At a press briefing hosted by Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Thursday, Hennepin Healthcare trauma surgery provider Jon Gayken spoke about his experience on the way to Annunciation Catholic School to respond to Wednesday's shooting.

00:00Given the number of casualties, how remarkable is it that we are not hearing about more fatalities?
00:13Yeah, I mean I prayed about that on the way in yesterday when we were working on it about how this was going to work out and what this was going to look like.
00:22Because, you know, there were a lot of gunshot wounds in places that were meant to kill people.
00:28And, you know, if there is such a thing as a silver lining to this, there was less casualties than what possibly could have been.
00:36So, yeah, it could have been a lot of fatalities.
00:43And it doesn't take away from the pain that those that did not survive are going through.
00:48But this was meant to kill people.
00:53I think that also it's really a testament to the system, the trauma system that we've built in this organization.
01:01I would also say that the training that the kids did, surprisingly, paid off.
01:06They all laid on the floor.
01:08They covered each other up.
01:10That was key.
