Lorraine star reveals four-stone weight loss after Mounjaro injectionsLorraine
Transcript
00:00Our financial expert Claire Barrett has been using the jabs since last November and has lost four
00:05stone in the process and she's here now with Dr Hilary. Now I've known about this, we've all
00:11known about this, the thing is when you see somebody virtually on a daily basis, now when I
00:15look at you compared to when, you know, last November, it's astonishing and you feel better
00:21as you've told us. Why this? Why did you do the jab? Well the short answer Lorraine, let's not put
00:28too fine a point on it, I was obese. I had a BMI, a body mass index of 37 which is far too high,
00:36anything 30 or over, you know, you're obese, you're in the danger zone for diabetes. I wasn't
00:41pre-diabetic but that was something that I was really worried about. I had one rogue high blood
00:46pressure reading when I was under a lot of stress at work and it just made me think, I write about
00:52longevity, about retirement, about healthy life expectancy because this is the big thing for us
00:58coming down the tracks, you know, if we're going to be living for longer and also working for longer,
01:01we need to stay healthier for longer. So I took a calculated risk, you might say, because I knew
01:07there were side effects to these drugs, I had various chats with Dr Hilary but I also made a
01:13beeline to my own GP and I would say anyone who's thinking about losing weight, your GP can give you
01:19so much help and information for free and support. You know, the GP in my practice and also the nurse
01:25because a lot of the time it's the nurses who are helping you, I did a free 12-week course on the
01:30NHS and I lost nearly a stone doing that but all of the things that I did when I was younger that
01:36helped me lose weight, as somebody who's over the age of 45, some of those things just weren't
01:41working for me. It's very hard, isn't it? It's very hard and I know you, we've talked about this,
01:45I mean my weight's going up and down all the time over the years and it's hard and as you get older
01:50it's hard, I can completely understand you trying this out and the thing about you is you will have
01:55researched it like you wouldn't believe, which of course you did. Side effects we've talked about,
02:00did you have any bad side effects at all? I was very lucky in that I didn't have any bad side effects
02:04but I was very prepared for what they might be. I told everyone who I worked with at the FT that I was
02:09on these drugs in case anything happened and I had an adverse reaction and really the biggest side
02:15effect for me was just not feeling hungry and thinking about food all the time. Because that's the
02:20thing isn't it? Because a lot of people who go on this, you've got to address, and Hillary you talk
02:26about this don't you, you've got to address the causes of why you are overweight. Absolutely, you've got to
02:31hand the wraparound services as well as the jabs. The jabs aren't a miracle cure on their own unless you
02:36change your lifestyle whilst you're on them, unless you address what you eat, how much you eat, unless you
02:42adopt a healthy lifestyle with more exercise, you're only going to put the weight back on when
02:46you stop taking the medication. So that's really, really important and Claire did it the right way.
