The sudden death of 20-year-old Physics student Rishi Nair has shaken BITS Pilani’s Goa campus, marking the fifth student loss since December 2024.

00:08On September 4 to 8.45, second year physics student Rishi Nayar was found dead in his hostel room around 10.45am after multiple unanswered calls.
00:16As per reports, he was undergoing treatment for depression triggered by the suicide of his girlfriend a few months earlier.
00:21His parents had even relocated to Goa to support him on campus.
00:24What's more shocking here is that this tragic event is not isolated.
00:32It marks the 5th student death on campus in just 10 months, following Aum Priyan Singh in December, Atharvdesai in March, Krishna Kasera in May and Kushagra Jan in August.
00:50Each case falls largely under a cloud of mental health concerns and academic stress.
00:54In an official statement issued on 4th September 2 to 8.25, the institute said it was profoundly saddened by the tragic demise of Rishi.
01:00These consecutive deaths sparked an internal inquiry and the rollout of enhanced support.
01:04Counselling, 24-7 helplines, wellness workshops and a peer support initiative are training students to spot and respond to mental health red flags.
01:12Yet, students in Aluminai say it may not be enough.
01:15The case has also ignited political alarm.
