00:00When we found Niko, his face was extremely swollen.

00:08We also noticed that he had a very heavy log chain wrapped around his neck.

00:13That was so heavy, it was actually like weighing down his head.

00:24He appeared to be extremely sad, defeated.

00:33When we tried removing the log chain from his neck, it was so rusted on there.

00:39We actually had to bolt cut it off.

00:41I think he realized we were there to help.

00:43He was ready for us to get him out of there.

00:47When Niko first came into the shelter, he was very shy.

00:53Once everybody gave him some treats and some lovin', he was very happy.

00:57We did make contact with his owners, but they admitted to us that they didn't have the means to take care of him and surrender him.

01:04We noticed that being in his kennel was really shutting him down.

01:08So one of our kennel staff workers, Kelsey, decided on her lunch break she would eat lunch with him.
