Prisons Dept releases 626 inmates on licence for National Day celebrations

A total of 626 inmates nationwide will be released on licence in conjunction with the 68th National Day, said Prisons Department deputy commissioner-general (Community) Ahmad Faudzi Awang.  Ahmad Faudzi on Thursday (Aug 28) said the recidivism rate under the Licensed Release of Prisoners (PBSL) programme remains low at 0.8%, reflecting the success of rehabilitation and employer support, adding that the department is working with various ministries to expand job opportunities for ex-inmates and reduce reliance on foreign labour.
