00:00Defence and security were identified as the key priority to bolster EU global influence.
00:11This was determined by a Eurobarometer poll published by the European Parliament on Wednesday.
00:1737% of those surveyed believe that the security of the continent is the main challenge for member states at an international level.
00:24This is the biggest priority that comes out for the European Union.
00:28This is the second priority when we talk about the priorities that the European Parliament should do.
00:32Of course, there are differences between member states and member states.
00:35After Defence, 32% of respondents believe that the EU must take action to boost competitiveness in order to strengthen its international position,
00:44followed by Energy Independence at 27%.
00:48Overall, citizens want member states to play a greater role in protecting Europeans from global crises and security threats.
00:57To achieve this, respondents believe that more joint projects are needed.
01:23At the same time, the survey shows that granting governments a blank cheque is out of the question.
01:2885% of Europeans believe that EU funds should be conditional on respect for rule of law and democratic values.
01:36Overall, citizens have a positive image of the EU,
01:39with 73% of those surveyed believing that their country has benefited from joining the European project.
