00:01Winni Katsuei Siji is on a mission of care.
00:04A dedicated nurse with Reach One Touch One Ministries,
00:08she travels deep into Uganda's mountains to reach elderly patients often forgotten.
00:13By border border motorcycle taxi, she rides, then walks the rest.
00:19Most of the parts are in hidden areas where most of our seniors are staying in those hidden places.
00:25I use a border border where it can reach, but if it can't, I stop it and I foot.
00:36So I foot to those places.
00:39It's no easy feat, but Winni is determined.
00:43In Uganda, growing old often means facing life without a pension, limited medical care, and deep poverty.
00:50Winni carries her metal case from home to home, providing a number of services,
00:54including checking blood pressure and glucose levels.
00:59I do medical procedures like catalysations,
01:03and I also check their vitals, especially blood pressure and blood glucose,
01:09in order to prevent complications.
01:12And I also check their hygiene and cut them on diet.
01:19Winni washes up using rainwater collected in plastic tanks,
01:23the same source her patients rely on.
01:26For her, caring for Uganda's elderly isn't just a job, it's God's work.
01:32I was called by God to love and serve,
01:35so it's my passion for me to be a nurse,
01:39especially to take care of those elders who can't take care of themselves.
01:44In just 15 years, Sub-Saharan Africa's older population has surged by 50%,
01:50now at 67 million.
01:52The WHO projects that number will more than double to 163 by 2050.
01:57Thank you,
02:00and have a question.
02:01Thanks,
02:03everyone.
02:16Here you are.
02:18You're welcome.
