A 28-year-old woman narrowly escaped death when her husband tried to slit her throat with a kitchen knife at their home in Sungai Ara, Balik Pulau, early Wednesday (Aug 27).

00:10Balikpulau OCPD Assistant Commissioner Sazali Adam said the incident occurred around 6 a.m.
00:16on Wednesday when the victim's mother heard her screams from upstairs.
00:21Rushing to her daughter's room, she found her son-in-law attacking her and attempting
00:25to slit her throat.
00:27She managed to pull her daughter away from the suspect, who then turned the knife on
00:31himself, slashing his left wrist and neck.
00:34Both were rushed to Penang Hospital.
00:36The victim sustained neck injuries but is stable, while the suspect remains conscious but in
00:41critical condition.
00:42ACP Sazali said the couple, aged 28 and 30, are both teachers, married for six years with
00:49one child.
00:51Both studied Mandarin as a second language at a university in Beijing, China, and were living
00:56with the victim's family.
00:58He added that the suspect has no history of mental illness or prior domestic disputes.
01:04The case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder.
