00:02If you need a shoulder or an inner thigh to lean on.
00:06What?
00:06I'm kidding.
00:10You guys are so fun together in your scenes.
00:14And when I was doing research, I realized that you'd only been on SNL together for like five episodes total.
00:21I wondered what you remembered from that period about each other and also like how well you knew each other before filming The Roses.
00:30It was one year and five episodes.
00:33Not to just, I'm just saying.
00:35I didn't mean that in a passive aggressive way.
00:39But during that year, I was too scared to talk to him.
00:44Even though he's the nicest man in the world.
00:46I just was intimidated and I didn't know what to say.
00:49I felt I had nothing to contribute and that was true.
00:52But you were so nice to me.
00:55And it was great.
00:57I remember us all watching that year's auditions and everyone who already worked at the show freaking out about Kate and going, holy crap, we have to hire her.
01:06Please tell me that Lauren's going to hire her.
01:09And then he and they did.
01:11And it was wonderful.
01:12And I have nothing but fun, happy memories of us chatting and being in skits together.
01:20And then since then, we bump into each other here and there all the time because we're just, you know, comedy folk.
01:28Yeah.
01:29So Benedict Cumberbatch has hosted SNL a couple of times, but I realized that Olivia Colman has not ever hosted, which seems crazy to me.
01:37Did you guys chat at all about that on set and if she would ever want to do it or like tips for her?
01:45I didn't ask her that.
01:45I didn't ask her that.
01:47She'd be incredible.
01:48We were too busy talking about pottery.
01:51That's true.
01:52Wait, what were you talking about pottery about?
01:53I, you know, doing it.
01:55She would be incredible and maybe, I don't know.
02:00And how much of the, what was the vibe like on set?
02:05How much of it was improv?
02:06How much of it was scripted?
02:07How much did you guys just get to like riff with each other?
02:1099% improv.
02:15No, it's Tony McNamara.
02:16So you want to make sure you get every single one of his words right.
02:20And then once that is achieved, there were certain moments here and there that we would ask permission to try things.
02:28And a little bit of that trickled into the movie.
02:30Yeah, but it was all really there.
02:33And Jay Roach is very collaborative and a very nice man.
02:40And so he would just sort of let you try what you wanted to try.
02:45And it was a joy, just a joy.
02:49What was your favorite day on set filming?
02:56There's this big dinner scene at the end of the movie.
02:59And that was several days of shooting.
03:03It was wonderful because we got to watch everyone do their thing.
03:09And also we got to be sitting down the whole time.
03:14And I love that.
03:15And I got to eat green beans until I was ill.
03:19And I loved that as well.
03:21Yeah, it was nice for the whole primary cast to be together and sort of hang out.
03:26And in between setups, really kind of get to know each other and chat.
