00:00What do you think of the Heaney acquisition for the Dodgers?
00:02It really doesn't scream, oh, this guy's going to be eating innings for them in the postseason.
00:07It screams, oh, this is a warm body to help us get through the month of September.
00:11Well, I think maybe they thought Roki Sasaki could come back and maybe be one of those warm bodies that could help them.
00:16And I think it's more indicative of the fact that they'd probably rather just roll out Andrew Heaney there over a handful of starts, less than a handful, just a few starts in this final month,
00:24than put Roki Sasaki in a situation where a hole will probably fail, just the way that he has looked in these rehab outings so far.
00:32That's kind of the first thing I thought of, because you see Sasaki technically healthy and working back and throwing 75 pitches his last time out in AAA.
00:40And you say, well, if you need innings, why not just bring him up?
00:43Because I think they're looking at the big picture with him and saying, let's just keep working on things in AAA right now.
00:49And I also think they probably don't feel great about his ability to maneuver through lineups right now.
00:54And I know Andrew Heaney hasn't been good, but he's usually going to be able to just get through five innings and survive.
01:00And I think that's ultimately what he's going to be there to do.
01:03But honestly, maybe it's not fair, but my mind went to Sasaki and said, I don't think we're seeing him again this year.
01:10For me, just looking at the results from Sasaki, and did I see zero whiffs at his first rehab start?
01:16I feel like that number has not really climbed much over rehab starts two and three.
01:20He's struggled three times at this point, and it just doesn't feel awesome.
01:24So this is a contingency plan for Sasaki.
01:27It's also not the end of the world if Roki Sasaki doesn't throw another pitch with the Dodgers this year.
01:32This guy was still three, four years away from coming over stateside when Yoshinobu Yamamoto did.
01:39Like, he came over when Ohtani did, but Ohtani was 100 times the player that Sasaki was at that point.
01:47This is Babe Ruth we're talking about compared to a very, very talented pitcher, but he may need some more time.
01:52One other guy that I want to talk about here.
01:55The Atlanta Braves made an interesting waiver claim.
01:58Ha Sung Kim was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay.
02:01Ha Sung Kim was a guy that I thought was a perfect fit for Atlanta this offseason,
02:05but he opted to sign a two-year, $29 million deal with Tampa this winter.
02:11He's on the hook for about $1.8 million for the rest of this year.
02:15Atlanta is for Ha Sung Kim.
02:16He's set to come off the IL.
02:18He also has a player option at $16 million next year.
02:21If he's healthy and he has a good month, this is their shortstop next year.
02:26This is a massive upgrade over Nick Allen.
02:29Well, here's the thing.
02:30If he's not, he's still their shortstop next year.
02:33No, that's what I thought was fascinating.
02:35So the Braves, and we were talking about it all offseason.
02:39Why are the Braves not in on Kim?
02:41Why are the Braves not in on Kim?
02:42They must have been.
02:43And I think it was probably one of those situations where they didn't want to commit two years,
02:49given the health situation that he was in.
02:52And I think that's fair.
02:53There's a couple of guys.
02:54I think they were in on Hoffman too, right?
02:56And medicals kind of spooked them as well.
02:58They would have been right based on the way this year has gone to be spooked by the Kim
03:02medicals.
03:02But now they say, well, we can get them at one year, essentially 17 million.
03:06If you tack on the 1 million for this year.
03:09Now that's interesting to them.
03:10I think they probably didn't want to go on the second year.
03:12So I love it for the Braves.
03:15You're taking a shot here, but it is an interesting move by them.
03:19Basically saying, we don't even want to risk that somebody else picks up Kim.
03:23We like him enough that we'll take this one year roll of the dice.
03:26So I like that from them.
03:28And I think even if he is not great, it's going to be an upgrade from what they had.
03:33I still think he is going to be good when healthy.
03:34And the way they look at it is, okay, we have all off season, hopefully get them right physically
03:39and ease them into next year.
03:41But I like, basically it's a free agent signing for the Braves.
