00:00Please welcome to the stage, the legend that is Al Pacino.
00:09Wow, well I have to follow Viola.
00:27I thought of leaving, but I'm here, and I'm going to try to fight the traffic, bring
00:38up my voice, and go home.
00:44Here we are guys, it's only us, and there is our girl, there she is, Jessica Chastain.
00:59Well a long time ago I met her, I'm going to take these off if you don't mind, I'll
01:07squint and do that kind of stuff.
01:10I just hope I don't die up here.
01:14But here I am, things happen, things happen guys.
01:19So I'm here, and I'm talking about a great friend, and a great actress.
01:29I was going to do a film called Wild Salome, or Salome, a great piece of work done by Oscar
01:37Wilde, and we were going to do it, and I needed an actress to play Salome.
01:45So I thought, whew, difficult, it's difficult.
01:49I don't like auditioning people, it upsets me for some reason.
01:54I remember my auditions, and I just can't, I just can't, I don't like it.
02:01So, but I did it, I had to, I went over to the Actors Studio in New York, and I saw a few
02:10people who I thought were really good, I mean, they deserve any part they get, because they
02:18were wonderful, gifted actresses, and I didn't know what I was going to do.
02:22Boy, I didn't feel Salome yet, and in walks this cute little redhead girl.
02:33And I thought, well, she's redhead, and she's been recommended by Martha Keller, a friend
02:41of mine in Paris.
02:43I'm competing with this stuff.
02:47Feel something for me.
02:53Anyway, she walked in, and I said, hi, she said, I'm Jessica, yes, I've heard some words
02:59about you.
03:00I said, could you do the reading, because it was an audition, so she had to go read it,
03:08and she went up there on the mini stage, and my friend and I, Robert Fox, a very renowned
03:17English producer coming from England, who's helping to put this on, and I'm sitting there,
03:27and this young woman is about to do her thing.
03:31It's the head of John the Baptist, which she just cut off, by the way, and she speaks to
03:38reading.
03:39And this is Oscar Wilde's greatness, his words.
03:45And I'm watching, and she starts reading, or what you call acting.
03:54And I'm sitting there, and after about 30 seconds, I lean over to the producer, Robert Fox, and
04:05say I have three words.
04:08Am I dreaming?
04:18And that was it, because he said, no, Al, we're not dreaming.
04:25And I had a Salome.
04:26I hope you're not applauding this fucking truck.
04:40Okay.
04:41I guess that was what you would call an interference.
04:54But I'm here still, and she's here, being honored on the Walk of Fame.
05:05The idea is, wherever I was, I made the film Salome, which she started.
05:15And what I usually do when I make a film, I don't want to go on forever, it's so boring.
05:21I know I bore myself sometimes, so that's how I register it.
05:26But I have to say this.
05:28I mean, the film I made was in the process of being worked on.
05:35So occasionally, I would find somebody who I appreciated, whose taste I really liked, usually
05:42some director I might know, whatever, to go in, take a look at this film with me, and
05:48give me some feedback, as they call it.
05:52It was over, and they would look at me straight in the eye and say, who's the redhead?
06:02Who's this redheaded girl?
06:04I said, you just saw the film?
06:07No, we want to know who she is.
06:11She's the greatest thing since sliced bread.
06:15And I thought, yes, I know, but what about the film?
06:23Well she is, and as you know, she went on to be more and more and more.
06:30And as Viola said, she's one of the great humans.
06:35And to know her is, of course, a privilege for me.
06:39To love her is, I just recently did a film with her, just recently, I mean, a couple of
06:47hours ago, and it's called Lear Rex, and she actually lit up, and there were a lot of people
06:56in it too, and she just lit it up all the time.
07:01You just look at her and you get inspired as she just does these crazy things, these natural
07:08outrageous talent, and it's become so, I'm so joined to it and her, it's glorious.
07:20And I was going to say something, yes, that was it, and I just think she's a very sensitive
07:33person, as you can tell, she's very sensitive.
07:39And I worry that a star on a pavement with her namesake, why?
07:51People don't avoid it, they step on it, and she could feel that.
07:56I'm just afraid of that, that's all.
07:59It's just a little, ah.
08:03I see no one laughs or applauds there, they applaud and laugh here.
08:08I'm an actor, I started on the stage, I like an audience, I play to an audience, what the
08:15fuck?
08:16Yes.
08:17Yes.
08:18Who are these people?
08:19I got a smile out of a couple of them, a silent smile.
08:28You know it when you see it, you see Jessica and you know it, she's one of those.
08:35It, it, it, she's got it, you know that saying?
08:42There's a few in this room have it, I know, I see them.
08:48She has it, and I know, I can't explain what it is, and anyone would tell you, it's it.
09:00She has it, and I love it, and I love her, and I want to say I look at her now, she's
09:09still got it, she's it.
09:12I'm sorry I'm going on about this it thing, I just thought it was clever.
09:19But it isn't really, not the way I thought.
09:22This is a monologue I'm going to do again someday, you know.
09:25Are we doing this tomorrow?
09:27I got some changes to make.
09:29Well, I'm an actor, and I always will be, but she is a genius.
09:34And I worked with her on the stage, and night after night her outrageous talent would show
09:41itself, her magic would show itself, and she's here now with all of it.
09:47I'm going to talk forever, so I'm going to invite her up here.
09:50I'll stay with her, I'll accept the award with her, and I'll get that star on Broadway.
09:57No, no, it's LA, isn't it, it's Hollywood.
10:01I love you all, thank you.
10:03Jessica Chastain, she's coming up here in a minute.
10:08Hey Joe, you nailed it, unbelievable, unbelievable.
10:14No, that was perfect.
10:16That's just, I didn't want it to end.
10:24It's Jeder Michel Lauderdale.
10:27It's your turn, don't we?
10:28Everything's actually done.
10:29Our looks burada is the one over the far new house, it always looked over to me.
10:34It's a beautiful friend's heart buddy and it's beautiful.
10:38Sh marketers.
10:43Love you choose a, thank you.
10:45Anyone?
10:46Thanks for laughing.
