00:00This is the latest development in what has been around a four-year battle by campaign group
00:11Save Wimbledon Park to prevent Wimbledon Tennis' expansion plans. SWP, as they are also known,
00:20has announced it has applied for permission to appeal to the Court of Appeals. A judicial review
00:29decision made earlier this year which upheld the decision of the Greater London Authority
00:36to award Planning Commission to the All England Club to build 39 new grass courts, including
00:44an 8,000-seat stadium on the site of the former Wimbledon Park Golf Club. SWP argues the scale
00:54and nature of the development is in breach of local, regional and national planning policies
01:01and would set a precedent for other green spaces in London and around the country. A decision on
01:11whether it can appeal is expected in two to four months, with a hearing likely to be next year if
01:19it is successful. SWP said it has been advised that there is a realistic prospect of success.
01:28A Wimbledon spokesperson said that following that High Court's dismissal, on all counts of
01:34the recent judicial review, it is clear that they have robust planning permission.
