INTERVIEW: Porthmadog manager Chris Jones shares his thoughts on their dramatic 3-2 win against Llanrwst
Transcript
00:00Friday night under the lights of the triath and a 3-2 win in the end against Clan Roost.
00:05Your recollections of what happened on an exciting night?
00:08Yeah, stressful wasn't it?
00:10Yeah, I thought we started the game well.
00:12We spoke a lot about what they're good at, which is set pieces.
00:15And the disappointing thing really in the first half was after we took the lead,
00:19we sort of allowed them to start getting set pieces and not dealing with them properly,
00:22which leads to more set pieces.
00:23And obviously the first goal comes from that.
00:25And I think the second goal is a set piece in the end as well by the third phase or something like that.
00:30So that's the disappointing part of it.
00:31But I also think in the first half, their shape caused us a lot of problems.
00:35And I've been thinking about another shape all week and then sort of changing my mind.
00:38I went with something different first half and it didn't really work in possession.
00:41So we made the change at half time, changed back to what we should have done from the start, really.
00:46And I thought we were dominant in the second half.
00:48They had one chance near the end, but it wasn't about ability or tactics.
00:53It was about the lad's bottle and desire to go and win the game when they were 2-1 down.
00:57I think we'd have definitely lost that last season.
00:58Great goals.
01:00We were one up and a great goal from Benny Lackens as well.
01:04Yeah, obviously a great time for us, Danny.
01:06That's what he's done.
01:06He played for me for four years before he moved on to Colwell and Bay.
01:09So we know what Danny's about.
01:11That's his first 90 minutes, I think, for a long time.
01:13So he'll get better and better as the weeks go on.
01:17What was the words at half time?
01:18Because from one up to one down, a bit of panic?
01:22Not panic, but I was frustrated at half time.
01:23I was frustrated with the way we were dealing with set pieces, to be honest with you, because
01:26we know it's a massive strength it is, and to concede to is disappointing.
01:30But we've conceded three goals so far in all the league games, so I can't complain too much.
01:35We just spoke about what to do tactically second half, and like I say, I thought we took control
01:39of the game, and it was about courage at the end just to see it out, which we've had a
01:43great save again from Josh Cook near the end to win us the game.
01:45And some players playing out of position as well?
01:47Yeah, I mean, I just mentioned to you then, when we get some of these players back that
01:51we've got, we've got some squads.
01:52So tonight, Griff John had an injury, he's played through the pain barrier for me all night.
01:58I'm really pleased we've got 15 days now, till the next game, because I think the squad
02:02will be a lot healthier next month.
02:03On a happy note, gechol Chris.
