Thousands gathered in a sea of red, white, blue and yellow at the Penang state-level 68th National Day celebration at Batu Kawan Stadium.

Families said the celebration instilled pride and unity, with many emphasising the importance of teaching children to love Malaysia.

00:00A young boy's spirited cry of Merdeka rang out at the Penang State Level 68th National Day celebration,
00:12capturing the pride and excitement of thousands in Batukawan on Sunday.
00:16For many, it was a rare chance to get up close to a police patrol car and even step inside two Gempita 8x8 armored vehicles,
00:23part of a showcase by the police, armed forces and fire and rescue department to inspire patriotism among the public.
00:31We feel very happy to come here to Batukawan to celebrate Merdeka with all our community friends.
00:38We feel very proud to be a Malaysian.
00:44When we came here, we came from 7.08.
00:49We went here and we didn't have enough people here.
00:55But here it is really nice because we took that turn.
00:59We will bring their children to make Merdeka and give them a better job.
01:09A sea of red, white, blue and yellow filled the stadium, as 122 contingents with 7,533
01:15participants and 22 vehicle units marched past under the blazing sun.
01:21The parade featured government departments, GLCs, NGOs, cultural performances and more,
01:27all themed Malaysia Madani, Rakyat Disantuni.
01:31On the main stage, Yang Di-Pertua Negeri Tun Ramlinga Talib, Chief Minister Chau Konyao
01:36and other state leaders took the salute as contingents marched proudly by.
01:41The crowd was also entertained by the SMJK Jitsin Choir, traditional dances and the mohibah drum ensemble.
01:48Despite the sweltering heat, families said the event was remarkable.
01:52So it's a good event and we really enjoy it although it's very hot.
01:56Our family all really enjoyed the show, the parade is showing in the morning until now.
02:03And then we can really see how is our badan community, and then how they started, and then how they are doing their everything.
02:13So we feel happy.
02:15The participants said the parade was a showcase of patriotism and a reminder that the spirit of independence remains alive across generations.
02:23For the people of Malaysia, we are the mostdarous people to support our nation, and for the more, the greater and greater.
02:33Because we bring the children of our children to live our faith, and give them their faith.
02:39I will advise all Malaysians to live together and be a unity.
