Walsall v Salford - George Bennett match preview
Transcript
00:00Hi Sadlers fans, I spoke to Matt Sadler earlier today ahead of Walsall's lunchtime clash against
00:09Salford City on Saturday and obviously at the top of the agenda was the double injury
00:16blow suffered by Johnny Stuttle and Mason Hancock. Obviously firstly Stuttle, the Bournemouth
00:24Loney went down twice in quick succession during the first half in the 1-0 defeat against
00:30Grimsby Town at Bescott on Tuesday night and the second time that he went down a stretcher
00:36was initially brought over but he was able to limp off the field of play but it looked
00:40a serious one at the time and the same was the case for Mason Hancock who went down after
00:47the break off the ball fell awkwardly really didn't look a good one and he was stretched
00:53off. Matt Sadler said after the game that he expects both to be significant and he kind
00:59of stood by that today so he is anticipating both to be out for what looks like a lengthy
01:04period but he did say that they haven't quite got the full picture just yet and that should
01:11become clear in the next 24 hours so there could be an update on the severity of both issues
01:18after the game on Saturday but he did confirm that both as we kind of suspected anyway were
01:25knee injuries. He did also stress though that both injuries are different in their nature
01:31and there will be more quotes that come out on this tomorrow in the preview but I asked him
01:41about you know how he kind of sees the plan now going forward without both players and
01:49you know he said they are exploring options on the transfer front and in particular went
01:54into detail about his options at left wing back which I posed a question to him and you
02:00know he said there are options there obviously Vincent Harper being the natural one signed earlier
02:06in this summer yet to feature in a matchday squad in the league but did do well on his
02:13solitary showing at Stoke in the League Cup last week so I'll probably expect him to come
02:19into the fold and fill that void although he did also earmark Courtney Clarke who came
02:24on in the game against Grimsby at left wing back so probably Albert Odoma has played there
02:29at some stage in his career. Evan Weir, Charlie Lakin played there a couple of times last
02:35season I remember in particular against MK Dons in the one they'll defeat at the start
02:40of the season last year and Broda Mayer has also played at left wing back both for Walsall
02:46and Cup competitions and during his loan spells in particular at Russian Olympic. So there
02:52are options there but Sadler did say you know the club are exploring their options on the
02:57transfer front so they won't rush into anything for the sake of it but they will be looking in
03:02that area left wing back and up front and seeing what becomes available and if they can get
03:08anything over the line then they will. So you know not a definitive answer in terms of yes
03:13Walsall will be bringing players on board in that position but there is activity going on
03:20behind the scenes to try and obviously come to a solution.
