00:07The Postal Service says suspension of deliveries started August 21
00:12ahead of Washington's 15% tariff on packages that takes effect on the 29th.
00:19It announced that only essential letters and documents,
00:23such as passports and legal papers, will continue to reach the United States.
00:27Postal carriers in India, Germany, France, Belgium, Austria and Denmark have also paused services.
00:35After the Trump administration confirmed, tax exemptions on small packages would end on August 29.
00:42The US first announced tariffs in April,
00:45but most measures are only coming into force this month after delays and negotiations.
00:51New Zealand Post said it was working quickly to adjust its services,
00:55and aim to restore deliveries as soon as possible.
