SHARK RESCUED FROM HAIR BAND
WITH VID
BY Mikey Jones
This is the moment a shark is rescued from being stuck in a hair band.
The spotted shark can be seen stuck in the band, before it's cut away and returned to the ocean.
In the video, filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, Tsepo Mlambo can be seen freeing the shark.
Jesse Grosch, 29, caught the rescue on camera while working in the protected marine area documenting fish.
Jesse said: “We run a collaboration project.
“We catch, tag, and release fish caught inside the marine protected area and document their sizes.
“In this clip, my colleague caught a Spotted Gully shark, and to our surprise, it had a hair band wrapped around its snout, passing through its mouth and covering one eye.
“We removed the band, took measurements, and released the shark.
“I was really confused at first because I didn't know what we were looking at until we realised it was a hair band.
“I felt quite disappointed after that because we don't realise how much our pollution affects the ocean until we encounter something like that.
“It is quite rare to encounter something like this, but you must consider how many other animals have been in this situation that we don't know about.
“I really just want the video to be shown all over to inform people everywhere about the impact that something as small and simple as a hair band has on the ocean and its marine life.”
