During a "Fight Oligarchy" Rally in Viroqua, Wisconsin, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) railed against the Trump Administration and urged supporters to fight back.

00:00Alright, let me just conclude by telling you what you already know.
00:13These are difficult times for our country.
00:17But what you also know is this is not the first time in American history
00:21that we have had to overcome crises.
00:25You know, going back from the American Revolution,
00:27and sometimes we forget about this small group of people living in a colony
00:32stood up against the most powerful military force in the world,
00:36the British Empire.
00:36They beat them.
00:38We had people in the abolitionist movement in the 1840s with great courage
00:42taking on slavery.
00:45You know, we had workers fighting for workers' rights,
00:48taking on their bosses, getting shot down, getting jailed.
00:52We had women fighting for the right to vote and for other basic rights.
00:55We had the gay community standing up and demanding the right to love people
01:00who they wanted to love.
01:08So we have had to struggle.
01:10This country, that's what it is.
01:12If you want justice, Frederick Douglass, I don't know if I'm paraphrasing,
01:16but basically what he said,
01:17freedom is never given to anybody.
01:20It's never given to you.
01:21You've got to stand up and fight for it.
01:23And that's where we are right now.
01:26The bad news is we have a demagogue in the White House,
01:30somebody who does not believe in democracy,
01:33somebody who scapegoats people,
01:35tries to divide us up,
01:36which is really a very ugly thing to do.
01:40You know, to divide us.
01:40We're supposed to hate this group of people.
01:42We're supposed to hate that group of people.
01:43And then we lose our focus on what we should be doing.
01:48Instead of hating each other,
01:49let's come together and fight for an economy
01:51and a government that works for all of us.
01:53So the bad news is we have a demagogue as president,
02:08but I will tell you, again, from personal experience,
02:12last night, just last night, we're in Davenport, Iowa,
02:15just, you know, huge turnout.
02:17All over this country, people demand and want
02:22a government that works for all of us and not just a few.
02:26They do not want too many people in Wisconsin and Vermont
02:30fought and died to defend American democracy
02:34and we're not going to let Trump or anybody else
02:36take that away from us.
02:38So we've got a lot of work.
02:46We've got a lot of work on our hands,
02:49but I believe that on almost every major issue out there,
02:53the American people are with us.
02:56So let's stand up, let us fight back,
02:59let us create the kind of economy and government
03:02that the American people deserve.
