00:00Good evening Sadlers fans, I'm outside the stadium MK where Walsall have just emerged with a 1-0 victory over MK Dons and that makes it back-to-back wins in League 2 and back-to-back clean sheets for the first time in the league in 2025.
00:16And it was Charlie Lakin who netted the decider in Buckinghamshire, a low drive which deflected from around 20 yards out into the far bottom corner.
00:28Walsall did have to contend with a couple of minor injuries Matt Sadler revealed after the game.
00:35Evan Weir suffered a late challenge in the opening exchanges and was still struggling with it for around another 10-15 minutes before he was eventually forced off and Sadler said that he did have a bit of a gash and that started to swell up and that's why he was struggling.
00:52I'd probably expect Sadler to rest him for Tuesday when Walsall travelled to Shrewsbury Town in the EFL Trophy but he's optimistic that he could be available for the visit of Chesterfield in League 2 next weekend.
01:11Jamie Jealous as well has been nursing a groin injury for the past fortnight so that's why he came off at half-time.
01:19Sadler said he was touch and go whether he would have started but he was pleased he was able to get half-time so that he could freshen things up and bring a new energy to the team in the second half in the form of Ryan Finnegan.
01:31But again he's optimistic that he could be in contention for Chesterfield as well.
01:37On the game itself Walsall had the better of things really for the opening sort of 25 minutes.
01:43Charlie Lakin had two great opportunities flashed one over the bar and a half volley and prior to that had forced a really good save out of the MK's Don's goalkeeper Craig McGillivray.
01:55Yeah superb fingertip save and Walsall I guess sort of came away from that after the injury they had to readjust things Priestly Farkerson went to right centre back so Harrison Burke switched over to the left but got to half-time unscathed goalless and Callum Patterson had a really good chance for MK Dons just after the restart stab one wide.
02:22But Walsall showed good energy and like I said Ryan Finnegan came on did really well.
02:29Daniel Karno showed a good burst of pace in behind a few times on his first start that was the only change Matt Sadler made to the 11 from the 1-0 win over Salford City last weekend.
02:41But yeah Finnegan just has a bit of magic really a few nice touches defended really well but it was a sweeping move from Walsall started by Priestly Farkerson.
02:50Presley then managed to find the space in midway into the MK Dons half and yeah fed Charlie Lakin and his low effort took a couple of deflections I believe and then eventually nestled into the far bottom corner.
03:09Walsall had to weather a bit of a storm after taking the lead but defended their bots extremely well.
03:16Aidan Flint was you know a tower in presence once again it seems like I said every week but Priestly Farkerson and Harrison Burke also did extremely well.
03:23But as a collective as well they deserve a lot of credit for the performance.
03:27And yeah I mean Matt Sadler sort of changed things as the game went on just to keep things freshened up Brandon Comley came on Courtney Clark come on for Vincent Harper at left wing back.
03:43Vincent Harper was running a bit of a tightrope as he was already on a booking.
03:47And Miles Roberts produced two really important stops the first of which was you know excellent Nathaniel Mendes Lang probably the biggest threat for MK Dons throughout.
04:00Had a free header at the back post but Roberts stuck out his right leg and produced a fantastic save to keep Walsall in the lead.
04:09And then he managed to beat away another fearsome effort from Alex Gilby.
04:14And yeah I mean you know MK Dons huffed and puffed but in the end Walsall got over the line.
04:19It was nervy at times but it's another three points and yeah attention will turn to the EFL trophy and a trip to Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday night.
