00:05the Sudanese cabinet has held its first meeting in the city.
00:08Chaired by the country's new transitional prime minister, Kamali Driss,
00:12it was described by state media as a symbolic step towards the return of state institutions to the city.
00:18The government has been operating from Port Sudan since it was forced to relocate
00:22following the outbreak of the civil war in April 2023.
00:25It aims to return to Khartoum full-time from October.
00:30The 22 ministers reportedly discussed their plans for the current year
00:33and steps towards achieving peace across Sudan.
00:36Idris said key priorities include post-war reconstruction, economic revival,
00:41improving security and supporting the voluntary return of displaced citizens.
00:46He was sworn in in May before Transitional Sovereignty Council Chairman General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
00:51Since the war erupted, Khartoum has been a battleground between the Sudanese army
00:56and the paramilitary rapid support forces, which controlled much of the city.
01:00But in recent months, the army has gained the upper hand,
