00:00Youth Voices took centre stage today at the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment
00:05with delegates from UNICEF's ASEAN Children and Youth Climate Summit
00:10presenting their climate action recommendations directly to ASEAN ministers.
00:15Reporting from Langkawi, here's Fahana Sheik.
00:18I am here in Langkawi for the 18th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment
00:24and it's a significant day for the youth delegates of the UNICEF's ASEAN Children and Youth Climate Summit 2025
00:32as they officially handed over their climate action recommendations to ASEAN ministers.
00:37Now, among the proposals were better youth participation, climate justice, as well as climate change education.
00:44So let's hear from Celeste and Sovisal on what it meant for them to share their ideas directly to regional leaders.
00:52It was a lot of pressure because Saba, in general, is very underrepresented.
00:58We don't really have our voice heard in regional conversations.
01:03And so it's such a privilege standing here.
01:06And I know I'm really not standing by myself.
01:08And so this moment itself just meant so much to me.
01:11And again, last night I was crying thinking about it.
01:15And it just felt like when I was there I wasn't really speaking as Celeste.
01:20I was speaking as the daughter of Saba.
01:22I think, honestly, again, it's so easy to feel small.
01:27You know, as youths across ASEAN, it's really easy to feel small.
01:32It's easy to feel like we can't really get things, get our voices heard.
01:36But I've said this before, and it's you just need one spark.
01:40One spark.
01:40And when you have many sparks together, they all join up and it becomes unstoppable.
01:45You can't avoid it.
01:46And this declaration for the 100 youth delegates, they have been working hard to draft this declaration,
01:54to share their ideas, thoughts, challenges, and also propose their solutions for this declaration to happen.
02:00And this moment is very momentous for us, because this is the first time that a youth declaration on environment
02:09is being formally introduced into the ASEAN environmental meeting.
02:15So I feel very proud about it.
02:18I think one of the most important challenges that ASEAN youth is facing right now is regarding education.
02:27So climate and environmental education is still limited across the ASEAN countries.
02:33And we hope that the ASEAN ministers will consider to implement education on climate, on environment,
02:41into formal education and also informal education, such as online knowledge hub or through community education.
02:50With that, the ACYCS 2025 comes to a close.
02:54It's been a meaningful three days of discussions, hands-on learning, networking, and climate stories across the region.
03:02Delegates leave with a clear message.
03:04Children and young people must stay at the forefront of climate action in ASEAN and beyond.
03:10That's all from me.
