At Budds Beach on the Gold Coast, my toddler engages in playful learning by tossing rocks into the water and wading in to retrieve them. This repetitive activity echoes how he practiced crawling down steps as a baby, using repetition to master movement. Watch my two kids enjoy a fun time by the water, building confidence and skills through consistent play.
00:00Oh! It's actually quite rocky here, darling. Do you want to come up a little bit further up here where we were, because it's a little bit rocky here.
00:15Okay. Bye, darling. Have a bit nicer before. Oh, well done. Do you know what we're doing?
00:25This is really interesting that I've just observed that's a little bit too deep.
00:32What he's been doing is Spencer's been throwing a rock. He pulled him about here, and then he picks it up.
00:40And if it goes in too deep, he doesn't. He's not going to pick that one up.
00:45But earlier I noticed that he was putting rocks at about here, picking them up, and then throwing them again and going through that cycle.
00:54And I remember when he was practicing to go down stairs. That's what he would do.
01:00He would throw something down to the bottom of the stairs, and then practice sort of going to get it.
01:06And I actually think that's what he's been doing.
01:10I think he's been putting a rock around there, and then he goes to get it.
01:19And I think that's him sort of just practicing getting deeper and deeper.
01:24Like, I actually really do. And he used to do that with stairs as well.
01:29Wouldn't he? He'd throw something down.
01:32No, it's really interesting, darling, about how they learn.
