00:00Hello, I'm Jill Buchanan, the editor of the Falkirk Herald and I'm here to tell you about
00:04some of the stories that are making the headlines in our print edition which is on sale now.
00:09This week we tell the encouraging story of a teenager who attended Larborough High School
00:13and is this year's winner of the Dennis Canavan Scholarship. It is awarded to someone who as well
00:18as going on to further or higher education has also served in their community. Despite having
00:24two chronic conditions which meant she spent long spells in hospital, Lauren Anderson has achieved
00:30the results she needs to attend university to study politics and journalism. She has also
00:36helped vulnerable pupils at her school and been a volunteer with her local food bank.
00:41There are also celebrations at Falkirk Nursery, Wellside Kindergarten which has been named Scotland's
00:47best for its perfect marks and its most recent inspection. Still with education, Falkirk Council
00:53is going out for public consultation for its plans for additional support needs in its schools.
01:00We've also all the details of how a group of volunteers came together to take over Bonnybridge
01:04Community Hub from the council as part of its Community Asset Transfer initiative. A teenage hairdresser
01:11from Madison who works at a salon in Bone S is heading to London after she beat the finals of a top
01:17industry competition. There are also the details of three young dancers from the Brays who picked up
01:23titles at recent World Championships. Another protest is planned for this weekend in Falkirk Town Centre
01:30by community activists who two weeks ago made their feelings known outside a former hotel which is
01:35housing asylum seekers. This Saturday they're meeting outside the office of Ewan's Greenbank MP.
01:42We've picked lots of pictures in our galleries from an event at Nshira Park which saw lots of puppies and their owners meet up,
01:50the Lorison Armed Forces Day and a craft fair in Brighton's. Historian Ian Scott is looking at the history of
01:57phone boxes and post boxes which were all made by Caron in Falkirk. And in sport Falkirk Phoenix Stephanie
02:04Kernican is on top of the world after being called up by Boxing Scotland for the World Championships.
