00:00So we're here at Questing Night Games in Wellington and we're with Alan. Hello, sir.
00:04Hello there. How are you doing today? Good?
00:05Yeah, good, thank you, Alan.
00:07Alan, I've just found out you've been here, this is going to be your 31st year.
00:11That's right, yeah. 31 years in Wellington and we've been basically building up our gaming community for that length of time.
00:17That's crazy. And how has the world of gaming changed over those years?
00:23It's changed quite a lot.
00:24Some of the companies that we deal with are now multi-million companies like Games Workshop, for example,
00:29and people like that. And people are now looking for a totally different market for gaming,
00:34a lot more interaction with families and things like that.
00:36Yeah. So how does it work then? So do people come here and game here? Do you have gaming sessions and so on?
00:44We can do, yes. We do some introductory gaming sessions here, but mainly we send people to our club venue,
00:49which is just up the road at the Belmont Hall in Wellington.
00:52Okay.
00:52And people can play there and join the club. That's called Stag's Wargaming Society.
00:57Yeah. And that meets every second weekend.
01:00And how many people do you have roughly involved in that?
01:02At a meeting, we can have around anything from 20 to 40 people.
01:06Yeah. Good going. And it's very interactive, isn't it? It's good. In this world where kids,
01:12you know, parents are struggling to get kids to come away from a computer and they don't even see a friend,
01:16this is a good way of having that entertaining world of gaming, but also that, you know, that nice social element.
01:24Very much. It relates back to its history, basically, from the old Airfix days.
01:30Airfix kits, people building kits, painting kits.
01:33Nowadays, Warhammer is the big name.
01:35There's a lot of other companies as well that we sell from.
01:37And it's people assembling kits, painting models, collecting and playing.
01:42And you've got a fantastic display of painted models here, haven't you?
01:47Thank you very much indeed.
01:48That's part of our job is to paint models for different companies, display them in store.
01:52Yeah. And do you get some people, that's just the side they're into?
01:57They do the painting and not particularly, it's all about the painting rather than the gaming, yeah?
02:01That's right. Some people prefer to just do the painting side of the hobby, the collecting and things like that,
02:06and the displaying of the miniatures. Some prefer to do the gaming.
02:09So what sort of, just talk us through some of the stuff you've got on the shelves here then.
02:14So what's kind of popular?
02:15Some of the more popular ranges are the Games Workshop Warhammer range.
02:18Yeah.
02:19This one has been going for a long time.
02:21It's got a very good customer base now, and they'll be releasing series on Amazon Prime and things like that that support the systems.
02:27Wow, didn't they?
02:28So that's a very big one.
02:29One of the other big ones we've got at the moment is from this company over here, and this is Conquest,
02:35and that's from a company called Parabellum in Greece.
02:38They make some absolutely beautiful miniatures.
02:41Some of their stuff is really nice for display and for gaming.
02:46So are they quite a new one on the scene?
02:48About five years old.
02:49Yeah.
02:50And Games Workshop, where are they based?
02:52They're based in Nottingham.
02:54Are they a British company then?
02:55Yeah, they are.
02:56Along with a lot of other companies like North Star Miniatures and people like that,
02:59Bittrex, all well-known gaming names.
03:02I see a British company doing well, isn't it?
03:04It is.
03:04And is it very much a British thing, this?
03:06Or has it gone across the pond to other countries, kind of the whole gaming?
03:11It's worldwide.
03:12Yeah.
03:12A lot of these companies now ship to America, and they ship worldwide.
03:15Wow, okay, interesting.
03:17And are Games Workshop the biggest internationally as well then?
03:22I would say they are one of the biggest, yes.
03:24They're never worth billions.
03:25Wow, fantastic.
03:27Well, we'll let you show us some of your fantastic models.
03:31And so, guys, if people want to get involved in the world of gaming, what's that club called again?
03:36It's called Staggs World Gaming Society, and it meets at the Belmont Hall every second weekend.
03:40Fantastic.
03:41Thank you, sir.
