00:00Climate advocacy takes center stage on day two of UNICEF's ASEAN Children and Youth Climate Summit.
00:06Reporting from Langkawi, here's our correspondent Fahana Sheer.
00:10It's day two here at the UNICEF's ASEAN Children and Youth Climate Summit
00:15and we began the day on a boat for a tour of the Kilimkas Geo Forest Park
00:20to learn more about the unique mangrove ecosystem and its rich biodiversity
00:24from fossil fuels to wildlife and more.
00:26But don't just take it from me, let's hear from one of the participants.
00:30I thought it would be just the mangroves and stuff.
00:35But actually going into it, we have seen the monkeys and also the eagles
00:40and a lot of creatures having fun on their own.
00:44And it's like their natural habitat.
00:47And so it's really nice to learn about their nature
00:51because the Torukai has also explained us about how they behave normally in nature.
00:57and also the fact that we can reduce the risks of natural disasters
01:02such as storms, floods and tsunamis just by having mangroves in the coastal regions.
01:08It really inspired me to advocate more for the preservation of the rainforests and the mangroves.
01:15And now that we have joined this ACYCES 2025, we're inspired by the other delegates from ASEAN countries
01:23like how they are handling climate efforts in their countries.
01:26How are they advocating for better changes?
01:29How are they spreading awareness in their countries?
01:34How are they taking part in policy making and stuff?
01:38So it really inspires me and makes me, motivates me to work harder for my country
01:44and preserve the nature and also like for the better,
01:48for the better man of livelihood for our citizens in Myanmar.
01:52After the trip, the participants joined a series of workshops.
01:56I myself had the privilege of conducting one workshop on the role of media in climate action.
02:01Others explore various topics from mental health in reducing climate anxieties,
02:06disaster risk reduction, as well as indigenous knowledge and more.
02:09So let's hear from one of the participants what he has to say.
02:12The workshop that I joined just now is actually run by Astro R1 itself.
02:16It's called From Hashtag to Headlines, telling climate stories to people.
02:20And the things that I love about this workshop is that we learn about the media
02:27and about all the platform of media and the audience that we targeted.
02:31Now, in this generation, there's a lot of platforms and a lot of audience.
02:36And when we created content, we don't really know who is it for and where we should upload it.
02:42And I think this workshop really does condense it into like who is your target audience primarily
02:48and how are you telling these stories or this problem to people.
02:53In Brunei, the climate change problem is not really a problem yet
02:59because everyone is taking their own pace, running at their own pace.
03:03So I want to join this summit to know how I should bring or raise this problem in Brunei,
03:09because people learn about it, but people aren't aware about it yet.
03:14But I hope to learn more from other countries, especially Malaysia and Indonesia,
03:19because we have the same target audience, I would say, or the same mindset, I would say,
03:25because their way of doing things are different from Brunei.
03:28And definitely Malaysia ways of doing things kind of relate to Brunei as well.
03:32So I definitely want to learn from Malaysia and Indonesia more.
03:35That's a wrap for day two here at the ACYCS in Langkawi.
03:40Tomorrow, some of the delegates will head to the ASEAN ministerial meeting on the environment
03:45to present some of the climate action recommendations.
03:48So stay tuned for that and more only on Estor Awani.
