Russia has officially commissioned the Project 23550 ice-class patrol ship “Ivan Papanin” into its Navy. Built at the Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard, the vessel is designed to operate in extreme Arctic conditions, combining the roles of a patrol ship, icebreaker, and tug.
Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, emphasized that the project incorporates unique technical solutions with no global equivalent in shipbuilding.
With the “Ivan Papanin,” Russia strengthens its strategic presence in the Arctic, a region increasingly contested for its natural resources and maritime routes.
