00:40:06everybody went through different stages of mourning and grief.

00:40:15no direction.
00:40:17No, nothing.
00:40:19There was nothing I wanted to do, especially.
00:40:20And I didn't need any money.
00:40:23So I was just wandering around,
00:40:25staying with friends and taking it easy
00:40:28and doing this, painting houses,
00:40:29and drove a truck for a while.
00:40:33Stuff like that.
00:40:34And I was feeling very lost.
00:40:42But
00:40:42I was living in despair,
00:40:46quiet despair,
00:40:47because I believed that I'd never
00:40:50be happy again.
00:40:54That Maharaji being gone
00:40:56physically was
00:40:57something I would never get over.
00:41:01and I would never find that anywhere.
00:41:04So, what did it matter what I did?
00:41:08Right?
00:41:08It didn't.
00:41:10And I just basically gave up.

00:41:37got involved with some coke,

00:41:38somebody turned me on to freebase,
00:41:41which is like,
00:41:42which is like crack,
00:41:44but
00:41:44a very much purer form,
00:41:46even like that.
00:41:48And I got
00:41:48addicted to freebase.
00:41:51And
00:41:51for about a year and a half,
00:41:54I was
00:41:55very involved with
00:41:57smoking.
00:41:59You smoke it
00:42:00in a pipe.
00:42:04And
00:42:04it was the only thing
00:42:13that ever really,
00:42:14really
00:42:15fooled me.
00:42:18I really
00:42:18I really was
00:42:21I couldn't do anything about it.
00:42:23I was
00:42:24I was fucked up
00:42:26and
00:42:27there was no way out of it.
00:42:28I was really strung out.
00:42:30I was in New York
00:42:31on my way
00:42:32to see Mr. Tiwari,

00:42:38And then he was going to
