparking public scrutiny of whether celebrity culture in general
12:14undermined it. Fan's success in the international film industry surely pales in comparison
12:19to the gaudy career she tarnished back home.
12:21Today I'm facing enormous fears and worries over the mistakes I made. I have failed the country,
12:28society's support and trust, and the love of my devoted fans. I beg for everyone's forgiveness.
12:33Ezra Miller's trial by social media The intensity with which Ezra Miller portrayed
12:47dark character is one consistent acclaim. Their own dark character received a different reception,
12:52as disturbing statements and incidents circulated social media in the early 2020s.
12:57This peaked in 22, with an on-camera assault, other criminal charges, and claims of divinity.
13:02Miller's most embarrassing episode was leaked police body cam footage of their arrest for
13:07a bar fight in Hawaii. Their grandiose babbling throughout the video exemplified this worrying,
13:13violent decline.
13:14I claim my 9th amendment rights to not be unlawfully persecuted for a crime of no designation,
13:22disorderly conduct being something I am unguilty of.
13:25Miller subsequently put out a statement saying that they're seeking treatment for complex mental health
13:29issues. Whether Miller stepped or was forced out of the limelight, it may be the best thing for them
13:34at this point.
13:35I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed
13:41to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in my life.
13:46Chevy Chase gets chased away.
13:48Don't shoot me.
13:49Great. Now shoot him.
13:51Sure, shoot me.
13:53You'd certainly be doing Jeff Winger a big favor.
13:56It was never a secret that one of the most beloved comedic actors of his time
13:59wasn't much fun to work with.
14:01Chevy Chase's long history of hostility toward colleagues and fans was tolerated up to a gradual
14:07career dip in the 2000s. The acclaimed NBC sitcom community was meant to be his big comeback,
14:12but Chase didn't just draw on his past to play the mean and politically incorrect Pierce Hawthorne.
14:17He was fired after season 3 over on-set misconduct that allegedly involved a racial slur.
14:22This prompted Chase to issue an all-too-rare apology to the cast and crew.
14:34Otherwise, he refuses to apologize for his ego, no matter the impact on his career and legacy.
14:40Lance Armstrong runs out of juice.
14:42The historic accolades of pro cyclist Lance Armstrong made it hard to criticize his inflated
14:47persona. When his winning streak at the Tour de France did receive criticism, his response was,
14:52I'm sorry you don't believe in miracles, but a 2012 investigation found that his triumph was
15:00part miracle, part performance-enhancing substances. There was even evidence of his involvement in a
15:05full-on ring. Armstrong's claim that he stopped doping after 2005 and that he did it by himself
15:11was also disputed.
15:12Yes or no, did you ever take banned substances to enhance your cycling performance?
15:17Yes.
15:18Even in this most humbling moment, the public perceived him as playing the victim with no
15:23true remorse for violating the integrity of his sport. Armstrong was subsequently stripped of his
15:27honors and endorsements and retired in disgrace.
15:30The disgraced American cyclist Lance Armstrong has been stripped of all seven of his Tour de France titles and
15:35banned from cycling for life. Conor McGregor's legal battles.
15:39Where I come from and where I grew up, you had to be aware, you had to be able to
15:43defend yourselves.
15:43Outside of the octagon, mixed martial arts icon Conor McGregor's brutishness is much less impressive.
15:49He's long been criticized for his inflammatory comments, antics, and lifestyle, as well as
15:55condemned for hostilities that regularly get violent and bigoted. Never mind the series of
15:59high-profile assault charges going back to his 2018 attack on a busload of fellow fighters.
16:08Particularly infamous were the lawsuits for sexual assault in Dublin and Miami. The American case was
16:14dropped, but the Irish High Court ordered him to pay almost €250,000 in damages in 2024. As McGregor's
16:21public and professional brands then fell apart, he offered no half-hearted apologies this time.
16:26He instead announced that he'd be going into politics.
16:29If that bus door had opened, this man would be dead right now. He would be in a box, and
16:34I would be in a
16:35cell, and we would not have this great fight ahead of us.
16:39Burning Sun sets on Seung-hee Lee Seung-hee was always the bad boy of Big Bang, under the stage
16:46name Seung-hee.
16:47As charming as it was when he was a teen idol, the brand took a darker turn with other ventures.
16:52The so-called a great Gatsby of K-pop emphasized materialism in his solo career and entrepreneurship,
16:58which included nightlife investments. Among them was the Gundam club of Burning Sun,
17:03where a patient was reportedly attacked by staff for disrupting his sexual assault in 2018.
17:07The victory was used as a tool to invest in women's power to invest in their power.
17:16An investigation the following year implicated Seung-hee in arranging sex workers,
17:20cover-ups, and embezzlement. The scandal not only ensnared many powerful people,
17:25but sparked public discussion about misogyny and corruption in South Korea's entertainment industry.
17:30Seung-hee was released from prison in 2023 as a national disgrace.
17:41Steven Seagal sued for discrimination. Early in Steven Seagal's acting career,
17:45the public knew him as an enigmatic and charismatic action star.
17:49His colleagues felt that the public didn't want to know much more than that.
17:52I know a little why. I know a little of that stuff myself.
17:56Yeah, that's what I hear. Usually from you, but that's what I hear.
17:59As difficult as Seagal has always been to work with, Sheryl Schumann sued him in 1995
18:04over a hostile work environment that included quid pro quos for women. A settlement out of court
18:09didn't stop audiences from reevaluating previous harassment allegations and payoffs.
18:14Several other women have accused Seagal of inappropriate behavior, including Juliana Margulies,
18:20Jenny McCarthy, Portia de Rossi, and Inside Edition's Lisa Guerrero when she was an aspiring actress.
18:26And after this contributed to a string of box office disappointments, Seagal became largely
18:30relegated to straight-to-video work in the 2000s. Still, he continued to face serious complaints that
18:35he refused to accept responsibility for. Now the public mostly associates Seagal's imposing
18:40persona with behind the scenes cruelty. Prince Andrew dethroned. The former Prince Andrew,
18:45Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has this morning been arrested on the Sandringham estate where
18:50he was living after having been removed, of course, from the home he was living in Windsor.
18:55For as long as there's been royalty, there's been dire consequences for their hubris. The largely
19:00inconsequential duties of the modern British Crown include representing dignity and decency as the
19:05highest celebrities. Prince Andrew, Duke of York, was a mildly scandalous outsider until the 2019
19:22revelation that his American friend, Jeffrey Epstein, ran a human trafficking ring.
19:27Did you trust him? Yes, I think I probably did. But again, I don't go into a friendship looking for
19:41the wrong thing. When Newsnight interviewed Andrew about his photo with accuser,
19:45Virginia Giuffre, the public condemned his callousness and heavily disputed story.
19:50At the time, there was no indication to me or anybody else that that was what he was doing.
20:00He was then stripped of his duties and honors over the next several years. Then, in 2026,
20:05he was charged with misconduct in public office. Andrew's downfall thus raises concerns about
20:10monarchy's relations to modern laws and whether conducting themselves as untouchable just makes
20:15matters worse. Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. His lease on Royal
20:21Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence. Formal notice
20:26has now been served to surrender the lease and he will move to alternative private accommodation.
20:32Sean Combs' comeuppance. Music mogul Sean Diddy Combs facing more time behind bars.
20:37His release date pushed back to June of 2028 instead of May of that same year.
20:42The news coming after reports of Combs drinking in prison, something he denies after he was accepted
20:48into a rehab program in prison that could have reduced his sentence by up to a year.
20:52From Puff Daddy to Diddy, Sean Combs' brand has evolved alongside modern hip-hop.
20:57So too has his reputation as a cocky rapper who became a powerhouse mogul with a notorious god complex.
21:04Sean Combs' celebrity parties were legendary, lavish affairs.
21:08Sean Combs' glamorous spectacles for the elite. Which, for this billionaire music mogul,
21:16had also served as window dressing to his allegedly dark, sinister world. Until the veil was lifted.
21:24His untouchable image was fed by him surviving many allegations, ranging from exploitative business
21:29practices to severe abuse.
21:31It's the hotel invoices, the travel arrangements, the receipts for damages paid to the hotel rooms,
21:40the arranging of male escorts and booking them with cowboys for angels. All of these things that it took
21:47to arrange these sexual performances.
21:50Finally, in 2024, a homeland security raid led to multiple criminal charges and lawsuits.
21:56The bad boy records head was accused of not only being a brutal tyrant, but a serial abuser and
22:01predator. He was ultimately sentenced to four years in prison in 2025.
22:05Though Combs is accused of much more than transporting sex workers, the death of his career
22:10shows how even the biggest celebrity egos can be deflated.
22:13Sean Diddy Combs was just sentenced to more than four years in prison.
22:17The 55-year-old was convicted back in July on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
22:25Combs had pleaded not guilty to all charges and was acquitted of two more serious charges,
22:30sex trafficking and racketeering, which would have led to a potential life sentence.
22:34Who are some other stars who experienced a just downfall?
