00:00Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says,
00:04Malaysia is leading efforts to establish an ASEAN AI safety network,
00:09a regional initiative aimed at strengthening AI governance and building technical capacity.
00:14Speaking at the BRICS Leaders Summit in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday,
00:17Anwar, who also chairs ASEAN, welcomed BRICS' efforts in promoting responsible AI development.
00:23The Prime Minister, who was officially received by Brazilian President Lula da Silva,
00:27was accompanied by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz
00:32and Transport Minister Anthony Luke.
00:35Anwar described the summit as timely, noting that the global order is under immense pressure,
00:40with institutions struggling to adapt to emerging challenges.
00:43He reaffirmed Malaysia's strong support for multilateralism,
00:46calling it essential for peace, shared prosperity and the preservation of sovereignty.
00:51Anwar also stressed that multilateralism must produce real results,
00:54especially in a world where markets are fragmenting faster than global rules can evolve.
00:59He added that ASEAN is not remaining passive, highlighting that economic fragmentation is
01:03intensifying, with new tariffs, trade decoupling and shifting alliances disrupting previously stable
01:08trade flows.
01:09Malaysia, he said, is advancing a forward-looking strategy focused on diversification,
01:13resilience and regional empowerment, rather than dependence on external influence.
01:18Anwar also welcomed BRICS' commitment to inclusive, rules-based trade,
01:21a vision that aligns closely with Malaysia's 2025 ASEAN chairmanship theme,
01:26inclusivity and sustainability.
