00:00Hello and welcome to this Jane's Weather Update for New South Wales. For Friday we have got a cold outbreak that is moving through.
00:07How can you tell? First of all, all the warnings in through here for damaging wind gusts right into the southeast there.
00:13But also it's this speckled cloud that is over the bite indicating just how chilly that air is.
00:18It has come straight up from Antarctica and all of that is going to be moving eastwards.
00:23So let's have a look at the cold air first of all. This is a thing known as thickness which shows us just how unstable the air is but also how cold it is and how low the snow can fall.
00:34We've got low level snow across the southeast but look how far north this is extending up the New South Wales ranges.
00:40So we might get some unusual out of season snow because it is the very end of August.
00:45The calendar is that but the weather system does not care.
00:48So there is the chance for some snow into Saturday as that moves through.
00:52Let's go day by day. The main focus on Friday is here across the southeast.
00:57You'll notice it increases as it moves to the western slopes, increases as it gets to the ranges and decreases as it goes into the east.
01:04This is not a system for the east coast. That's on the drier side of the ranges this time.
01:08This is a western system.
01:09So here we have on Friday, here we have on Saturday.
01:13So all of that extending up to about here but not quite all the way to the north and not moving into the eastern parts.
01:19Okay, into Sunday. Let's keep this here. We've got high pressure that is now in through here.
01:23A bit of a trough forming in there. It's mainly over the southeast that we're seeing this next little disturbance move through.
01:28So there's Sunday into Monday, just a little bit in these western parts.
01:32However, if we move into southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales, there's our trough that's running in through there because the high is now here.
01:40We've got onshore winds, so we might see a little bit of activity, mainly in Queensland, just spilling over into northern New South Wales.
01:46That's Monday. Let's now have a look at Tuesday.
01:49That situation weakens. Very coastal. Not very much. Just a little bit of leftovers here.
01:54That's Tuesday. Wednesday, the next one comes through.
01:57Again, just in the south. We're all back to dry further north.
02:00That's Wednesday. Very large high pressure system sitting over us.
02:03So we'll feel that on Thursday, that high is moving out to the east, and next Friday, we might start to see the next weather system coming through.
02:10What is that going to add up to?
02:12In the northeast, not a lot. This is not a big system as it comes through Monday into Tuesday.
02:17In the south, it is nice. We've had our falls so far this week.
02:21We've got the big burst that's moving through now.
02:231 to 5, 5 to 10, 10 to 15.
02:26Heaps up on the ranges here, decreasing as you head further north.
02:30Hardly anything east of the ranges, that is the dry side, so it dries out as it moves across.
02:35Let's see what that means for Sydney.
02:37And are you ready for some cold air?
02:39We're not seeing the wet weather.
02:40We're not even really seeing the cloud with that, but we do feel that bite in the wind.
02:45How do we know we're feeling that?
02:46We look at the dew point temperature.
02:48That's how much moisture is in the air.
02:49When that is really, really low, we don't have a lot of moisture to keep us warm.
02:54So we're going to feel that bite.
02:5620 top today.
02:5717 is the top tomorrow.
02:58A mix of sun and cloud, maybe the very light shower coming through.
03:02Winds gusting 43 k's an hour from the west-southwest.
03:05Dew points low.
03:06So what is that going to actually feel like?
03:08Yes, it's already chilly, but it feels like temperature is in the high single digits.
03:14So watch out for that as it goes through.
03:16No wet weather, but yes, you will definitely feel the bite.
03:19Let's head back to that.
03:20We've got sunshine returning.
03:21Temperature's warming back up again a little bit.
03:23And nothing major on the horizon at all.
03:26As always, head to farm and long weather for the latest.
