The defense ministers of UK and Japan released a joint statement calling for closer military cooperation in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific. The ministers also welcomed a British carrier group into Tokyo Harbor for the first time since World War II, as well as the first landing of a UK fighter jet on a Japanese carrier.

00:00President Lai Ching-de has thanked Japan and the UK for their commitment to peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
00:08It comes after Japan and the UK's defence ministers said they are opposed to any use of force to change the cross-strait status quo.
00:18In the same joint statement, they called for peace in the Taiwan Strait and for deeper cooperation in the Indo-Pacific.
00:24The ministers also welcomed a UK carrier strike group to Japan where for the first time a British F-35B fighter jet landed on a Japanese carrier.
00:36It's a show of growing military collaboration.
