During a speech to the House floor on Tuesday, Rep. George Latimer (D-NY) called President Trump's push to redistrict congressional maps.
Transcript
00:00Without objection, the gentleman is recognized for one minute.
00:10Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
00:11President Trump has called on several Republican governors to redistrict congressional districts,
00:17no matter what the cost of fairness, border inclusion, or proper geographic representation.
00:23If his big, beautiful, ugly bill and its related policies were so popular, he wouldn't need to do this.
00:31Cutting Medicaid for rural hospitals and food programs for the needy isn't so popular, after all.
00:38His irrational tariff policies are backfiring.
00:41If his backtracking on environmental progress, threats to Social Security and VA benefits
00:46weren't creating a grassroots pushback, this wouldn't be necessary.
00:50The unpopularity of his policies should lose him the tight-fisted control of this house.
00:57We cannot box, following the Marcus of Queensbury rules, of fair and impartial districting,
01:04while the World Wrestling Federation rules allow you to hit your opponent over the head with a chair.
01:09This is a desperate power grab whose agenda has failed the American people.
01:15We cannot let gerrymandering silence voters.
01:17Democracy demands fairness, and we must fight for it.
01:21I yield back, Mr. Speaker.
01:24For what purpose does the gentleman from Virginia seek recognition?
