00:00Most EU citizens don't view defence as a top investment priority.

00:10A recent Eurobarometer poll showed EU citizens are not exactly eager to spend money on defence,

00:17despite growing warnings from NATO and the EU about the risk of future conflicts.

00:23Fewer than one in four people want the bloc to pour money into defence.

00:28In fact, defence infrastructure and capabilities rank only 7th out of 10 proposed areas of investment.

00:36However, public opinion across the bloc seems deeply fractured.

00:40Unsurprisingly, support is highest among Russia's close neighbours,

00:4550% in Estonia, 46% in both Finland and Lithuania,

00:50while backing is much lower in countries like Italy, Bulgaria, Spain, Ireland,

00:57Slovenia and Hungary.

00:59Instead of defence, respondents point to areas like health and education as top priorities.

01:06These are followed by climate action and environment protection.

01:10Denmark is the most climate-concerned country before Malta and Italy.

01:15Job creation is the third most pressing issue across the bloc, followed by housing.

01:21On the other hand, amid growing pressure from mass travel,

01:25tourism received the least support for public investment.
