00:01The Supreme Court insists on halting Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment a day before the Senate is expected to vote on whether to proceed with her trial.
00:09In a press briefer on Tuesday, August 5, the High Court reiterated that its order, first released on July 25, is immediately executory.
00:19This after the House of Representatives and other petitioners appealed the ruling, which said current impeachment proceedings against Duterte were unconstitutional.
00:27The SC had ruled that a year-long ban on impeaching Duterte was triggered when the House shelled three petitions it received before the one it approved and sent to the Senate in February.
00:37SC spokesperson Camille Ting said the appeal should not prevent the implementation of the High Court's decision.
00:44Meanwhile, a group that includes former Supreme Court Justices Antonio Carpio and Conchita Carpio Morales is petitioning the High Court for a status quo ante-order.
00:52This is to prevent the Senate from following the Supreme Court ruling and voting to dismiss the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte.
01:00The petitioners say the Senate must maintain the status quo when it goes into a vote on Wednesday, August 6.
01:06They argue that the Senate must proceed with Duterte's impeachment trial while the Supreme Court's ruling is under appeal.
