00:00So Dave, you're back home in Sunderland for the summer. How's it been being back?
00:05Oh, it's been a lot of sirens.
00:09But no, it's been great. I've probably been here about six weeks. I've been here about three weeks.
00:16Maybe three weeks already. I just came straight off a European tour.
00:20Straight to Sunderland. And then I've been going a lot down the beach.
00:26Having coffee at five stores, a bite to eat.
00:30Been eating in the sheepfolds, you know, at Bebo's Hysteria and the Ember and various other places.
00:38Having a great pie and trying out everything, basically.
00:45And obviously going next door to Pop Rex for some great coffee and some poached eggs on toast.
00:54And I've just been sort of like hanging about doing the odd thing.
00:59Obviously, I never stopped writing songs. So when I'm not doing that, I'm like playing the guitar and writing a song or whatever.
01:06And now I'm about to add on to this degree course here in Sunderland about songwriting and collaborations.
01:18So about to start doing that. And then the students will be able to work with that when they start in September.
01:28And then I'm going to play at the fire station. Two nights where I just play all Bob Dylan songs.
01:36And on the fifth, the first night, and simultaneously in America, they're broadcasting.
01:42Me doing that hour long live Dylan show with a string quartet, piano, pedal steel guitar.
01:51And I've used local musicians here. Sunderland Symphony Orchestra with a string quartet made up from there.
02:03And, you know, Barry Hyde on piano. He's great. And then the young guy from Leeds is coming down to play Pedal of Steel.
02:15Steven Hickam Jr. And I'm just here to have a good time.
02:20And especially, I met this great guy in a cafe, but I don't know. It's a surprise for the night.
02:25But he's, I want to say anything about him. I tend to meet people in cafes.
02:32It's funny when I did this show on American television, that's coming out of this live show.
02:39About a week before I met a guy, he came over and he said, hi, are you a musician?
02:46I said, yeah, are you? He said, yeah. I said, who do you play for?
02:51He said, Willie Nelson. And I said, oh, great. How long have you played with him?
02:56He said, 50 years. So when he was in the audience when I was doing this live TV thing.
03:03So I said, oh, now I'm going to invite up this guy I just met in the cafe.
03:07He's a harmonica player. And then that's in the show. So I do have surprise things.
03:13I like that. Surprises.
