00:00Hi, I'm Andrew Trendle. You're watching NME. We are on the final day of Reading Festival 2025 with Amalyn the Sniffers.
00:13G'day. Hello. Hello. Are you okay sharing that mic? Absolutely. Yes. I share everything. Yes.
00:20Everything. What's it like on the tour bus? Do you guys quite, is it quite like packed in in there?
00:25It's nice. We got a nice lounge. We're really, really happy with the couches on the on the lounge.
00:32They sort of like rise up in the corner. Yeah. So you can sort of like lean.
00:37The lights only stay blue in the lounge though. That's my qualm.
00:41It's a bit porn movie. Yeah.
00:43But do you find like with each album does the tour bus get a little bit more decadent, a little bit more bougie?
00:48I can't remember the last album.
00:52No, we're getting nicer. We sort of have like a different one every time.
00:56But on the last tour I found out that you could get like a, we could get a graphic attached to the bus.
01:02Oh wow. We could get like a band logo or something. Yeah, like a wrap.
01:06What did you go for? Well, we haven't done it yet.
01:08A puma? The first thing that everyone, well the first thing you'd think would be that we get an Amalyn the Sniffers one.
01:13But then we don't want everyone to know that it's Amalyn the Sniffers bus. Yeah.
01:16So maybe we could get like Oasis or something like that. Bastille or something like that.
01:19Yeah, yeah, yeah. Mastodon.
01:22But, so it's the last day of Reading, which means you've already smashed Leeds Festival, right? How did it go?
01:27It was good. Yeah, real fun. Good crowd. Yeah, no complaints.
01:31They're quite feral in Yorkshire, right?
01:33Yeah, that's what they say.
01:35But you guys are Reading and Leeds veterans?
01:38No.
01:39This is your first time?
01:40This is our first time in Reading.
01:42It's our first time at the Reading and Leeds Festival.
01:45We've played Leeds before. I've no idea where Reading is.
01:48Where it's...
01:50It's like west of London?
01:51Not London, but basically London.
01:52Yeah, right, right. There you go. Yeah.
01:54Never been here before. I've heard a lot about it.
01:57But have you explored? Have you tried some of the famous Reading and Leeds cuisine?
02:01No. Well, we tried the catering. Did you have lunch?
02:04I haven't had lunch today, no.
02:05In Leeds we got those chicken wings.
02:08Really good desserts.
02:10You've never had a giant Yorkshire pudding?
02:12Have you?
02:13I have, yeah. So good. Love that.
02:14Love, love, love, love.
02:16They get a bad rap sometimes.
02:18What's the egg that we were always having at Ross' place?
02:22Scotch egg.
02:23Is that a Yorkshire thing?
02:25Maybe a Scottish.
02:26Ant is on a postcard. Where does the Scotch egg hail from?
02:29He was eating them a lot. So it made me think they were from Yorkshire.
02:33But it's been an amazing summer for you guys.
02:36You smashed Glastonbury.
02:37I saw you guys at the Finsbury Park Fontaines DC show.
02:43Long summer. How's it been?
02:45Yeah, it's been... Long is a good description for it.
02:48You know, we had some illness on that tour.
02:50But yeah, we got through in the end because we're professionals.
02:54And now we're here still being professionals. It's good.
02:56Yeah.
02:57What I really liked about the Fontaines DC Finsbury Park show was just like the solidarity from like one act to another.
03:03For like for kneecap, there was Bob Villan in the crowd. There was, you know, every act took the time to like, you know, speak their truth.
03:09And you guys have always been really good at speaking your truth and speaking your mind.
03:14But I'm just wondering if like with everything that's going on, have you found much resistance at the moment?
03:18Because some bands are, some bands aren't. But how's it been for you?
03:21Um, no, it's been it's been good for us.
03:23I think like we're really lucky that our fans are all very compassionate people is what I find.
03:29And, you know, we all care about everything that's going on in the world.
03:34And geez, there's a lot. So I'm not going to list it all.
03:37But yeah, we'll see. I mean, we go to Berlin in two days.
03:40So, oh, yeah, they're quite strict there. Yeah, we'll see.
03:44But you haven't had like the man saying, don't say this, don't say that. Just like crack on.
03:48Um, you know, I managed to say that when we have like our visa applications pending.
03:52We got them approved.
03:54And what's it like backstage with Fontaines DC?
03:58Does it get Larry or are they just like reading Ulysses?
04:01Um, yeah, like we got wild.
04:04We did for them.
04:06Yeah, we did for them on their behalf. That was a big day for them, you know.
04:09So they're all on their best behavior.
04:11But yeah, no, they're lovely guys.
04:13We get to do a few festivals with them that tour.
04:16So, yeah, it was nice. But yeah, we do all the partying for them.
04:20You said you got Berlin coming up.
04:21Then from the Googling I've done, you've got a bit of a break.
04:25Kind of.
04:26And then back for Ali Pali.
04:28Yeah, Ali Pali. Yep. October 25th.
04:30But that's huge, man. I mean, Ali Pali.
04:32I think recently I've seen like Iggy Pop and people like that there.
04:36I mean, any plans to kind of pull out the stops and make like,
04:40do you feel the pressure of it being the biggest animal show?
04:42Or are you just going to show up and is it just another gig?
04:45Yeah, I'm sure there's pressure on us.
04:47I mean, we don't really know what to do when it's the biggest one ever.
04:50We don't know what to do.
04:51Earlier this year, we did Sydney Mine Music Bowl in Melbourne.
04:55Yeah, how many is that?
04:56That was, we did 9,000 there.
04:58Wow.
04:59And that was the thing.
05:00It was like, you want to do anything special?
05:01I don't know.
05:02I don't know.
05:03You know.
05:04Yeah.
05:05If you want to get a thrust in, we'll get a thrust in.
05:07I don't know.
05:08Yeah, we'll get a big LED screen.
05:09We can play the darts.
05:10But yeah, it should be good.
05:12I've never been to a gig.
05:13None of us have been to a gig at Ali Pali before.
05:15We've played Jules Holland there, but we only watched the darts there.
05:19We're going to hit a bullseye.
05:21Yeah.
05:22We're going to give everyone a dart and they can throw it whenever they want during the
05:27show at us.
05:28Put a big dart board on your head.
05:31Selfish question given that 2025 has already been such a huge year for you guys given,
05:36you know, playing off the back of an amazing album, all these huge shows.
05:39What does 2026 have in store?
05:40Do you think new album time or hibernation or just playing until you die?
05:45Yeah, we'll be hibernating, doing new album stuff.
05:49We have our 10th, it'll be our 10th birthday in February.
05:52Wow.
05:53In 2026.
05:54I don't know.
05:55Do you want to do a birthday party?
05:56Yeah, I want a birthday party.
05:57Yeah.
05:58What does an animal birthday party look like?
06:00Cake.
06:01We love cake.
06:04And partying, a little bit, you know, a kick-ons, there'll be a kick-ons.
06:11Maybe a bit of drama.
06:13Someone will kiss someone they're not meant to.
06:15I don't know.
06:16Might kiss Bryce.
06:17We'll see.
06:20Kiss, go on.
06:21No, no.
06:22And finally, what's the first thing you're going to do after this interview?
06:27Go to another interview.
06:29Oh, and after that?
06:30After that?
06:31What do you want to do?
06:32I don't know.
06:33What do you want to do?
06:34Do you want to play?
06:35Yeah, we'll play a gig.
06:36Are you going to stick around and watch Travis Scott?
06:37Who was playing today?
06:38Trippie Redd.
06:39We saw Trippie Redd on Friday.
06:41He's rich.
06:42That's what I heard.
06:43Oh really?
06:44In his lyrics.
06:45Landon Zatanna, Trippie Redd.
06:46Yeah, yeah.
06:47And Travis Scott, I'm definitely watching tonight.
06:50We were on the bus when he played on Friday and the pyrotechnics was insane.
06:55Yeah.
06:56From the bus.
06:57So I want to watch it from the front of the house.
06:58I hear the pit gets pretty crazy as well.
07:00Really?
07:01There you go.
07:02Me?
07:03No, I haven't pitted in about seven years.
07:05Pit a bloody olive.
07:07You won't see me in a mosh pit.
07:10That's such a good night to win.
07:12Guys, thank you so much for your time.
07:13Thanks Andrew.
07:14Thanks guys.
07:15Pit a bloody olive.
07:16I'm keeping that.
07:17Big Soph.
07:18We are out here.
07:19We're you ready.
07:20Indeed.
07:21That's the opportunity.
07:22I find his little הא jealousy.
07:24Could you ask him maybe?
