00:00hello fellas thanks for having me on lovely to get the opportunity to say congratulations
00:24on making 100 episodes of the press box excellent achievement fully deserved congratulations
00:32you're doing a great job all of you i think you've been well trained and ben i reckon you're doing a
00:37superb job in fact i reckon you may well be the second best host that our sports cast has ever
00:42had so well done i'd like to see a little bit more of tasmania's largest participation sport if you
00:48can squeeze it in between your various segments speaking of which i've got a segment for you
00:53fellas i call it rob's incredibly hard number of local heroes quizology 100 episodes today 100
01:01also happens to be the exact number of gratuitous brighton and hove albion references that i
01:07managed to get into the examiner or the sports cast and since i'm unlikely to be on for another 100
01:12episodes i think there's always time for one more so uh hang on sorry somebody else wants to join us
01:19what's that what's that bino bear sorry say that again bino bear show ben the program the program
01:28oh yes you mean the program from when brighton beat spurs yeah that's the one thanks bino bear
01:34so thanks for having me on fellas best of luck for the next 100 from all of us keep podcasting
01:41g'day guys happy 100 uh yeah it's a pleasure to be asked to share a couple of fond memories and uh
01:50yeah i certainly remember the night that we were watching uh the matildas win the uh their quarter
01:56final against france in the 2023 uh world cup on home soil uh and yeah it was it was incredible there
02:04was 20 penalties taken australia's courtney vine um slammed at home uh on uh australia's third attempt
02:12to win so uh on arts end of things uh we it was about 9 30 or 10 at night and we were in uh the
02:20empty office uh it was a saturday night uh the three of us were standing around watching the tv screen
02:27above us uh had put down the tools obviously um and uh anyway the tension uh the thrilling tension
02:35obviously built with kenzie arnold's um thrilling saves and and by the time uh vine put through the
02:43goal uh yeah we came together for a big group hug and lots of yelling and um cheering and um yeah we
02:50sort of did a bit of a circle in the group hug uh and yeah it was it was an electric fire electrifying
02:57moment really special and one of the best uh moments i've had in a sports journalism team so
03:03so thank you uh to you both ben and josh and rob um wasn't working that night with us but i want to
03:11certainly give a shout out to him we we had some um great work memories obviously but i i guess the
03:18biggest thing for me was um yeah the memories we shared um yeah the the first time that he got to
03:25meet my daughter olivia not long after she was born and then uh yeah i just remember how sweet
03:32and caring and interested he was and so that was a wonderful experience and mate you just have the
03:39biggest heart and i've always appreciated your support uh it was great it's been great to see you
03:44you get back into the hiking and that you're doing well thanks guys enjoy the app
03:49welcome my normal to another episode of the press box it is of course episode 100 an extra special
04:00episode as you might have just heard from our former colleagues rob shaw and brian allen it's a
04:06pleasure to be with you of course not for the 100th time but certainly for episode 100 ryan bentley
04:11and josh partridge along with myself ben hand for a bit of a special episode uh of the examiner's
04:17press box it's a show that's lasted uh more than two years uh inexplicably uh i'd argue uh but
04:24through it all we've we've covered some of um australia's and tasmania specifically biggest sporting
04:31moments um you look at the creation of the tasmania devils the champions that is the tasmania jack
04:37jumpers the tigers women in the wncl three times no less uh we've got aiden o'connor we've got you
04:44know the hurricanes actually we've got uh riley sanders colby mckertscher ari showmaker and james
04:49league all in the one draft we've had so many amazing moments and this episode's managed or this
04:55episode not not specifically this show has managed to cover every single bit of it uh it's been a pleasure
05:01to be with you guys throughout the whole entire time um but before we get kicked off with any of
05:07uh with any of our proceedings we're going to go to another press box host and that is of course
05:13hamish gill hello handy pardo and the big rizzle diesel uh congratulations on 100 episodes of the
05:22press box now i would have loved to have been out there with you guys today um but you asked me to
05:28stay here in the press box studio uh for a special job which was to try and uh i've been on here like
05:35all day trying to find a kind of bad episode of the press box i didn't realize there was a wild goose
05:41chase because there isn't one i found so many great moments including um that time that you guys let me
05:47come on the show and i told uh quite a lengthy story but a heart a very heart kind of warming story
05:53about sunny whiting um so i wanted to ask you guys what has been your favorite story that has come
06:00out of the press box over to you guys
06:03thank you hamish so the uh question obviously boys our favorite anecdote uh i'm going to kick off with
06:12you josh right over this this sort of two and a half year period what have you what comes to mind
06:17about some of your favorite stories yeah well i think um not necessarily stories we've written it's just
06:22the people we deal with all the time and and that kind of thing i think uh some of the things that
06:26come to mind is you go interview footy coaches straight after the game their wives and kids are
06:30here or whatever and they just beeline straight towards you which is which is kind of interesting
06:34it's kind of weird but it's very funny um another another thing that i had was uh i entered a press
06:39conference one day with mitch robinson and uh we might even be able to find the video but he goes
06:43oh lonnie boy are we oh what do you mean by that mitch but no it's um it's been incredibly fun
06:50over the last two years doing this uh almost weekly i think it was we've missed 21 weeks it's
06:55been 121 weeks since we started the press box so uh yeah uh it's been very fun doing this uh
07:01weekly with you boys and obviously brian and hamish and rob yeah absolutely and you're obviously
07:06you've been with us for a lot short amount of time um but have already made plenty of memories
07:11any stories that spring out to mind uh yeah the one i think driving back from campbelltown after the
07:16ntfa community rep series and changed the lucky ball you were changed to lucky dawn off and the
07:20excitement in his voice was something to behold he was couldn't be contained he just went off for
07:25two and a half minutes three minutes on the phone it was very good it was very funny listening on my
07:30drive home so it was really yeah that's probably the highlight so far for me yeah absolutely that was
07:35quite a game some stories themselves of course i remember um when the paris olympics was ongoing we had
07:41uh georgia baker when got involved in an international press conference and um these are really highly
07:49run fast run things these um athletes only get 20 minutes at a time because they need to get through
07:53so many athletes uh all at one time and of her 20 minutes at least 10 to 15 minutes was spent talking
08:00about her local butcher uh the sausage shop of course the one and only uh there were some great memories
08:07out of that there was another one that comes to mind former ntfa president scott rigby when asked
08:13how many people he thinks might attend the ntfa grand final uh premier division grand final he went
08:19well if i've had six beers maybe six thousand if i had ten beers maybe ten thousand we're gonna be rocking
08:24up so uh it is um i suppose emblematic of the community that's made up northern tasmania uh just such
08:31a footy loving community uh really down to earth and we've been uh very lucky to be a part of
08:37it of course um and funnily enough that day ten thousand people were at the utah stadium so well
08:42done scott exactly yeah oh you did there and it's not just our own favorite anecdotes we've obviously
08:49as i mentioned right at the top there covered some really awesome moments in sport um it really feels
08:55like right now is about as historic a time in in northern tasmania sport and just tasmanian sport in
09:00general um while we've been here covering it josh is there i suppose any particular sport
09:07sporting moment that you really remember uh or you know or is it something that maybe
09:12is sort of calm that you really feel like could really shape how this state is viewed yeah i think
09:17um talk about things i remember um i think the weirdness of covert is a massive one um obviously
09:23we didn't get to do a whole lot of sport through there and it was just covering whatever you could
09:27cover for a bit there but uh when footy finally resumed uh out here at utah stadium similar weather
09:32actually funnily enough um lonnie verse north in the 2020 tsl grand final and that's where uh
09:37lonnie won through and won their first um tsl grand final in quite a few years and it was
09:42it was crazy to see uh i guess the celebrations and mitch thought was embracing nearly anyone you can
09:48find to to after they won that flag so they'd come close a few times they'd come right from the
09:53bottom a little bit there as well so um yeah it was it was a massive day and it was um yeah it was
09:57awesome to be a part of absolutely crazy obviously the afl finals um held here as well uh quite a
10:03time that was really in the world i was living in melbourne at that stage i know i was looking on with
10:07uh eyes that were very much uh more uh of jealousy than anything else being in the sporting capital
10:14ryan uh any i suppose big moments in recent history that you always remember yeah i don't know so much
10:20of its moments but obviously like the wnbl team recently being announced for tasmania everything being
10:25a tasmanian seeing over the last five years all these tasmanian teams being announced like
10:29i couldn't imagine as a 10 year old having what is it now three three new tasmanian teams in national
10:35competitions plus of course the tigers and the tigers and the men's and women's but yeah i think the
10:40future of tassie sport for me and seeing so seeing the wnbl recently i think i think that's the most exciting
10:45thing for me so far yeah absolutely and something that i will always remember is a moment that happened
10:51actually just over there in that room i know you guys can't see but uh here at utas stadium was one
10:57of six sites when the tasmania devils football club was announced for the first time it was launched they
11:03tried to keep the secret as possible i'm not sure they got it quite a percent but it was a mighty effort
11:07nonetheless and uh really historic uh moment for tasmania it's obviously a sport that's had a long
11:14tradition in this state but obviously obviously no afl club to represent it and to see uh you know so many
11:21kids members of the footy community there that night to unleash the logo the colors um it really
11:27felt like a defining moment i will of course mention uh two moments as well in recent time the tasmania
11:34jack jumpers nbl championship i remember exactly where i was when jack mcveigh hit that shot from
11:40half court to win the game and uh yeah it was just uh quite remarkable and then arianne titmus continuing
11:45her legacy uh as one of australia's greatest ever olympians um in the pool at paris last thing for
11:53us today because it is a bit of a different episode is just a big thank you um you know we do this show
11:59not because we have to um but because we want to we we love doing it but uh i know from my own
12:06personal perspective this wouldn't be going on if we didn't have you watching us week in week out and
12:10uh providing us with plenty of uh great stories along the way uh i know josh you know we've often
12:16had genuinely had conversations straight with people giving us some reviews about how the show
12:21is going i know numerology yeah we love the press box but uh not numerology so thank you manny cocker
12:26for that one but it will survive anyway and you know right obviously you've only been here a short
12:32time but i think you've really um had an indelible impact on the show so uh without further ado we'll catch
12:38you guys for the next one
