00:23Sir, para may background lang po muna, pwede nyo po bang ipaliwanag kung ano po yung DOST-FPRDI at paano ito nakakatulong sa publiko?
00:37Ang Forest Products Research and Development Institute po, o mas kilala bilang DOST-FPRDI,
00:44ay isa sa mga ahensya ng Department of Science and Technology na nagkokontak po ng pananaliksik sa sektor po ng wood and non-wood forest products.
00:53particularly sa utilization and sa non-wood forest products sector po, kasama po doon ang kawayan.
01:00At ang mga nade-develop po namin technology ay tinatransfer po namin both sa private and public sectors for the benefit po of the general public.
01:10Ganda pong may background po tayo kasi ang pag-uusapan po natin ay yung kawayan.
01:17So, ano po yung mga industriya po sa Laguna na may kinalaman o nagkokultivate po ng kawayan?
01:25At may datos ba kayo kung gaano kadami o kalaki yung industriya nito?

01:33Alam nyo po, yung Laguna po, hindi po talaga kilala ang probinsya namin pagdating po sa kawayan.
01:39Usually po, pag Laguna, ano yan? Coconut. Yan, ganyan.
01:43Usually naman, yung mga bamboo provinces na kilala talaga ay mga Pampanga, Iloilo, Bukidno, yan po.
01:50Pero po, alam nyo po, kami po ay nagkaroon ng value chain mapping.
01:55Ano po, from the initial numbers na nakita namin sa DTI official records na around 14,
02:01When we did the mapping, nasa, ano, na-account namin na around 100 pala yung bamboo enterprises sa province.
02:08At mahigit kalahati sa kanila po ay talagang, ano, into the bamboo processing.
02:13So, with that po, meron din kaming konting data kung ano yung number of,
02:17o yung volume po ng raw materials na ginagamit nila on an annual basis.
02:22Based on our estimates, nasa, ano po, yung value po nito ay nasa 40 million.
02:27Ito po ay raw bamboo poles pa lang.
02:29Pag in-account po natin yung value adding for every step ng value chain,
02:35ang estimate po namin is more than 100 million yung value po ng mga bamboo products sa Laguna.
02:41So, with that, it shows that the province industry is actually thriving
02:47despite being unknown, untapped, and probably unrecognized.
02:53Sir, sabi nyo, thriving po yung industriya.
02:56Pero, paano po pag pinasukan pa natin ng tulong from science and technology?
03:02So, paano pa mapapalago yung industriya at paano ito makakabenefit sa ating mga kababayan dyan?
03:12Unang-una pong ginawa ng DOST-FPRD ay, through the funding of DOST-PICARD po,
03:18nagkaroon po tayo ng series of projects on how we can assist the entire industry in general.
03:23Ano po, tinulungan po natin ito by institutionalizing an industry development council.
03:29And by that, we are right now crafting an industry development plan
03:33that will be a roadmap for the entire industry po.
03:36At umangat, at least in the next 10 years.
03:40Aside from that, nagkaroon din po tayo ng malawakan na province-wide enterprise development
03:46kung saan po, inisa-isa natin ano ba yung mga problema ng bawat enterprises natin.
03:52Yung buong isang daang po na bamboo enterprises na identify natin.
03:56And binibigyan po natin ito namang intervention sa abot po ng makakayaan ng ating ahensya.
04:02And isa po sa mga nakita kasi naming problem talaga,
04:06masyadong traditional po yung ating pagpaprocess ng kawayan.
04:10Isang halimbawa po siguro, yung sa preservation and treatment.
04:14Alam nyo po kasi, isa sa pinakamalaking problema ng kawayan,
04:18at least the branding of bamboo, is that it's a poor man's timber.
04:21Medyo mabilis siyang mabukbok.
04:23Nasisira siya ng mas mabilis kumpara sa mga alternatives niya.
04:28So, with the non-science-based na pagpaprocess ito,
04:32lalong bumababa yung imahe ng kawayan.
04:35Ano po, kaya minabuti po nung project natin na magkaroon ng widespread awareness
04:41on proper bamboo preservation and treatment.
04:44Kasi po, alam nyo, ang kawayan sa pananaliksik po namin sa DOSTF-PRDI
04:48is very durable, it's a good alternative to wood,
04:53and at the same time, yung properties po niya,
04:55when processed properly,
04:57pwede pwede nitong palitan yung mga bakal sa industriya.
05:02Kaya po, yung mga binibigay po natin na interventions
05:07ay hindi lang naman po nag-revolve sa preservation and treatment.
05:10Tinutulungan din natin sila to have the necessary linkaging
05:14para po magkaroon sila ng access to possible funding
05:18to mechanize their operations.
05:21Kasi, katulad po na nabanggit ko,
05:23traditional nga ang bamboo processing,
05:25kaya manual operation po tayo nagde-depend.
05:28Meron mo naman po tayo mga ahensya, lalo na sa DOST Laguna,
05:33that could provide assistance on this part.
05:36So, isa lang, ilan lang po yun sa mga halimbawa po
05:39ng assistance na ibinibigay natin.
05:41Very briefly, sir, pwede nyo po bang ibahagi sa amin
05:44kung ano-ano yung mga aktividad na ilulunsad ng FPRDI
05:49kasabay ng celebration po ng Philippine Bamboo Month ngayong September?

05:59this is a two-day event po.
06:00In collaboration po with the Laguna Provincial Bamboo Industry Development Council,
06:06I will be conducting the Bamboo Month celebration of the province of Laguna.
06:11We are branding it as Bamboo Day sa Laguna,
06:15Growing with Purpose, Rooted in Excellence.
06:17So, for day one, we'll be presenting the industry development plan that we drafted.
06:24And then, we'll also receive a message of support from key stakeholders,
06:29particularly from the offices of the provincial governor.
06:34And then, some mentoring series po from successful Bamboo Enterprises
06:39inside and outside Laguna.
06:41And on the second day naman po, this will be a showcase of Bamboo Technologies ng FPRDI.
06:47Actually, hindi lang po ng FPRDI.
06:49Nandun din po ang iba pang mga ahensya ng DOST and academe na maaaring magbahagi
06:56ng kanilang mga teknolohiya pagdating sa kawayan.
06:59There will be a pitching event wherein we'll be selling, actually,
07:05kung ano po yung mga technologies na ito.
07:08And on the afternoon naman po, meron po tayong technology demonstration.
07:12These are hands-on activities na pwedeng makita ng ating mga participants.
07:18Meron din po doong segment tayo wherein we are orienting all of the participants
07:25when it comes to bamboo policies and regulations.
07:29Alam nyo po, maraming hindi nakakaalam, no?
07:31Ang kawayan, bagamat hindi po ito kahoy, it is still a natural resource.
07:36And meron po mga regulasyon sa pag-trade po ng kawayan.
07:41Ano po?
07:42Ano po yung mga technology na i-feature natin?
07:44Diyan po yung mga cutting-edge technologies ng FPRDI,
07:48such as Silyang Pinoy,
07:49which is very much consistent po doon sa hangari ng DepEd
07:54na magkaroon ng sustainable school chairs and desk
07:57para sa lahat po ng mga public schools natin.
08:00Mga bamboo processing and finishing techniques.
08:02Meron din po tayong technology demonstrations on bamboo musical instruments,
08:08bamboo charcoal briquets,
08:11kasi po ang kawayan, pwede din po itong maitulong pagdating po sa industriya naman ng enerhiya.
08:18And lastly, meron din po technology demonstration pagdating naman po sa bamboo shoots,
08:23yung labong, yung masyadong kilala po ito pagdating sa ating mga public.
08:30So, hindi po napapansin masyado pero maganda po yung mga activity nyo po
08:37para mas makilala pa po ang bamboo at ang industriya ng bamboo.
