During a press conference on Thursday, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara answered a question of why the shooter barricaded the doors to the church before shooting.
Transcript
00:00Do details come out about the moments inside the church?
00:03Yes.
00:03About the doors being locked.
00:05Now that might have protected the kids.
00:07Could you talk to us about that?
00:09So the question was about the doors being locked at the church.
00:14Annunciation Church had a practice that once Mass began,
00:17they locked the doors of the church.
00:20This incident occurred shortly after the Mass was beginning.
00:24So there's no question that the fact that the doors were locked likely saved additional lives.
00:32At the same time, we also know that the shooter intended to barricade
00:37and did barricade the doors on the same side of the church where the shooting occurred.
00:43So what's particularly heinous and cowardly about this
00:49is these children were slaughtered by a shooter who could not see them.
00:54He was standing outside of the building, firing through very narrow church windows
00:58on the level where they would line up with the pews.
01:02And even ultimately, when he got to the rear of the church,
01:06was an entryway that's basically all glass
01:11and fired out the window where a person could walk in,
01:15ultimately did not walk in.
