00:04A suspect in the fatal shooting of prominent Ukrainian politician Andriy Paraby has been
00:09arrested, the country's president Volodymyr Zelensky has said. The 54-year-old parliamentarian
00:14was killed by an attacker posing as a courier in the western city of Lviv on Saturday,
00:19sparking a manhunt. Ukraine's interior minister Igor Klemenko said in a statement issued in the
00:24early hours of Monday morning that the suspect had been detained in the western Khmelnytsky
00:28region. Paraby rose to prominence during Ukraine's Euromaidan mass protests, which advocated closer
00:34ties with the EU and brought down pro-Russian former President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014.
00:40Klemenko said the preliminary investigation had found the killing had been
00:43carefully prepared, with Paraby's travel schedule and route mapped out, as well as an escape plan.
00:49He added that Ukraine's national police force would provide further details later.
00:53In a social media post, Zelensky said he had spoken to Chief Prosecutor Russlin
00:58Kravchenko, who advised that the suspect had given an initial testimony.
01:02Urgent investigative actions are currently underway to establish all the circumstances
01:06of this murder, he added, while also thanking law enforcement and prosecutors for
01:11working around the clock. Unverified footage, purportedly of the shooting,
01:16appeared to show a gunman dressed as a courier approaching Paraby on the street
01:19and holding up a weapon as he walked behind him. At a news briefing on Saturday,
01:23Lviv Police Chief Oleksandr Shlyakovsky said the attacker had
01:27fired about eight shots from a firearm. Sources inside Ukraine's law enforcement
01:32agencies told the BBC that the attacker had dressed to look like a worker from delivery
01:36company Glovo. The company said it was
01:39deeply shocked by the crime and would cooperate fully with an investigation.
01:43Paraby was the Speaker of the country's parliament from April 2016 to August 2019.
01:49He was one of the leaders of demonstrations in 2013-14 which called for closer ties with the
