00:00well hello everybody uh it is deadline day it's uh 10 o'clock but that doesn't mean to say that
00:08we've stopped working we i'm here with aston villa reporter it's mr matt mayor matt it's been a busy
00:13day at villa park it has yeah it's been a it's been a busy end to what has been otherwise quite a
00:19you know quiet window in terms of terms of the incomings you know they've signed
00:24five senior players at the end and three of them have come in within what the last 10 hours
00:29of the window six hours seven hours of the window yeah so yeah it's been uh and they literally just
00:35i think believer just about to announce the the last one harvey elliot as we as we are recording
00:40damian vidigani the villa's uh uh head of football operations has basically put a big tweet out about
00:4810 minutes ago at the window but he's done it before they've announced elliot and somebody's
00:53replied to him saying can we announce elliot please to which damian is quite a funny guy you know got
00:59good sense of humor has replied maybe there is a post credit scene so i think this is and uh you
01:07know and there there we are there's harvey elliott signed uh initial season long loan with obligation
01:15to buy based on appearances i don't know how many appearances that is but i would suspect this is a
01:21you know this is a deal that um smaller my appearances is going to go through yeah it's
01:25probably not going to be a huge amount uh i think it's it's be 35 million um but um yes i think that's
01:37probably the deal of all the deals done today that's probably the one that's got people most excited it
01:41was the one that probably people weren't expecting i think you know leaving villa park last night you
01:46know the word was obviously lindelof had had his medical that was all going well sancho they were
01:52very keen on that was one that you know as of last night you thought that's probably going to happen
01:58um and elliott's come really not out of the blue because villa were kind of interested in all summer
02:04but it's one that as the window is has kind of um you know come to a close that they've been able to
02:09get over the line it's accelerated very quickly accelerated and you know one of those deals that
02:14they've ever been hanging on for because the financial restrictions about to operate under
02:17means that they were always going to be doing a lot of their business very late you know when
02:21these deals are easy to do sometimes the price comes down clubs want to get players out players
02:27want to go they don't want to spend the next three or four months on the bench so more deals become
02:31available so it's been a hectic last you know week really because there's been a lot of deals that
02:37were in the off in and obviously you know some some have happened some happens marco essentially
02:40obviously being one that that hasn't happened um you know so yeah it's uh and luke as well from
02:49west ham uh was another player they were quite keen on but yeah i mean look it as it was explained to
02:55me it was explained to someone last night they described it as as this morning would be for villa
03:01it's equivalent of starting your christmas shopping at 5 p.m on christmas eve we've all been there
03:07you never know what you're going to quite going to get and i suppose they've got a you know it
03:12could have you know look you can't just transfer windows immediately after they've closed it takes
03:18months sometimes years this has been a difficult window for villa and you know you'd say that they've
03:24come out of it you know okay considering the challenges that they've but they've faced in terms
03:29of you know the financial restrictions that they have been uh operating under um in terms of the deals
03:35then so chronologically uh if you want to talk us through the day and what that means going forward
03:39in terms of um strengthening strength and depth or or first team starters as you see at this moment
03:46in time i know it's all moving parts but with aston village starts the season very difficult
03:50which one of these players do you expect to see in the first team sooner rather than later
03:54well i think you would probably say harvey elliott would be the uh obvious one because he's played the
04:00most football this season albeit not much i think he's he came on in the 89th minute
04:07played in the in the community shield uh victor lindworth hasn't played since the end of last
04:11season you know he's come in as defensive cover that's one area that you know they were lacking
04:16um you know first game of the season as we come to get sent off they don't have another right-sided
04:21center half so they have to play the two left footers at brentford and they concede you know a goal
04:27probably because that was a new partnership and lose that game partly because of you know not
04:31having the perhaps the cover that they wanted in defense but lindelof is going to take some time
04:36to get up to speed you would guess uh though he has been training you know back at his old club in
04:41sweden great experience though great experience you know yeah i think i think it's a game player for a
04:47fourth choice center back yeah season where you're going to be playing a lot of games you know we're
04:51going to play more than 50 games again this season sure um so you know it's it's a good i think it's a
04:57it's a it's a smart move and when people compare it to you know i saw people tweet about clemen long
05:02lay um you know um early step i always thought long lay did a decent enough job for the job that
05:08he was asked to has to do you know that season look you know he probably wasn't on the level of
05:12how to raise but you know he he you know he contributed to villa getting you know over the
05:18line in quite a few games sure and i see lindelof is that similar kind of deal or admittedly he's a
05:23permanent deal uh free transfer two years and jaden sancho obviously look you know he's been out of
05:29favor at united again not placing to start on a season so um yeah he's gonna maybe take a while to
05:37to get up to speed but they they will be in squads immediately uh you know villages you saw the bench
05:43last night that they had against you know crystal palace um yeah the four you know four youth team
05:48players um you know um so yeah they will be involved to varying degrees you know right from the start
05:58um certainly so there's the big news of the three incomings but there was one big
06:04outgoing that was going going and did not happen well was it ever going going i mean this this is the
06:11this was the this one the issues yesterday because it's look it came out that um you know united had
06:18renewed their interest but you know martinez by the way yeah and amy martinez so yeah important point um
06:26yeah but there was still a lot that needed to happen so this i mean look we we this goes back to the
06:32end of last season and amy martinez leaving the pitch at the end of the last home game in tears and
06:38everyone thinking he's off and i said back then well you don't know he's off it may just be that
06:44he thinks he's off and that the latter was correct so martinez from the start of the year really changed
06:51agents uh now represented by george mendes we all know well um and he'd been looking for a move
06:59he was telling people i was told by very good you know well by more than one source that he was telling
07:04people towards the end of last season that he was going to go to atletico madrid obviously a club
07:09that mendes has quite a few dealings with because this expectation was that atletico madrid were
07:15going to sell yano black um they felt his time at the club had come to an end and they were going
07:20to bring in martinez as a replacement that didn't happen they changed their minds they kept all black
07:25that's one route gone the other route's man united but man united never came forward with a
07:30concrete firm bid they offered to take martinez on loan ridiculous offer was never going to be you
07:37know that was in july i think that was that was never going to be accepted and then they come back
07:42in at what the 11th hour um and yet they still weren't certain because they were looking at um
07:49at lamence uh saint-elamance from um from antwerp so look i think that my feeling on this is that it
07:59probably would have been better but the best case scenario uh for villa this summer would have been
08:04to sell out any martinez and to bring in a replacement but to do that deal in the last
08:0924 hours of the window as manchester united were trying to do or you know as could have happened was
08:15always going to be very difficult because look man united need to match for this valuation which
08:20yeah okay let's say maybe at the end of the window phila might have been prepared to compromise on the
08:2540 million they were asking earlier in the window but then villa have got to guarantee themselves a
08:30replacement as you've seen with you know mark gay here tonight that move collapses a little bit because
08:34crystal but you know that so martinez isn't going to uh manchester united until they've got a
08:41replacement sure you know and it also depended on and this whole thing the whole way through
08:46on manchester united actually making the move for martinez which my understanding is they never actually did in a
08:54in a country we're going to offer you this amount of money there were there were talks you know they
09:00were given an idea of the valuation but ultimately this morning they decided to go for the younger
09:05goalkeeper from antwerp and emi martinez has been left looking a little daft yeah you know quite frank
09:15um because you know every you know the tears on the pitch the insistence you know behind closed doors
09:21that he was he was he was away that he was going to get a move and now he's not got his move and
09:26he's kind of you know he's upset the fans i mean look there's no yeah well we can get this in there
09:32you know as to how whether there's any way back but for him and i think there certainly is but there's
09:38no doubt that he is slightly you know kind of uh you know a big hero a lot of supporters has got a bit
09:43of making up to do uh making up to do now because um yeah he's um kind of yeah it's kind of i think
09:52you know we both you know see the other side of the game you know get closer to it than a lot of
09:58people do and you become very cynical don't you uh about you know footballers and there and and i
10:04always think you're right to be cynical but i totally get from supporters you know they're your heroes
10:09you kind of believe in them and when they do things like this it comes as a huge shock it's not
10:14a massive shock i don't think to you know to you know perhaps you or me as it is to you know the
10:19supporters but you know it's um yeah um he has kind of you know perhaps he will be viewed slightly
10:27differently now by other fans than he was before so yeah i mean that's the last question that really is
10:33in terms of you know we're in the international break maybe it's a good time to have an international
10:36break where people it's a good good time so sorry i was gonna say it's a good time to be flying to
10:41argentina definitely yeah that's very true yeah absolutely absolutely yeah uh good time to get
10:47out of the country out of birmingham um yeah look yeah there's obviously a break now um i think it's
10:54everton is the next game uh obviously a goodison park big game big stadium i mean you wouldn't put
10:59it past him to go in and have a serve penalty have a clean sheet would you and he's a hero again
11:04but villa villa i know that there's been some interest uh from galatasaray but my understanding
11:12is that martinez is not interested in galatasaray there was interest from saudi arabia he didn't
11:16want saudi arabia because he wants the projects i think manchester united and and being a you know
11:23being seen as a player that helped bring manchester united out the doldrums that would fit his personality
11:28yeah yeah he was really keen on on that move you know he's not look he's not motivated by money
11:36primarily um you know he wanted that big the glory the glory move champions you know well not champions
11:43league man united but the big the profile sure so i don't think he'd be keen on turkey or saudi arabia
11:49and the fact is villa cannot they can't sell him now you know they can't just leave themselves with marco
11:54bezo no i think he's a good goalkeeper and and would be fine for half a season providing his
12:00stance fit you know you'd you'd be taking a massive risk you know by selling martinez now
12:07and so that's for the reason i just do not think you know it will happen martinez will be reintegrated
12:14um you know we'll be given a bit of time perhaps to get his get his head straight and i think the
12:18character that he is i think he'll be i do think he'll be okay because i think he is that kind of
12:24person who will you know will you know quickly just kind of get back on track and he won't you
12:30know water off a duck's back really so um you know the kind of the actually you look back at some
12:38of the you know yeah he has made himself look a bit daft but other players have done worse and still
12:46come back and being and being uh you know being respected i mean john duran you know we're 12 months
12:53on from from john duran uh doing the hammer side and you know all that stuff on social media
13:00just cause the winner at west ham on the first day of the season and everything's forgotten um
13:06and to go further back and more seriously i mean you know gabriella bonhawk you know for the
13:10relegation season stripped of the captaincy not fit enough to play in the last month you know
13:16pictured out in london the night they got relegated you know really really soured you know his
13:22relationship with fans we would assume beyond repair yeah but still managed to come back next season yeah
13:28scored against birmingham city and now you know he's he's still you know there's still quite a lot of um
13:34um goodwill towards towards gabby among the fan base where you know in 2016 you just said well
13:40he'll never be allowed to set foot in villa park ever again so i don't think it's you know it would
13:45look he's got a bit of making up to do i think there's there's no doubt um about that he's got
13:52to be careful how he handles the situation um i think you know he needs to realize that you know he has
13:59you know upset a few people but i don't i think we're a long way from being you know
14:04beyond the point of of no return as i've seen you know from it's written uh well not written today
14:09but you know around on social media today i do think that is there is a there is a way back
14:15uh but yeah it's uh it's not been a not been a great summer for him really no um fascinating day
