An unemployed man suspected of fatally slashing his wife at their home in Bukit Gambir on Monday (June 2) has been remanded for seven days to assist with the investigation.

00:08has been remanded for seven days by the Thangkak Magistrates' Court.
00:13Magistrate Lee Kim Keat granted the police's request on Tuesday to remand the 33-year-old
00:18suspect who is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for Murder and Section 435
00:26for mischief by fire. Earlier, the suspect appeared calm when he arrived at the court compound
00:33at around 8.30 a.m. under tight police security. However, while in the court lock-up, he suddenly
00:40screamed and began chanting loudly. The remand hearing lasted about 20 minutes before the suspect
00:46was taken back in a police truck for further questioning. He is accused of slashing his wife
00:52at their home in Bukit Gambia, then attempting to set fire to his mother-in-law's house in
00:58Lengapago, about 40 kilometers away. The arson attempt failed, but several vehicles outside
01:04the house were burned.
