Vietnamese President Luong Cuong highly praised his counterpart Vladimir Putin’s leadership, suggesting Russia would become a centre of global peace and stability, during their meeting in Beijing on Wednesday.
"We attach great importance to our traditionally friendly relations with Russia. These are brotherly relations that have been tested over the years. Allow me to congratulate you on the great achievements that Russia has made in recent years. We believe that under your leadership, Russia will become a great power and a pillar of global peace, justice and stability," the leader said.
Cuong also thanked Putin for Moscow’s participation in the Victory Day parade in Hanoi and underlined the significant contribution made by the Soviet army during World War II.
For his part, the Russian leader congratulated the Vietnamese people on the 80th anniversary of their declaration of independence and noted that 2025 marks 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
"Over the years, Vietnam and our country, Russia, have developed a special relationship of alliance and fraternal mutual assistance. It is difficult for me to list all areas of our co-operation, which has intensified in recent years," Putin stated.
Earlier, the presidents attended China's iconic Victory Parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of WW2 and the Second Sino-Japanese War. The celebration featured 26 world leaders.
