00:00The letters were not written to question the legitimacy of the judicial system.
00:04Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the worst mistakes and lies
00:08made by celebrities, leading to their secret or crime being exposed publicly.
00:12Many of you in this room are my friends.
00:18Number 10. Forgetting About Security Cams.
00:20In 2001, Lil' Kim and her rap group, Junior Mafia, were leaving the Hot 97 studios in Manhattan,
00:26New York, after being guests. However, rival group Capone and Noriega turned up to also be on the
00:32station. Last stop on the tour was in New York at Hot 97. Hot 97 was promoting the beef on air.
00:38A shootout soon erupted, with one person getting injured. Kim testified in court that her ex-manager,
00:44Damian Butler, wasn't there, and she didn't know Sue F. Jackson. However, after both Jackson and
00:49Butler confessed they were there, CCTV footage also showed Kim with them in a limo.
00:53Anyone who knows Lil' Kim knows that I have hurdled some obstacles.
00:58As such, she was charged with perjury and admitted to her lie. In 2005, after being found guilty,
01:04she was sentenced to a year in jail.
01:06I'm going away. I'm turning myself in to the U.S. Marshals. It still feels surreal,
01:13but I gotta do what I gotta do.
01:16Number 9. Forgetting to Switch Accounts.
01:18Have you ever sent a praise-filled comment to your social media from another account?
01:22No? Yeah, nor us. However, seemingly, that's exactly what Madison Pruitt did in 2020.
01:28I don't, like, I don't want to tell you, like, yes or no, I just...
01:30Shortly after season 24 of The Bachelor aired, in which she was involved,
01:33she posted an image of herself on a date with Peter Weber. However, in the comments,
01:37she also messaged praise to herself for being genuine and real.
01:41For me, like, actions speak louder than words, and...
01:43Oh, the irony. Immediately, the mockery began online, and accusations that Pruitt was running her own
01:49fan account. This didn't help when one such account blamed the issue on Pruitt's sister.
01:53Shortly after the drama, a friend claimed responsibility for the message.
01:57They stated they'd accidentally logged into Pruitt's account, but some don't believe that explanation.
02:01Okay.
02:02Number 8. Creating a Fake Athletic Profile.
02:16The problem with pretending that you're an athletic prodigy to get into a U.S. college is that,
02:20eventually, someone will discover your sporting abilities are perhaps not that great.
02:24Operation Varsity Blues, the massive sting exposing the ugly truth that admission to college
02:31can be bought, bartered, and stolen for some.
02:35In 2019, the Varsity Blues scandal broke, which had affluent parents bribing and paying to inflate
02:41students' exam scores to secure places in prestigious colleges. One family involved was
02:45Lori Loughlin and Mosimo Giannulli, who pretended their kids, Olivia Jade and Isabella Giannulli,
02:51were rowing extraordinaires, despite having no interest in the sport.
02:54This is evidence that the government has had from the beginning.
02:57This is evidence that the defendants have known the government has from the beginning.
03:00The duo even took photos on an indoor rowing machine. After splashing $500,000 in bribes,
03:06the deception was discovered, and Loughlin and Giannulli were charged.
03:09In 2020, Loughlin was sentenced to two months in jail, while Giannulli received five months.
03:14I got this.
03:16Yeah, got the blue flag. We can drive anywhere. We can even drive right up to the green.
03:20Wait a second. You gotta have a doctor's note to get one of those.
03:24Oh, yeah. Well, I have Epstein-Barr.
03:27You have Epstein-Barr?
03:29One hematologist thinks so.
03:30Number seven, White Lye Powder.
03:33Following her release from jail for breaking probation or a DUI sentence,
03:36Paris Hilton was interviewed on Larry King Live in 2007.
03:39You know, I've been confined for three and a half weeks in a little cell, so
03:45it's just overwhelming just to be out and be free again.
03:49During it, she stated that she doesn't take any substances beyond her ADHD medication.
03:54However, a month after that, Hilton was seen seemingly smoking the devil's lettuce.
03:58In 2010, after she was a victim of the Bling Ring robbery,
04:01the thieves claimed they found illegal substances at her home.
04:04That same year, Hilton was arrested for possession.
04:06Hilton was booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
04:09This is her mugshot released by the Las Vegas Metro Police.
04:12After first denying it was hers, Hilton agreed to a plea bargain.
04:15She got a year of probation and 200 hours of community service.
04:18These incidents led many to doubt her previous claims to King.
04:21So you have now become used to the fact that you have no privacy?
04:26Yeah, I think it definitely comes with the territory.
04:28Number six, Using Stock Photos.
04:31Like many celebrities with mountains of cash,
04:33rapper Bow Wow wanted to show off his departure to New York in a private jet on Instagram in 2017.
04:39However, something fishy was going on when someone took a photo of him,
04:42claiming they saw him on their non-private plane.
04:44Then we see this post.
04:46This is a user on Snapchat.
04:48That's Bow Wow right there.
04:49And he writes, so this guy, Lil Bow Wow, is on my flight to New York.
04:53But on Instagram, he posted a picture of a private jet captioned,
04:56traveling to New York today, shaking my head.
04:59Internet sleuths soon discovered Bow Wow had taken the image of the luxury jet
05:03from the website of a Florida transportation company,
05:05which was also used as a stock image.
05:07But Bow Wow added a filter to make it less obvious.
05:09Oh, you just posted a picture you like?
05:11Yeah.
05:12Well, what the hell, what the hell's the problem?
05:14Because the way it looked, it looked as if I was taking the big boy jet going to New York,
05:18and really I was on Delta, first class.
05:20This sparked the internet to mock the rapper,
05:23creating the hashtag Bow Wow challenge,
05:25where users would post jokey, deceitful photos of their affluent wealth online.
05:29Antonio posts this, my new ride at the car wash,
05:32but look at the close-up here, that's just a toy car in the shower.
05:34And Patrice writes, with my man, but as you can plainly see here, you get a better look.
05:41There's no man there.
05:43Number 5. Forgetting other people exist.
05:46If you're going to lie about a situation,
05:48it's best not to select a scenario that's easily researched
05:50and involves several other people who could tell the truth.
05:53Our traveling NBC News team was rescued, surrounded, and kept alive
05:57by an armored mechanized platoon from the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry.
06:01Unfortunately for news anchor Brian Williams, he didn't consider this.
06:04Over the years, his version of riding in a helicopter in 2003 during the Iraq War
06:09became more and more extreme,
06:10eventually arriving at his aircraft being forced down after being hit by an RPG.
06:15However, when soldiers who were in a chopper that was fired upon disputed this,
06:18claiming Williams' helicopter landed due to a sandstorm,
06:21the truth was finally discovered.
06:22He talked about the Bradley 3rd ID guys coming in,
06:25they were a great help, but they didn't show up until almost a day and a half later.
06:28The anchor was suspended by NBC,
06:30eventually returning with a demotion to MSNBC
06:33until leaving the network in 2021.
06:35This was a bungled attempt by me to thank one special veteran,
06:40and by extension, our brave military men and women,
06:43veterans everywhere, those who have served while I did not.
06:46I hope they know they have my greatest respect,
06:49and also now my apology.
06:51Number 4. Forgetting the Internet Exists.
06:54When Hilaria Baldwin first came to prominence due to her marriage to actor Alec,
06:58everyone believed she was Spanish.
07:00How's married life?
07:01Married life is really nice.
07:03After all, she spoke with an accent.
07:05She stated at the United Nations that she was half Spanish
07:07and forgot the English word for cucumber when cooking on TV.
07:11We have tomatoes,
07:12we have, um,
07:14what do you say?
07:15Cucumber?
07:15Cucumbers.
07:16However,
07:17her accent seemed to change occasionally.
07:19In 2020,
07:19accusations that Baldwin had been lying about her heritage
07:22came out as people began researching her online.
07:25And in a 2018 cover story with Ola magazine,
07:28the magazine reported Hilaria,
07:30who was born in Spain,
07:32has made certain to raise her children with her native language,
07:35Spanish.
07:36But newly unearthed photos show Hilaria as a high school student
07:39at the Swanky Cambridge School in Weston, Massachusetts.
07:42They found that she wasn't born in Mallorca, Spain,
07:45but Boston, Massachusetts,
07:47as Hillary,
07:47not Hilaria,
07:48and was raised there.
07:49Instead,
07:50her family would visit the European country for vacations.
07:53Baldwin has defended her appropriation,
07:55saying that she's culturally fluid.
07:56Personally,
07:57I believe when you go through something difficult,
07:59the sooner that you make it real,
08:00the sooner you can do something with it.
08:03Number three,
08:04not realizing a business's address.
08:06In 2009,
08:07Steven Ranazzisi was a guest on the podcast WTF with Marc Maron,
08:11where he disclosed some shocking backstory.
08:13He stated he was working at the offices of investment firm Merrill Lynch,
08:16which were based on the 54th floor of New York City's World Trade Center
08:19on September 11th, 2001,
08:21the day of the attacks.
08:23And then it just,
08:23bang,
08:25while you were standing right there.
08:26While it was like underneath that giant overpass that was...
08:28And all your co-workers were upstairs?
08:30Yeah.
08:31Ranazzisi managed to get to the streets before the second airplane struck.
08:34He told this story many times over the years.
08:36However,
08:37there were massive holes in his tail.
08:38Merrill Lynch didn't have an office in the building,
08:40and he was never employed by them.
08:42In 2015,
08:43the lie was exposed by journalists,
08:45leading to Ranazzisi apologizing
08:46and struggling to find acting work since.
08:49That's something that I will have to live with and grow beyond.
08:54Number two,
08:55recklessly crashing a car.
08:56In 2009,
08:57golfing legend Tiger Woods experienced how reckless driving sparked a domino effect
09:01that led to him being involved in one of the biggest celebrity love scandals ever.
09:05We're learning new details about the heart-pounding first moments after the Tiger Woods crash.
09:10Days after reports of Woods having an affair leaked,
09:13he crashed his car near his Florida home.
09:15The golfer dismissed the media speculation by claiming the reason for the attack,
09:18and being ticketed for careless driving was a private matter as he withdrew from tournaments.
09:23However,
09:23within days,
09:24evidence emerged that Woods had been having affairs despite being married to Ellen Nordegren.
09:28He then admitted to the cheating,
09:34leading to the destruction of his reputation,
09:36as sponsors began pulling out of deals.
09:38Despite getting therapy and returning to golf,
09:40Woods and Nordegren unsurprisingly divorced in 2010.
09:43I ask you to find room in your heart
09:48to one day
09:50believe in me again.

10:13Number one.
10:15Letters weren't meant to be public.
10:17In 2023,
10:18actor Danny Masterson was found guilty of assaulting two women in 2003.
10:22Now, the three women in this case told the judge that Masterson's crimes had ruined their lives
10:26and asked the judge to give the actor life behind bars.
10:30Shortly before his sentencing,
10:31news leaked that destroyed the images of his That 70s show co-stars,
10:35Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis.
10:36The couple had sent a letter to the judge asking for leniency for Masterson,
10:40mentioning he was an outstanding role model.
10:42We know what he's been convicted of,
10:45and yet these people are saying he's like the best person they've ever met.
10:49Understandably, people were outraged,
10:51especially as Kutcher and Kunis were involved with non-profit group Thorne,
10:55which specializes in protecting youth from abuse.
10:57In response, the couple put out an apology video,
11:00which was accused of being insincere and performative.
11:02We are aware of the pain that has been caused by the character letters that we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson.
11:10They also mentioned the letter was for the judge,
11:12and alluded that it wasn't meant to be public.
11:14Due to the additional backlash,
11:15they both resigned from Thorne.
11:17What's the worst lie you've told that led to you being exposed?
